Trail run : with h411

The videos do not contain any comments or opinions, just plain ride videos.
As per videos, the bike is promising. In road test, the bike hits 150 in 5th gear at red line and on 6th gear at half way to red line, so the bike should have potential.
I think the bike has plenty of top-end that is relevant per Indian roads. Anything beyond that I consider impractical and suicidal (or something that is/should be only in the books) in India.

Now, we don't buy RE for Top End (we have KTMs and other for likes of that). It's the low end torque that is the fun factor of these RE blocks and in the video I noticed that the rider was doing 5th and 6th gear in low 40(s) which can be considered very nice for a ~200kg motorcycle.
(Although I'm not sure it was knocking or not, the sound from exhaust seem to indicate some sort of stalling but maybe it's just the sound and not actual knocking/feeling).

Also, the ride looks like from Delhi/NCR region near Faridabad-Mehrauli stretch, (easily distinguishable from the smog/pollution - pun intended) so the performance is what we can expect in low atitude regions.

Another thing, I was paying attention to the handlebar mirrors and visor and noticed tad bit of vibration when engine was idling/lower end but it seemed very stable/minimal otherwise, indicating that RE has managed to make the single pot vibe-free across the range to some extent. This will be very interesting indeed.

Lol yes, that is the GFR Gurgaon Faridabad road. Throttle Shrottle Moto Cafe on that stretch is very popular amongst NCR 2 wheeler hobbyists. I think everyone who frequents it must have seen the Himalayan by now :P

Another video from Abhinav Bhatt, showcasing showa front USD forks :

Interestingly, RE gave him the tubeless spoke wheels (and not to jurnos in Manali) - if it is still not certified/licensed for India, I wonder how RE managed to give it to reviewers.

150 will be nearing top speed, it should hold it's own in the actual cruising speed of 120-130. Hopefully the brakes are adequate.

Heart says expected price of 2.65 L ex-showroom for base.
This bike is going to sell like a hot-cake in India if priced below 3L, because it looks insanely practical except for the design which is highly subjective.
My only worry is that how long would be an ideal wait period so that I don't end up getting first batch.
I was drooling over the torque kitchen interceptor but this himalayan has me.

But the Triumph is still 2 lacs? I think I'm referring to the Speed though and unaware of the Scrambler's pricing, which is closer to the new Himalayan 's genre. You are actually okay with paying a premium of 2/3 of a lac for the Royal Enfield over the Triumph? Its a serious question. Bike to bike I am asking.

Cheers, Doc

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Today when we have options, why not exploit them? The one bike do it all mantra of older days are gone!

So Speed 400 is Speed 400 and Himalayan is Himalayan, period. In a parallel world, then the adventure/scrambler variants would not exist in the first place!

So let's keep the discussion close to the Himalayan (which is not based on some street bike).

Here are my speculations of today's event at EICMA,
- Global launch
- Details on website
- Booking and delivery dates announcements (Domestic + International)
- INR pricing at Moto Verse, Goa (leaving some fireworks for the event)

In addition, 90% bikes will be delivered in 2024, as in December very few folks will be interested to take deliveries. With the winters coming in the international markets they have a time cushion for them.

Happy riding,

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

When you are talking about pricing, or choice of bikes, comparisons are completely natural. No bike exists in a vacuum silo. Manufacturers know that. Buyers know that. Time for forummers to know that also.

Especially when two bikes are in the same cc (weight) class and near similar performance specs. If there is a differential of a significant amout of purchase money, its pretty natural for a rider to want to know why. What for. Is it really worth it.

What is it exactly that this differential is buying you?

Are you actually buying a bike?

Or are you buying heritage and stories.

And "brotherhood" sold by influencers. And "the community."

Cheers, Doc

You are absolutely right. Also, it’s not just the similar performance/specs, it’s also the price range. When we spend certain amount, we unintentionally start comparing and considering almost every available options within that price bracket.

It comes down to how comfortable you are living with the flaw that particular bike offers, and how clear you are in what you want.

Royal Enfield dealers are already accepting bookings, is it possible to book the bike online? Or do we have to visit the nearest dealership?

I think it's a matter of setting your expectations. If I were in the market for a street-fighter, I'd look for the bike's manners and make a decision. I would say that a diverse pick would be the Gixxer 250, Speed 400, Apache RTR 310, Duke 250, CB300R/300F and at the most aggressive side the Duke 390.

Similarly, if I were looking for something that will do most of its riding on a office commute with occasional weekend highway rides, or even extended highway rides, I'd look at a Scram 411 (maybe a new Scram 450 too), a V-Strom SX 250, a Triumph Scrambler 400x, maybe the KTM Adv 250. I wouldn't look at a proper full-blown adventure bike unless I would be doing proper off-roading at least once or twice a year.

In case I wanted a proper off-roader, then I'd look at the Impulse, the Himalayan, Adv 390 range, and so on.

TLDR: Manage the expectations, and find something that will fulfill the must-haves first. The price point will justify itself after that.

Somehow I don't think they'll take bookings before announcing the INR price, have they done that before, e.g. for the SM650 launch?
