re: Bajaj Pulsar 250, launched at 1.38 lakh

Gotta say, the Pulsar brand has grown on me despite trying very hard to dislike it.

I'm waiting for a reliable 300cc that I can use as a city bike and for highway rides. Currently a Pulsar 180 does the commute role and a RE Thunderbird for long rides. Both are over 12 years old though and am looking for a modern bike, but one that can replace both.

Reliable means any Enfield is automatically out (had more than enough of their pathetic service centers and hallowed 'brotherhood of riders' nonsense!) Needs to be low maintenance and I can't afford the likes of the BMW 310. Don't want anything with a fairing or a half-fairing. What would be ideal is a 250/300cc Hero Impulse/Xpulse or a naked version of the TVS Apache 310. But looks like the Pulsar will get there first.

Bajaj has never occupied the 'premium' or 'exciting' mindspace for me. But 10 years with the 180 have been trouble-free and despite trying hard to think beyond Bajaj, it looks like they are the only ones coming up with a naked, affordable, easily maintained 300cc+. Somehow the Dominar 400 never seemed to click, I wonder why? On paper it seems a great value for money bike. Any thoughts? Personally I find the Pulsar NS design much more appealing than the Dominar. Perhaps most people think so too?

Anyway, looking forward to the NS250 and hoping in true Bajaj fashion a +50cc "upgrade" will come soon Time to sell/give-away the P180 and the TB then.

PS: Also, the wife won't let me buy a new bike unless I get rid of the ones already taking up space at home!

But the engine might be KTM derived? Honestly speaking not a fan of KTM engines after riding the rabid Racoon 2021 Adv 390. Power is intimidating. But the lower range vibes put me off instantly. The erstwhile DTSi engines are far better in terms of refinement compared to the KTMs. I really hope the engine is also an indigenous one (atleast hoping)

Looks like a launch similar to the P220 Carb version back in 2009 which was powerful yet significantly cheaper!

My guess is this will be competing with Yamaha FZ25 as far as pricing is concerned.

I can see the following :
- Dominar's twin barrel exhaust
- Dominar's brakes
- Dominar inspired instrument cluster
- 220F+NS+Dominar design cues, the front merges them well IMO
- NS200 alloys
- clip ons, look good
- right side up front forks
- MRF Zappers ?
- no center stand ?
- cooling fins so oil cooled?

I was inclined to say a cheaper version with Dominar 250 underpinnings but the cooling fins run counter to that guess. Although it makes sense considering the target audience and this hints at an aggressive pricing by Bajaj.

Regardless, the bike looks good, will wait for the launch.
Eager to see what/how's the engine

I think they'll out price/match the RTR 200(~1.3lakhs ex showroom), but just a guess, let's see and hopefully soon.

Front looks too busy IMHO, silhouette is more akin to the current 220F.

Pulsar 220F current ex-showroom price is 1.34L. If bajaj can price aggressively similar to RC200/RC125 (no price increase despite added features), the 250 naked could be priced at 1.34L but bajaj might not be willing to kill the sales of 220F if they are planning to continue with 220F. So it could be few thousands more.

The 250F might undercut fzs25 which is at 1.42L ex-showroom price. So the the price range could be anything between 1.34L to 1.42L for naked and F version.

Yes, I expect dual channel ABS only on F version for some reason similar to ns200 vs RS200.

Given this the ns200 might find the numbers slightly coming down and the RS200 will need an update for its fairing and features to continue garnering numbers.

I know, I am thinking too much

Good to see the 1st generation pulsar too featuring in the teaser.

By the way this is my pulsar. Been 18 years and still my daily ride. Converted to DC and all LED setup. It proves that age is just a number and still rides like one.

Yes! I was hoping to see the AS200 as the evolution after last 220 in the ad, but looks like they did not want to feature the AS200 as it was killed shortly after launch.

I hate their positioning though. We will now have a Pulsar 250 and a Dominar 250

re: Bajaj Pulsar 250, launched at 1.38 lakh

They're twins 250 and 250F so the pricing of the 250 should be taking on the RTR200 while he 250F would be bit more expensive.

Correcting my previous assumption that the brakes are from Dominar(Bybre), they are Grimeca.
A lot of new stuff under the hood, waiting for the launch to see how it all adds up.

Why is that a bad thing? People will have two options now. It will be interesting to see how they are going to price it. Im guessing it will be below the dominar 250

re: Bajaj Pulsar 250, launched at 1.38 lakh

This will be positioned either below the Dominar or on par. The performance numbers will be comparable as the Dominar 250 is overweight.

Although there is a good chance that the pricing will dictate which product of Bajaj the Pulsar 250 cannibalize first.

The Dominar 250 may be discontinued as well to avoid overlap.

The teaser doesn't show any USD forks, it shows fins surrounding the engine and so it could be to air-oil cooled and not liquid cooled. Likewise there could be other subtle things like the tyre profile, etc. Hence the price range should be in range of ns200 and not with Dominar 250 is my assumption. Also if bajaj is going to provide 5 speed gearbox and not sure whether there will be slip-assist clutch almost the same as in the one in current 220F vis-a-vis Fz25, those will be the area of cost reduction.
