Neo-retro styled Yamaha XSR125 unveiled

Yamaha has taken the wraps off the XSR125. It is an entry-level motorcycle that will be positioned under the XSR155 in international markets.

The XSR125 shares its underpinnings with the YZF-R125 and MT-125. The bike features a neo-retro look with a circular LED headlamp, a digital instrument cluster and a flat seat. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with a 110/70 section tyre at the front and a 140/70 section tyre at the rear.

The XSR125 is powered by a 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers 15 BHP @ 10,000 rpm and 11.5 Nm @ 8,000 rpm. The company claims that the variable valve actuation improves the engine's top and low-end grunt.

The bike is equipped with upside-down forks at the front and has a mono-shock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 292 mm disc up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. It comes with ABS as standard.

Re: Neo-retro styled Yamaha XSR125 unveiled

Whether it is retro or modern bike, whether it is 125 cc or litre class super bike, irrespective of manufacturers, Two common assumptions that designers make while designing any new bike is,

1. Pillion does not belong to Homo sapiens family(human beings). They belong to phylom Platyhelminthes (flat worm etc ) whose width would be greater than front to back(dorso-ventral) thickness. So, the space required to accommodate dorsal to ventral portion would be designed only to accommodate Platyhelminthes.

2. Second assumption is Earth is flat. As flat as show room mosaic tiles. There are no ups and downs on surface of earth. So, the ground clearance is designed in such a way that even if a small flat worm sits on the pillion(from point 1 above), the bike would hit the Earth beneath.

I am really feeling sad to see that even this bike (However good looking it is,) has same Platyhelmenthes design for pillion seat. Am sure even ground clearance will be in the order of 130mm.

But, being yamaha, do not have even iota of doubt on its engineering or quality.

My only wish (and request to all manufacturers) is
1. GC to be more than or equal to 160mm
2. Pillion seat to extendat least 3-4 inches more to accommodate homo sapiens and not just Platyhelminthes

How come it has a thinner tyre at the rear compared to the front one?
I suppose it's a typo so can we get the correct specs?

Re: Neo-retro styled Yamaha XSR125 unveiled

I really feel bikes these days come with painful pillion seats. Just look at this bike's seat. There is no way a moderately healthy guy can plant himself on the pillion seat. Unlike what Yamaha designers think, not every buyer has a 45kg super slim girl friend. Even if they did, they don't remain the same after a year or two. Hopefully they don't launch a version 2.0 with the pillion asked to sit close to rider's shoulder.

This looks like a fun to have zippy motorcycle within the city premises. Makes it easier to commute, park and maintain. However like most have said, a pillion rider is not welcome here. Moreover this could aimed at a younger demographic who can afford this bike over the larger XSR series.
