BMW seem to be getting the C400GT scooter. Though it's called 400, this is a 350 cc single cylinder. I won't be surprised if it goes past the 8 lac OTR mark.
There are 24 units assigned to India and bookings are open with them. This may become a collectible and after 4-5 years can come in a reasonable range then.
The Motorrad color scheme is lovely on this.
It's high time manufacturers introduce maxi scooters in India. With some smart pricing and marketing I feel there may be good volumes that can be sold.

Impressive although at an expected price of over 6 lakh it will mostly remain a halo product / collectors item.

I feel the true luxury market would get tested if we can have some genuine maxi scooters with some actual grunt (IMO even the Aprilia SXR 160 is not fully there). Say a 250 cc type offering that can retail at under 2 lakh on road.

Until we get that, I think if Suzuki and Honda could launch the Burgman / Forza in the higher CC offerings within the 3 lakh mark then that’s a great start too. I do believe that’s a price point where there will be some takers for a maxi scooters.

Look forward to seeing the Beemer in the flesh once they launch it.

I believe Maxi Scooters (400cc and above) in India are just going to be a fashion statement, irrespective of BMW, Suzuki, Honda or Yamaha. Firstly small engine scooters in the 100-150cc are convenient commuters, so a 400 or 650 ‘scooter’ is not exactly a convenient/economical commuter. Secondly prices are going to probably be in the 4-9 lac range which is not what most people are going to be paying for a scooter at least as of now(remember when the BMW Funduro 650 was priced at 5 lacs back in early 90s it wasn’t well received then). Lastly, the biggest practical issue on Indian roads for maxi scooters is their long wheelbase and relatively lower ground clearance which means you will be scraping the belly on most speed humps and potholes.

Overdrive mentions the expected price to be around the 8-10 lakh ex-showroom mark. That's really rich even by niche maxi scooter standards (although I think the select Forza pieces also retailed out for about 7-8L IIRC.

I’m just wondering who is it that would buy a maxi scooter at that price point, even as a show product. I also read on Rohit Paradkar’s YouTube channel that Suzuki may bring the bigger Burgman sometime soon. Not sure if he meant the 200 or 400 but lets see what realistic price point they can land that in India.

With the Honda Forza units which retailed at around the 3.75L mark and the company expecting it to be launched at the 3L mark soon, this if at all it gets launched at 8L would really be a niche product with a purpose of just making a statement.

Maxi scooters with 350cc engines should ideally be priced at around 3L which is a sufficiently premium price for a 350cc machine.

This would be a disappointment at 8 to 10L expected price.

The C400 retails at around $9000 in the US. I would be utterly surprised if they launch it anywhere less than Rs. 10,00,000/- ex-showroom in India after duties and taxes incurred.

And as per information passed in the social media, the first lot has been completely sold out Without even a formal announcement of launch or the prices, such info is passed to create hype and nothing else. Maybe a collectable as we won't see the second lot for sure.

Its probably just me, but scooters are extremely useful for daily commutes and with a new class of rich real estate or similar class of population, this will be a statement that's usable and hard to ignore. I see a lot of businessmen in my area (outskirts of Bangalore) pick up the Innova or even two or three of them just because its a statement. These vehicles see less usage but folks would not want to own a 'lower' vehicle. For these people the BMW maxi scooters may work, if its comfortable enough and projected as a prestige symbol ! I am sure if it was Toyota branding, it would sell even more

Here’s a quick acceleration and top speed video of it for perspective. 0-100kmph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 150kmph! Not bad for a scooter, makes this as fast as my 320d . Coupled with a fuel capacity of 13L, it makes it a potent highway cruiser IMO.

I have been considering a bike purchase for some time now but the idea of decently powerful maxi-scooter appeals to me even more because of the practicality it offers. You can use it for commuting, touring or a leisurely weekend ride. The auto-transmission ensures I can wear my formal leather shows to office without the worry of bike gear lever scratches. No need to install a luggage system if I want to carry smaller amount of luggage, say for a weekend getaway. Plus good weather protection out of the box, including those rides through water puddles in the monsoon.

The only hitch is if these will be exciting enough, that a test ride will tell. But eagerly waiting for C400 as well as Forza 350 launch considering the pricing is decent of course.

I think it was closer 11 / 12 seconds from 0 - 100. From 0:30 second mark to 0:40/41 mark.
