That's certainly weird. Thanks for pointing it out.

I could have appreciate an upright position like the Bullet if not the full laidback cruiser style, but this looks weirdly 'sporty'.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

Just when we got tired of discussing the 650 variants that we all wanted (scrambler, Himalayan, Meteor), spy pics of this new Royal Enfield model come out. Like shortbread, I am hoping for it to be a bigger engine. Even if it isnt, I wont complain, this one looks exciting.
- The size is quite something! The dimensions are likely to be that of a bike that costs double of what RE will price this at.
- Those seats look massive! I think this could be the bike you need to tour across the country with your pillion in comfort.
- From what I can guesstimate of the footpeg positioning, the pillion will be seated very comfortably, unlike the Interceptor and GT650 which had awkward footpeg positioning for several pillion riders.
- Large windscreen and upright seating position for the rider should make this well suited for all day riding.
- Chunky wheels and tires combination. Could they be 17 inchers?
- Rear disc looks to be pretty large as well.

I was discussing the non traditional styling elements on the bike with deepfreak15 and he said that it looked like a bruiser. I have to agree with him, if RE does depart from from dipping into its old model names for its new launches, I think the Bruiser 650 name is quite appropriate for a bike like this.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

Its a roadster from ride point of view with retro looks ! Because RE can only make bikes that way ?
I think it will work if the engine refinement is good. But it should that way too.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

Look closely, and you would realize that there are two different motorcycles that have been spied until now. Just like the CGT 650 & Interceptor 650, this upcoming new bike seems to have at least two variants.

Few distinguishing points -

The alloys are different and seem smaller in the latest spy pics, the tyres also seem much more chunky.

The USD forks too seem to be of a bigger diameter - or maybe its the photo angle?

The head lamp brackets are definitely a give away.

The fuel tank on the earlier test mule is classic tear-drop shaped, new one has an edgy Harley-esque peanut tank.

The engine cases too are bulbous on the older mule - much like the 650 twins on sale, new one seems to have edgy cuts here too.

The foot peg position is cruiser style in the old mule, and street style in the new one.

The seats are also sharp and end with an upward kink, which was not there on the older mules.

So, I am quite sure that RE has another twins on the way - one for classic cruiser lovers, and another to keep the street-bike(and high volume) positioning that many RE owners seem to prefer.

An 800 maybe!
I doubt! I'd attribute the performance also to the factory riders' capability. Am sure they very well know how to extract the best from all these machines. If the RE Classic / TB X has the 350cc engines, I'd be surprised with the performance they had. It was a charm to see the Classic RE rider go through the traffic with minimal braking.

I think its too early (& unnecessary) for RE to build an 800cc engine when there is enough and more scope with the 650 itself. As for the "presence", it definitely had the oomph of a Harley Davidson.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

List of possible features for the upcoming RE 650 cruiser (KX650) from all the available spy pictures

Quote:

1. RE Meteor 350-inspired design:

The styling of the upcoming Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser has a lot of similarities with the recently-launched Meteor 350. The round halogen headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, scooped rider’s seat, and the round taillamp, are all reminiscent of the Meteor.

2. Low-slung body:

The KX650 features a few differences compared to the Meteor, like shorter front forks (upside-down) and an overall low-slung body stance. The engine is the same oil-cooled, parallel-twin unit as the Interceptor 650/Continental GT 650. The KX650 looks like a proper cruiser motorcycle, whereas the Meteor 350 is a cross between a cruiser and a streetbike.

3. Tripper navigation:

The right instrument pod seems to be different (and slightly smaller) than the left one, which leads us to believe that the upcoming 650cc RE cruiser will have a similar setup for the instrument cluster as the Meteor. The left pod would consist of an analogue speedometer, along with an LCD readout for fuel gauge, tripmeter, etc, and the right pod will have a TFT screen with tripper navigation.

4. Touring-specific equipment:

The latest spy pictures show us a lot of new features on the motorcycle, like a tall windscreen, wraparound engine guard, along with what seem to be mounting points for saddle stays and/or pillion grabrails. The bike will also get tubeless tyres, shod onto beautiful-looking alloy wheels.

5. Possibility of multiple variants:

Also, in the latest spy shots, the seat is different from the older test models (not sloping towards the rear), and the footpegs aren’t as forward set. This results in a rather upright seating position, and not a laid back one. We believe that this prototype is a different variant of the KX650. As the Meteor 350 is also available in three variants, this possibility is quite likely, although it is just speculation at this point.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

Royal Enfield Classic 650cc Twin with new gen Classic 350. Footpegs positioning on both motorcycles is similar. Pillion seat is larger as compared to the 650cc cruiser. May be Royal Enfield 650 Roadster in development

From an Indian perspective I agree, the current power plants serve the domestic market needs. Yet, considering how REs global business is growing there is a need for more variants. What RE needs in my opinion are:

- 1 cyl, 500cc, 6 speed, approx 30hp
The Himalyan desperately needs this. The offroader has a lot of appeal globally. An affordable bike that can be used without the worry of expensive damage. But the moment it sees open roads the Himalyan struggles to keep up with regular traffic. A 50%power hiike with an extra cog will resolve this.

Also the new 350 range makes a brilliant city bike, but I am sure International buyers who also plan to ride the bike on highways would find the current specs inadequate and would upgrade to the 500.

-2 cyl, 800cc,6 speed, approx 60hp

A long distance cruiser will need this sort of grunt. These bikes always need that 20% power in reserve when riding on open roads.

I am sure RE knows this much better than any of us. They take a lot of feedback from their dealers and have invested a lot in their global operations.

Thus I have a feeling there's more they have up their sleeve.

Re: Royal Enfield 650cc Cruiser concept spied

RE has more tricks up their sleeve!

I am happy. I was lamenting that none of their 650 twins has usable ergonomics, and mentally preparing myself to deal with this motorcycling abomination called "forward controls". At least the pillion would still be usable, I figured. Or, settle for a single-cylinder.

I hope they launch these bikes soon!

It is weird that there are almost no aftermarket forward controls available for Interceptor even though they have such bad footrest placement. The few storesrols are in no stock for a long time. Good to see RE is considering forward controls as there are many riders doing long rides often.
