Yezdi ADV motorcycle spotted testing, to rival RE Himalayan

A Yezdi ADV motorcycle has been spotted testing. Based on the information available, the prototype has been spied on the old Mumbai-Pune highway.

As per the spy shot, the Yezdi ADV would have a circular headlamp (most likely an LED unit), a tall windscreen, wire-spoke wheels and front fork gaiters. The motorcycle could also come equipped with a beak-style front fender, a single-piece tube-type handlebar for an upright riding stance, split seats, some sort of luggage racks near the fuel tank, and pannier mounts at the rear.

It seems that the Yezdi ADV would be using a larger front and smaller rear wheel. They are likely to be fitted with dual-purpose tyres. For the suspension, the motorcycle would have telescopic forks at the front and a rear mono-shock. The anchoring duties would be handled by disc brakes at both ends aided by ABS.

As for the engine, the Yezdi ADV is expected to use the 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor that powers the Jawa Perak. It is capable of delivering 30.22 BHP and 32.74 Nm. For the transmission, there would be a 6-speed gearbox.

When launched, the Yezdi ADV would have the Royal Enfield Himalayan as its primary rival.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Seeing the Yezdi Adv, you can't help but think of the Himalayan and the similarities. Though the pillion seat seems smaller and inclined, it may not score as high as the Himalayan pillion seat.

The performance numbers on paper seem better than that of the Himalayan. The price I feel would be competitive or litter lesser than the RE counterpart.

The biggest limitation of Jawa is Jawa.

This is a chance for Mahindra to get it right and not bungle it up like the Jawa launch. They already have a competent engine & drivetrain. If the get the riding geometry right, keep it light and and take care of the QC - something that RE hasn't been able to in case of the Himalayan, they would do well for themselves.

What would make this deal sweeter is inclusion of tubeless spoked tyres. Though, considering what price point it will retail at, that's rather unlikely.

Cheers !

At least give tubeless tyres and rims as an option, why can’t RE just do that?
