re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

I also reserved it but I find it silly that the reservation price is 499! Am I buying a BATA shoe? Most people won't take Ola seriously with such silly booking/reserving price!

I've reserved one too, and I think it's the brilliant move to have set the booking price at ₹499. Most people who are even remotely considering purchasing an electric scooter wouldn't think twice before putting down such a low amount upfront. Ola would have access to a lot of free capital, which could prove profitable for them even with a low conversion ratio.

Booked the scooter, it will replace our 18 year old Honda Activa which is running perfectly fine, but need a second scooter too, and with the current fuel costs electric is the way to go.

Image shows 122km range at 87% charge. Really good if it is real world. Also, the matte finish looks very premium!

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

I have also reserved one considering the minuscule booking amount (Is it refundable? )

Actually, I expect the below spec and pricing for a cheaper base model

-> 80 km range

-> Conventional small display (Not of a fan of big displays in a 2W)

-> Normal AC charging

->Fixed battery (Swappable system attracts higher cost)

-> Priced around ~80k

A premium model

-> 200 km range (as the rumors)

-> TFT display with all the buzz and connected stuffs

-> Quick Charging capability

-> Swappable Battery Pack

-> Priced around ~120k

Interestingly, if there is a leasing plan which avoids the direct cost of buying the battery pack (which caters to nearly 40% of the cost) will cut down the upfront cost.

A base model scooter at an upfront amount of ~50k and a monthly lease of 1k for 3 years will do the trick I guess.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

If anyone remembers how Tata Nano booking happened in 2009 for Rs.300, at Croma, Westside, Titan and Tata showrooms by filling application forms,
they made 6 crores in 2 days with 2 Lakh applications received. Many of those bookings never converted to actual bookings after the real launch,
and first 1Lakh customers were chosen through lottery system.

Many people didn't like the price which they hoped will be only around 1Lakh.
Since it is non-refundable, Tata was profitable with that small money acquired through application forms.

But here in this case it is fully refundable that is a good thing.

Yes sir, it's fully refundable.

Put down the booking amount. It's small enough that it was an easy decision. Smart of Ola to limit it to Rs. 500.

Hopefully, they come out with a well rounded product without any major disadvantages.

I have also reserved one, anyways will not be buying unless we start going to offices. I prefer a 100km /charge, max speed of 60kmph, price around 1lakh, matte silver, digital speedometer, no TFT displays.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

This is the second time I reserved an electric scooter, first time I did this sort of stuff was in Jan 2020 for the Ather 450X collectors edition. Cancelled it due to the atrocious pricing. I hope Ola gets the pricing right, r else the hype will die.

Also, Im interested in seeing how Ather will react to this. A substantial price cut maybe? Will that be possible?

Chetak and iQube are non existant just because of the laziness of their manufacturer. Chetak would have sold really well if they marketed it and priced it well. And, not to mention the limited availability of both the iQube and Chetak.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

In the beginning the otp wasn't working in the booking site. After that was solved, sending email is not working. But anyway, I've reserved one and have got the booking sms. If specs and prices are fall in my expectations, father's vespa will be replaced by this.

Ola with it's ridiculous reservation price will use the high number of bookings it'll receive to good marketing use. Specs and prices will show exactly how many of those will translate to actual sales.

Of the 3 colours, only black is looking nice to my eyes. The blue and pink look horrible IMHO! The front view looks really nice but the driver side view of the scooter looks really bad to be honest.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

I have a feeling that they will go for yhe kill. Remember they are OLA, and like other technology companies they will look to grab the market shares, reach no. 1 and for that even if they sell for loss it will not make a difference.

They will look for growth rather than profit and price it at par with 125cc scooters like Active, Burgman etc. So definitely below 75k is my bet.

Saw this line in TeamBhp news article
Quote:
The Ola e-scooter looks identical to the Etergo Appscooter.
Googled and found that it is indeed Etergo Appscooter. Ola has acquired this company. I thought it is home grown. Mods - delete this post if this information is already shared in previous threads. Btw reserved one by paying 499 just out of curiosity. Stopped using bikes in 2008 after a nasty fall but might pickup one for sister.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

INR 499 is sheer temptation isn't it. I don't really ride much and my 11 yr old scooter is doing just fine for the occasional joy ride in neighborhood. Still I am tempted to swap to this ola. Curious if this is compact like a scooty or regular activa/Jupiter sized.

However I hope ola doesn't get greedy looking at the booking numbers which might be pretty strong

I too made a booking last night. I need a replacement for my Y2k Splendor and plan to buy only EVs from now on. The booking amount is less than half the cost of a tankful of petrol for the bike! One can always cancel if the product is not up to mark. May be I will tell them to adjust it from the cost of an Ola ride!
