re: Team-BHP 2-Wheeler of the Year, 2021. Edit: It's the Yamaha Aerox 155

Without doubt Yamaha Aerox 155, there has never been a product like that in this country and when it finally came, it was by one of the laziest manufacturer out there.

The Ola scooter came close but it is yet to actually get into the hands of customers and looks like it won't this year making it kinda pointless for year 2021.
And even if does I feel it's a just another EV scooter hyped beyond wildest imagination and is actually not as groundbreaking as Ather was back in 2019.

Aerox is the first proper Maxi-Scooter in India. I would call it a bike in an automatic scooter's body, so straddles segments. That itself makes it special. With 15ps, 13.9 Nm torque it is a beast in disguise. The strong demand has caught the manufacturer by surprise, and has hence redefined the market. Thank you Yamaha for this gem, and hope Honda follows through.

Not even a single Ola scooter delivered yet and not sure whether it will be ready within this month.

What we have so far is the scooter details from the manufacturers and test ride reviews. No real user experience so far from anyone. As such, is it correct to consider Ola scooters as 2 wheeler of this year?

Sorry, if I am wrong.!

Voted for TVS Jupiter just because it's the most practical proven economical buy as of date.

Would have voted for the ola electric but with no deliveries in sight, I skipped it.

re: Team-BHP 2-Wheeler of the Year, 2021. Edit: It's the Yamaha Aerox 155

2 Wheeler of 2021 is definitely Ola S1 Pro. Here is why I think so:
  • Specs: It has the biggest battery, range, and performance of any electric 2 wheeler available in the country. In fact, its range and performance are better than most electric scooters in the world.
  • Affordability: Pricing makes it a mass-market model unlike other electric scooters in the market like Ather 450x, Bajaj Chetak, etc...
  • Scale: Ola production capacity will be higher than any other electric 2 wheeler. Unlike other electric 2 wheelers, Ola will be available all over the country. Even after 2-3 years, other EV 2 wheelers like 450x, Chetak, iQube are only available in a handful of major cities.
  • Design: Its design is unique and minimalistic. With the battery in the floorboard, it will have more stability than the rest of all the scooters on the list. Also has more under-seat storage than all the competition.

Unlike any other vehicle on the list, it has the chance to become a game-changer vehicle for the Indian 2 wheeler industry. Regarding deliveries, Ola Electric CEO just confirmed yesterday that scooters are ready and deliveries will begin from Dec 15th.

I used to be a hardcore modern RE hater, thanks to all the squids with local exhaust, poor reliability, vibration and lack of soul!

One TD of the 650 twins changed everything, now the Classic 350 too has won my heart. Quality has improved leaps and bounds, other classic bike makers should take a note.

Voted for Ola S1 Pro
Easily the most important launch of this year. The biggest effort to make EVs mainstream in India. The product itself looks good and I hope the issues reported get fixed before delivery or later via OTA updates. The product and the manufacturer have the potential to make electric two wheelers much more accessible. After the subsidies, the Ola S1 is around Rs 95k here in my state, almost equal to the price of a 125-cc scooter with much more performance and features. How they manage the quality, deliveries and service is to be seen. I guess if everything turns out to be okay, switching to this from a city commuter is a no brainer.

Voted for the Yamaha R15 V4.
Yamaha knows not to change something which works and decides to go one up and improve it further.
And boy has the improvement been outstanding.
I had ridden the V2 a couple of times but the V4 is clearly a more mature product. The R7 inspired headlights look better in person too.
Only grouse could be the ever increasing prices! Heck, back in 2015 I bought my Honda CBR 250R for lesser than this 155cc Frankenstein!!!

Was a close call between the Yamaha Aerox and Ola S1 pro. Heart says the Yamaha but head says Ola S1 Pro. Finally voted for the S1 Pro, as it has democratised affordable , reliable electric scooter from a reputable company at scale . I feel the impact of this will continue to be felt multiple years into the future.

Voted for OLA S1 Pro because that's the only two wheeler I recognize from the list.

re: Team-BHP 2-Wheeler of the Year, 2021. Edit: It's the Yamaha Aerox 155

I have voted for the Classic 350. As an owner of an Enfield from the UCE era, I am well aware of the generally bad build quality and vibrations that the single-cylinder UCE Enfields had. But, the Classic 350 on sale now is leaps and bounds beyond its previous generation. It is refined and is built well.

The Aerox is certainly an excellent choice, as it is a fast scooter, with powers that no other scooter has. The only reason I would not have given it a vote is because of how niche the bike is, since most of the scooter users buy them for day to day commute, making the Aerox strictly an enthusiast's daily ride.

And as for the Ola Scooter, I still believe that unless and until customers actually receive their bike and we actually know how the scooter is, we cannot judge if it is a bike worthy of 2 - Wheeler of the Year, I'm sure that it would have been a strong contender for 2022, but personally, for me, it feels out of place in 2021 list of nominations.

Has to be Ola S1 Pro; given the revolution that is about to hit the Indian vehicle scenario amidst the hard hitting fuel costs and vehicle upkeep, Ola has all the ingredients to be the list topper.
Voting for S1 for its good features and reasonable pricing.

Voted for the Aerox 155.

Simply because in the context of the Indian Market, it is a revolutionary product and not just an evolutionary product.

I have long held the view that the international manufacturers, especially the Japanese, have a dim view of the Indian market, going by their mass market product line up here. This is one of the products that proves atleast some have started to think in the opposite direction. Thank you Yamaha!

Also credit where its due, kudos to Aprilia for taking the first step in the right direction with the SR150.

re: Team-BHP 2-Wheeler of the Year, 2021. Edit: It's the Yamaha Aerox 155

I voted for Yamaha Aerox 155, the first proper maxi scooter launched in India. All the others before it have made claims to be maxi scooters with nothing but fairings and larger proportions to go with the claim. Aerox has revolutionized the segment with the power figures, liquid cooling, VVA, tyre sizes, and ride dynamics to justify its positioning. And great fuel economy to boot. Is it a scooter? Is it a motorcycle? It's a moto-scooter with the best of both worlds. Getting delivery of my Racing Blue Aerox in a couple of days! Really excited.

Personally, It was a tough call between aerox and classic 350. My vote for re350. Beautiful motorcycle, well made and handles so well.
At the same time I hope people are not voting for Ola S1 for just the hype. It’s pretty much a Chinese ckd with Indian panels .
