Was surprised to see Bounce Infinity battery swap point at the tyre shop near my house today. They had 2 batteries on stand by charging as well. The store incharge was not having the needed information (her boss was not in when I went), but it was nice to see infra being readied even before rolling out their EVs.

Edit: could not confirm if those batteries were for bounce specifically, but i don't think there are other scooters which take such swappable batteries. The person there was not knowledgeable about these stuff to answer me unfortunately.

Why Bounce is not shipping additional battery along with this scooter?

FAME 2 subsidy is 15,000Rs Per KWHr battery with following rules.
Range must be greater than 80KMs and Speed must be greater than 40, Total price must not exceed 1.5lakh Rs. The website clearly lists following in red letters

W.e.from 11th June, 21 incentive for electric two wheelers is increased to Rs 15000/KWh from Rs 10,000/KWh with a cap of 40% cost of vehicles

If Bounce ships another battery along with scooter, is not that we should get another 30,000 benefit..

What am I missing here.

Received an update on WhatsApp that the Test Rides are to open in January for Infinity E1.

Even I just received now. However I am bit disappointed with bounce. No one picks up phone and did not get a chance to talk to. I had lot of questions, at least they should have some sort of communication channel.

Some update. But not good.

Yesterday, I got call from Bounce. Test drives postponed due to covid. Fine. No Issues.

The disturbing part is regarding second battery.

Bounce infinity has one battery. 2KWhr. This is not sufficient for me or anyone living in metro cities. So,I was hoping for Bounce to offer extra battery.

Now comes the government subsidy. According to FAME 2, 15,000 per KWhr subsidy is available from government and it works out to be 60,000 Max or Max 4KWhr battery.

At Bangalore,
Bounce without battery, Barebone scooter, Price: 45,000 with battery swap plan.
Bounce with 2KWhr Battery (with subsidy) = 69,000
Bounce with 4KWhr Battery (2KWhr+2KWhr) = ?? I was expecting this price to be less than 90,000, as 30,000 subsidy (15,000Rs X 2Kwhr) is present. I was expecting it to be around 80K Plus.

When I spoke to representative, looks like this is NOT the case. Bounce has no intention of selling their scooter with 2+2 =4 KWhr battery, both swappable. They are more so into battery swap station. I think their intention is more on making money on swap stations than selling scooters, like Sony or Xbox, making money on selling games than selling play station.

The representative from Bounce tells me:

1. Govt of India is giving subsidy on one scooter per one person (Adhar, Pan card etc).
2. If I have bought OLA scooter, I am not eligible for Bounce scooter. Fair enough, logical, Accepted.
3. Here comes the point. If Bounce scooter with one battery is purchased, then subsidy FAME 2 is consumed on this purchase of Bounce Scooter with 2KWhr battery. THEREFORE THERE WILL BE NO SUBSEQUENT SUBSIDY ON ADDITIONAL BATTERY PUCHASED AGAIN FROM BOUNCE.

Item 3 is a disappointment for me.
If another 2KWhr battery as sold along with the scooter, then there as a chance for 30,000 discount from FAME 2 (Financial aspect).

I was counting on two batteries. One keep at home charging, while another one in Battery. No matter what happens, I would have one battery at home ready for emergency. (Usage aspect).

This is a bummer. If anyone was planning like me, please talk to bounce, think twice.

If the things Bounce representative told is true, then this is sorry deal. 30,000 Rs subsidy could have been exercised per Adhar or Pan which has been left on the table. Not a good deal.

Now, I am back to OLA.

Received a call from Bounce. Test drives are going to happen next two weeks or so in Bangalore. Again, I informed salesperson that two battery pricing is not available with Bounce and people like me may not be interested in buying Bounce scooter if another Rs 30,000 worth subsidy is going to go waste.

He patiently wrote down my concern. Not sure if someone else is going to call. I have already emailed, spoke three times about the bounce second battery option.

Also, detailed technical specs are missing from website, including OLA. They should put detailed owner's manuals online.

Sometimes, I think, these companies are taking us for a ride. Battery chemistry, electronics, electricals, detailed mechanical specification etc all must be on the website. After all, we are buying these scooters!

This new or relaunched electric scooter surely brings in some interesting features and offerings such as -

1. Battery as a subscription
2. Reverse mode and cruise control
3. With a motor of 1500 W and top speed of 65 Kmph
4. Real world mileage should be around 60 (rated at 85 kms per charge)

The latest Autocar youtube review compares the ownership cost of the subscription vs owned battery

a. Wondering if this power/ top speed is good enough in real world regular usage
b. Which would be the ideal choice for battery acquisition?

Also heard in one of the reviews that they would be upgrading the battery capacity in the near future.

Took test drive yesterday at JP Nagar, Ambient hotel. Overall feedback. NOT GOOD.

1. Cheap plastics! Very cheap plastics. And all plastics. Just pull the seat up and you will feel that quality of plastics. Very light and even the hinges which holds plastic base of the seat feels shaky. If you are used to Activa, then you will not like this vehicle at all. Expect rattling sound after rough use.

2. Switches, handle, all look very substandard make.

3. Pick up looks good. I could not get a chance to test this vehicle on steep inclines we see in Bangalore. I tested a HERO Nyx electric scooter, near Chandra layout incline. The back seat rider had to get down and walk as the vehicle will not pull up when TWO people were riding the vehicle. That is the problem with hub mounted scooters with low power motor. Bounce infinity must be OK as the pick up looked good.

4. Even keys look substandard, I mean, If you are used to Activa.

5. Biggest reason for cancelling my order. There is NO second battery option along with this scooter. Reason: Government of India FAME 2 subsidy is available for vehicles upto 4 KWhr battery INSTALLED on the vehicle. In this scooter, only 2KWhr battery is installed. There is no space for installation and connection of second battery due to hump of mud guard wheel protruding into seat chamber.

Therefore, if you were counting on second battery like me: One battery fully charged and on the vehicle for morning trip and second battery at home fully charged and ready when I come back in the evening for other work.. Think twice, Not going to happen!

6. As usual, non technical, non knowledgeable persons from Bounce were handling customer interaction. In India, people think, if you speak good english, then you are an expert. If the girl looks little beautiful and dresses modern, then she is experienced in customer relationship. The guy first told me second battery is available for 38,000 Rs. Then I asked him, what is the subsidy component in 38,000? He couldn't answer. Like caged parrot, he kept repeating standard lines in English on subsidy is inbuilt, you don't have to worry etc. After half an hour, another person came and told that the information given, 38,000Rs for second battery is incorrect. There is NO option for second battery mechanically on the scooter, subsidy cannot be claimed on spare second battery since there is NO FAME 2 discount on SPARE battery. Once I heard this, I left immediately.


Now, back to OLA. I have a reservation with OLA. But NO MECHANICAL KEY, EXPENSIVE LCD MONITOR and NO SERVICE CENTRE is troubling me on going ahead with OLA! Looks like we are in between rock and hard place.
