Re: June 2021: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Really nice to see RR310 is fetching some numbers for TVS. But what happened to the 2021 facelift that was supposed to be launched in April? Has it been postponed to next year?

Nothing is really selling in Yamaha except for their expensive 150’s. Despite of this, Yamaha feels the market is not ready for their performance offerings. I dont know what sense is prevailing in their brains.

The 650 twins will not do justice to the chart here. Now the sales are very low for the 650 twins < 1000, earlier they did 4 digits consistently. The other Superbikes will be squeezed in the chart! Suggest to leave it out from this chart

Great effort for the charts, thanks.

Suzuki said the first 101 units of Hayabusa were sold out, but only 46 have been delivered till now (11 in May) and (35 in June)??

Re: June 2021: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

From the mainstream manufacturers, TVS portfolio looks quite balanced. Numbers are coming from scooters, bikes and mopeds.
Unlike Honda and Suzuki, Access and Activa(Dio) are the only dominant players for their parents.

For Yamaha, only iterations of R15 and FZ is working.

For Bajaj, Pulsar brand still woos the buyer. Same goes for Hero and Splendour.

Re: June 2021: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Ideas on why and how Splendor is such a dominant beast in the Indian 2 wheeler market?

It is not that what it does, competition from Bajaj or TVS can't do - low cost service, vfm, high mileage, low purchase cost etc.

But it must be doing something right to have this stranglehold on the market and for close to 3 decades now?

What is its USP?

Re: June 2021: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for creating this month's thread a4anurag!

The one thing that stands out is that Bajaj has finally dethroned TVS! If we look back at the last 12 months data, there have been several months where TVS has outperformed Bajaj by more than 50K units. Im sure the boffins at Bajaj are pleased by their third place performance. Lets see if this is a one off or if they can sustain and build on this momentum.

A few thoughts on some of the data
Bajaj
  • Dispatches of the CT100, Pulsar 125 and Pulsar 150 have propelled them into third place. So much for our forum arm chair analysis of the Pulsar brand getting diluted and the brand name withering away.
  • The Huskies continue to be a flop. Will the 390s fare better? Its tough to say.
  • The Dominar 250 was supposed to resurrect the stagnant Dominar brand. But it has out dispatched its big brother in only 3 out of the past 11 months. The smaller engine for bigger sales mantra hasnt worked here, as it did for the Pulsar. No wonder they were forced to introduce the price cut last month.
  • The big question is whether the Pulsar 250 can bring a new set of buyers into the Bajaj fold? Or will Pulsar 125 rule the roost?

Hero
  • The more things change, the more they stay the same. It still is the Splendor show. The Splendor had the third highest dispatches of the last 11 months.
  • The 200 platform just isnt clicking for Hero. I hope this doesnt cause them to ditch their plans for a bigger engine.

Honda
  • Relatively tame month for the Japanese giant.
  • A cumulative 68 dispatches for the 650 twins is not bad at all. Honda knows the pulse of their customers in this market.
  • A cumulative 37 dispatches for the overpriced and under appreciated CB500X is very impressive indeed. Not so dead on arrival after all.

Kawasaki
  • Excellent numbers for the Ninja 300. The company is catching up on the pent up demand for the bike after having delayed its launch for so long.
  • Strong numbers for the Z900 as always.
  • The dispatches for the 650 bikes is disappointing. Maybe its because of the increased BS6 pricing? Suddenly they dont feel all that VFM.

KTM
  • Not that strong a recovery, as compared to its performance over the last year.
  • The Duke 125 seems to be losing some momentum.

Royal Enfield
  • Surprisingly poor performance from the company.
  • What could have caused the numbers for the Classic 350 to drop this much? Production constraints? Or the switchover the the J series engine?
  • The Meteor is holding strong. Im glad to see this do well for RE. The reception from the international media has been positive. It will do well in foreign markets, along with the Himalayan and 650 twins.

Suzuki
  • Nice to see some VStroms getting delivered.
  • Only 44 units of the Hayabusa seems surprising.
  • Youtube probably has a 100 Indian videos around the 44 new Hayabusas and a grand total of 0 for the new V Stroms.

Triumph
  • After perennially low sales, its good to see Triumph cross the century mark for 3 months in a row.
  • I assumed that the Trident would steal all the thunder from the Street Twin, after replacing it as the entry level Triumph. But its good to note that the two are coexisting well. Im sure dealers will be happy.
TVS
  • Badly hit by the low dispatches of the Jupiter and XL Super.
  • The Jupiter seems to be faring poorly over the last 3 months. The Apache series is fingertips away from displacing it as the second best performing lineup.

Yamaha
  • Difficult to break down their numbers because their scooter to motorcycle mix keeps fluctuating wildly.

Re: June 2021: Two Wheeler Sales Figures & Analysis

I wonder how Triumph delivered 10 Tridents in March and 50 in April ! The bike itself was launched in April, and to my knowledge, no one got deliveries in April (when the 2nd wave was raging btw), much less in March when the bike itself wasnt launched!!!

I get a feeling the 10 bikes were the media ride bikes and 50 were mostly stuff billed to dealers or something like that?
