2022 Kawasaki KLX450R launched in India at Rs 8.99 lakh

Kawasaki has launched the 2022 KLX450R in India. The latest iteration of the purpose-built off-road motorcycle has been priced at Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R is powered by a 449cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is mated to a wide-ratio 5-speed transmission. The engine has been tuned to deliver more low-end torque. It also features double valve springs and a low-friction coating on piston skirts.

The suspension setup on the 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R includes a pair of 48 mm USD forks with compression and rebound adjustability and a rear mono-shock that can also be adjusted for pre-load, rebound, and compression.

Some of the other features include a small fully digital instrument cluster, LED rear light, electric starter, petal disc brakes, flat seat and a single exhaust. The off-road-focused motorcycle has an 8-litre fuel tank. It weighs 126 kg (kerb) and has a ground clearance of 315 mm. Its seat height is set at 935 mm and the overall length of the bike is 2,175 mm.

The 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R is available in only the Lime Green colour. The deliveries of the motorcycle will commence from the end of January 2022.

Wish they'd get the KLX300 here. This would probably get more takers than the dirtbike.

More than the KLX300 I wish they got the KLR650 here, same with Honda's XR650L and Suzuki's DR650.

The KLR 650 would generate more sales for Kawasaki as it's more of an Adventure/Dirt bike hybrid than the pure breed Dual-sport that is the KLX300. Plus the KLR has legendary reliability.

The KLR 650 could act as the stepping stone for Himalayan/XPulse riders looking for a bigger adventure bike without sacrificing off-road ability and doesn't want a proper ADV like a V-Strom 650. (Maybe TRK 502X Territory in terms of price?)

Re: 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R launched in India at Rs 8.99 lakh

Honestly, I think the 650 is a bit much for India. The reason this is popular abroad is because they tend to have bigger distances to traverse and a better network of roadways and trails where they can put the 650 to good use. It's also seen as more VFM than most bikes in the class. For comparison, this sells for about the same price as a yamaha WR250R and about $1000 higher than a KLX300 in NA.

If they bring it here, the bike doesn't have those same advantages. Yeah, we can also use a 650, but something like a himalayan can also do most of what you'd be able to do with it for lesser money.

it's a shame that we won't be able to register it,(other countries allow klx450r to use them on-road)

Re: 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R launched in India at Rs 8.99 lakh

^^ I don't know if I'd personally want that.

With race specs comes shortened maintenance intervals = more money and time spent at the garage and petrol bunk. More frequent work, expensive parts and "Fuel economy? Never heard of it." And this is on top of the 9L spent to buy the bike.

And I personally don't think I'll be able to safely, or rather, satisfactorily handle 50+ bhp in a 115kg bike in race tune on our streets.

I'd be perfectly happy riding a much more sedate bike while not setting my whole pant on fire, forget burning a hole in my pocket.

Re: 2022 Kawasaki KLX450R launched in India at Rs 8.99 lakh

There's a whole range of dirt oriented bikes by an Australian company called Crossfire that are sold in Nepal for 6 lakh NPR onwards (around 4 lakh INR). Each model has both dirt and supermoto versions. They all weigh in the ~110 kilo range and make ~30 bhp. It's the preferred hooligan bike in Nepal, looks great, sounds great, can do wheelies. If they were sold in India, I'd literally get in line to buy one. But we can't get anything like that in India, which is pretty sad. That's why you see people go to great lengths to take weight off the Himalayan or add horsepower to the Xpulse, both of which are ultimately doomed endeavours.
