Simple Energy Defers E-Scooter Deliveries Amid Rise In EVs Fire Incidents

Source : NDTV

Quote:
EV maker Simple Energy has deferred the deliveries of its maiden electric scooter 'Simple One' to September, citing possible policy changes by the government in the wake of the recent incidents of fire in electric vehicles.

The Bengaluru-based company, which launched the e-scooter on October 15 last year, has taken a "conscious" call to postpone the vehicle deliveries to the first week of September from June, Simple Energy founder-CEO Suhas Rajkumar told PTI.

He said the EV industry might see some changes in the policy primarily related to battery packs and testing standards in the next one or two months, necessitating it to reschedule deliveries.

Good Excuse to delay the launch when you don't have a proper bike.

Update on the deliveries

In light of recent events in the EV industry, we expect updated guidelines for EVs concerning battery health and overall vehicle safety. In accordance with this, we are postponing the deliveries of Simple ONE.

Excuse is the right word!

But then desperate times call for desperate measures. So they are postponing test-rides & deliveries to comply with policy changes which may happen.

What next, we postpone the launch till 2024 as the expected policy change did not happen this year?

Re: Dubious claims of the Simple Energy One electric scooter | Might be based on an Ather (page 3)

Was watching some reviews of the Simple One on YouTube. Honestly, looks really nice in Red colour but just can't ignore the fact that it is a ripoff of Ather

This particular review caught my attention...

02:27 to 02:45 of the video says that customers will get wider tyres later after a Software update!!

After 03:43 of the video, when the mode changes from Ride to Dash, the Battery percentage drops from 100% to 89%

Simple still a long way to go...

I guess he meant that "a software update is required to allow the bike to be at optimal performance for the wider tyres that are planned".

Re: Dubious claims of the Simple Energy One electric scooter | Might be based on an Ather (page 3)

The first Simple One ride reviews are out. All have positive things to say.

Hopefully the final production vehicle comes out with all the small things ironed that these reviewers have poined out. The removable battery willbe a game changer and a deal breaker for many people. Charge the main battery with 180kms range whenever they need and wherever possible; otherwise stay on the portable pack which itself has 60kms range which in itself is practically enough within city limits.

Like everyone has told...it looks promising, but once the production, pricing, sales, service and the many other unknowns are made known...we will know if the One is "The One"

Re: Dubious claims of the Simple Energy One electric scooter | Might be based on an Ather (page 3)

Are they buying the frame and other components from Ather with just the software and plastics being changed, like a bolt on kit with probably a slightly different motor winding.
The amount of similarities is just mind boggling. This is not ather inspired more like a copy.

We had a Coimbatore EV manufacturer buying Tata Nano body, so with Ather under utilizied production capacity they may have a deal with simple energy. Other wise if its such a blatant copy simple energy can be sued.

Rimac also produces electric cars for other manufacturers.

Think the Autocar review mentioned that the portable pack will take in charge only once the main battery pack was fully charged.

Could be wrong though...saw only one review (lost interest when the reviewer mentioned that the units were still kind of like prototypes) and even then didn't really pay that much attention to it.

I think they've somehow got the information of all/most of the Suppliers of Ather and then taken parts from them and built prototypes.

On a lighter note, I found this in one of the meme pages on Instagram...

If the secondary battery is left in the scooter itself, this is correct and makes sense too. But if you want to take the secondary battery home and charge, then you've to purchase a separate charger for it it seems.

Simple Energy e-scooter deliveries postponed to Q1 2023

Simply Energy has announced that deliveries of the One e-scooter have been delayed. Deliveries are now expected to commence in the first quarter of next year.

The Simple Energy One was launched on August 15, 2021. The company had initially planned to deliver the first units in December 2021, but later pushed it back to June 2022 and then September 2022.

According to the company, the reason for the delay is the new battery safety guidelines issued by the government.

The Simple Energy One is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom). It uses an electric motor with an output of 11.39 BHP and 72 Nm, which is powered by a 4.8 kWh removable battery pack. The company claims a maximum range of over 236 km on a single charge.

Re: Dubious claims of the Simple Energy One electric scooter | Might be based on an Ather (page 3)

I wonder if this scooter will ever take off the ground!
These perennial delays do not help the image of a fledgling automotive brand.
It seems they are simply not yet ready with a finished product.

Even though the reviews had been kind enough to not press too hard on the rough edges of the product (including non-functional features on the digital dash) the general buying public will not be so forgiving.

I just hope this product/company doesnt fade away into oblivion.
