Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

Did anyone here take the plunge and bought the CB500X? Or is there any data on how many Honda has sold since launch?

Four units dispatched in the launch month of April. The detailed figures for May are not out just yet!

RedLiner is correct. As per my discussion with Bangalore Bigwing dealer (Indiranagar), CKD kits for the 500X are coming in from Thailand. As if prepared for the inevitable query/comment on the pricing, right off the bat he said - "Sir, do I need to explain why Honda's cost more? Please check out the reviews all over YouTube".

Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

Intresting thing to find out is how many units are Honda expecting to sell? Or they don't expect any and anything over and above zero is good for them. I am sure at 5 lakhs this bike would have had a user review or three by now.

Of all the Honda Big bikes this has to be the one with the most absurd pricing.

At this price the versys 650 for all practical purposes is a better bike. Anyone saying otherwise must have an Himalyan or Xpulse in their garage.

Well, they've sold 1 unit in May, so they are a happy lot

That takes the total to 20 (Mar.15 + Apr.4 + May.1)

Target achieved?

Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

Had been to the Big Wing showroom on 100 Feet Road here in Bangalore early this week and trust me, in the sea of gleaming CB350s, the CBX was quite literally lost. Hardly any enthusiasm there was for anyone to even glance at the machine once they heard the sticker price!!

Honda and its ping pong pricing strategy!!

Here is the review of Honda CB500X, which is made by a fellow Hyderabadi biker/vlogger named Srujan Bharadwaj, who is a friend of another Hyderabadi vlogger/biker, Sriman Kotaru!

I guess he echoes the sentiments of most Indian reviewers out there - the bike in itself is a gem but overpriced by 2 lac on road. If this was priced around 6.5 lac on-road Bangalore, Honda's booking list would be overflowing by now.

Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

I think the Consumers have spoken. These are the sales figure for Honda CB500X.

Mar 2021: 15
April 2021: 4
May 2021: 1

In general the sales of motorcycles had collapsed due to lockdown, but these are really pathetic numbers even accounting for that. We may see a bump in June and Jul and then closer to NIL figures wouldn't be an outrageous assumption.

Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

Visited the Honda showroom Mumbai yesterday for the CB500X.

The showroom is spacious and has good amount of bikes on display and in most of the colors.
The staff is courteous and open to any kind of questions.

90% of the enquires/bookings and conversions were for the Hness 350.

I did not take any pictures but the bikes on display apart from 7-8 hness were:
  • CB500x - Black and Red.
  • Africa Twin - Tricolor and Black
  • CBR650 - Red
  • CB650R - Red

Test Ride of the CB500x

Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh-cb.jpg

I was offered a test ride for the CB500X.
The bike starts with a deep raunchy exhaust note which settles down in some 40 odd seconds. Swing your leg over the bike and you are immediately at home. It’s a perfectly well balanced bike, so well balanced that it doesn't feel like a big/heavy bike. The bike is tall and I was securely tip-toeing with both legs touching the floor. With one on the bike and one on the ground, I was flat footed. I stand at 5'7".

I started my ride with a small round around the block. Power was adequate and was available thru the rev range. There was power on every additional twist of the throttle. No idea where it would stop. Brakes have a satisfactory bite and the bike feels in control. Suspension is on the softer side (I prefer it that way) and gave a plush ride thru bumps and potholes. Standing and riding was breeze for me, taller rides might need to stoop a bit.
Handle bar is wide enough for comfort and short enough to make it easily filter out thru the traffic. Coming to filtering thru the traffic - the bike is as nimble as a Honda unicorn. To give you a clarity, I was riding an powerful Sports Tourer for the first time in my life and I could take it thru the gaps between the cars without worrying. Neither did the bike jump or loose balance. While on the go, the power on tap is enough to make a quick overtake without climbing down the gear. Combined with the nimbleness its even easier than it looks. For the next ride I took it on the Highway. I want a sport tourer and I clearly wanted to monitor the power and stability.

Being a rainy day with slippery roads, I could still managed to touch the starting triple digit speed and the bike still felt at home. Was stable enough with more power for additional speed.
However I felt buzzing vibrations on the handle bar around the speed of hundred to one ten. Really wanted to explore further, but it didn't feel appropriate on the city road.
Another of the best parts of the CB500x is the heat management. I drove at high speed then immediately into bumper to bumper traffic for next 10 minutes. The heat was equivalent to a CBR250. I had to put my hands near the engine to check if it was actually heated.
One more point is that I did not struggle to find the neutral at any given point thru out my ride, not even once. A correct neutral every time!

Overall
Positives
+ Very well balanced and nimble
+ Power available thru out the rev range.
+ Heat management is fantastic
+ Good quality materials used, no hard edges
+ Comfortable seat and any rider can find a comfortable position.
+ Smooth ride over bad roads.
+ Honda's trust and reliability

Negatives
- The elephant in the house = Cost (8.15L OnRoad Mumbai)
- Vibration at highway speeds (a proper highway ride would clarify)

I am in the market for a Sports Tourer(new or carefully used) and I was not fully convinced if I would like to put down 8 big ones on this bike. It probably might be worth in the long run, but its too much for the initial investment.
Next would be to have a ride on the Versys 650, Benelli TRK 500 and the KTM 390 adv.

That's a heinous figure. No wonder, I haven't seen any on the roads of Pune despite nearing half-a-year after it was launched. Did they allude to any oncoming festive discounts in Ganpati or Dussehra?

I'm quite surprised the bike has vibrations. All reviews had pointed to a smooth vibe-free engine

Re: Honda CB500X launched at Rs. 6.87 lakh

I really love Honda motorcycles and for exactly that reason I dearly hope that the really badly overpriced products from their stable bomb spectacularly. I’d like their product portfolio to have some semblance of sensible pricing (some premium being acceptable). Current pricing on some of their models is simply way too discouraging. Hopefully a couple of outright failures might cause them to introspect and course correct.
