Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

What's with all the Recent Himalayans being delivered to popular motovloggers whereas there are plenty of people who made first day bookings are getting tentative delivery date of First week of Feb ?
Is RE on purpose giving preference to influencers ? I'm just curious, if its a regular practice among motor manufacturers or just edge cases or perhaps all of these vloggers actually ended up making super early bookings!

Most probably the dealers are the ones responsible for giving preference to influencers in exchange for reach and publicity. If you see such delivery videos, you will see lot of unnecessary praises to the dealer for delivering the bikes early.

I have seen only Hanle black and the Kaza brown being delivered to these Influencers. I am assuming it’s the display vehicle/ Test ride bikes that were allocated to other outlets being delivered to these guys in exchange for reach ?

One of my friend got a call to make the payment and the bike will be ready for delivery (hanle black) and later when he asked if it’s the display bike they said yes.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Did anyone face issues with color selected during the online booking process?

I booked 'kamet white' on launch day, 7 November. The booking receipt showed the same colour in background. However the confirmation email showed 'Hanle black' in the accompanying image. My dealer also confirmed that 'hanle black' is booked against my name. If I change colour now I will lose my spot in the queue and will have to wait a few more months.

Incidentally, the dealer at Hyderabad 'Bolt Motors' said that deliveries will happen in January only. Bookings till 31st December will have the introductory price only.

Prices for certain accessories have been officially listed on the RE Website. Pictures below. However, the MiY Portal still states "Coming Soon" for all of these.
Most of those accessories are priced much higher then ideally what we would have expected from RE. The prices feel more closer to imported bike accessories brands. Although RE is improved on quality over time, they still have a lot to cover. Not sure if the accessories will be closer to the quality of brands like Hepco, SW Motech, etc.

For eg, my 2019 interceptor exhaust is already quite rusted, especially around the exhaust port flange area with much damage to the chrome plating. The aluminium alloy engine side covers are badly oxidized with with many deep sports of material erosion. Agree, i am no clean fanatic, but i do try and keep my bike clean.

Hope the H450 is better made and does not degrade quickly with age.

Bosky & CK talk about the new Himalayan in their style.

Surprisingly the Scrambler 400X is also coming to his garage!

Happy riding,

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

What would be the difference between introductory price and regular price? I can't even get a quote in my city.

I am thinking of waiting for rally variant, hope it comes soon and with tubeless spokes.

Considering what it was for the Triumph 400 twins, keep atleast Rs. 10K-15K on the side for the price hike. At this moment I don't think anyone else has a confirmation on the exact price hike figures for Jan'24.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Around the same time 8 years back when Chennai was hit by floods, Royal Enfield's plants at Thiruvottiyur and Oragadam were shut down which adversely affected their production.

Now, with the Cyclone Michaung causing a similar flood situation in Chennai, my prayers with all those affected by this natural calamity.

At the same time, just keep your fingers crossed that existing stocks at the factory is not damaged and production not halted, or else the deliveries will further get delayed.

I think / i hope it's just a dealer level issue. I doubt RE will go down this route to mess up a fantastic launch through something so completely unnecessary.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Hello All,

So i visited the showroom to take a close look at the Bike and here are some observations:

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_8037.jpg

SEATING POSITION
- Tried both 225mm & 245mm settings
- Loved the 245mm seat height for me. The feet were well planted

A little caveat here: On the main stand, with 245mm seat height, i almost had to tip toe. (I'm 6'2") No other bike has ever made me feel like that, which for me was little turn on. I liked it a lot

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_8042.jpg

FOOT PEGS
- They didn't bother me too much
- They're retractable. Much like the new INT650.

WELD QUALITY
- The Welds are strong and strong.
- The finish is not that bad. Not a deal breaker at all

RADIATOR GUARD, SUMP GUARD ETC
- They're fairly good, sturdy and can take an impact.
- They can definitely take on a general use and might be able to take on a normal tour as well.
- For off-road and touring at places as rough as say SPITI, the metal grills make sense. Otherwise the plastic parts are quite sturdy

PHONE MIRRORING
- It just wouldn't connect with my IPHONE. I tried several times.
- Tried turning off the bike, turning it back on, turning off/on my phone bluetooth, the wifi, mobile data etc etc. Didn't work.
- The app and ios was up to date.
- I even tried with an android device, but still the same, it wouldn't connect.

Now, this could be the case with this particular bike that they had on display. I've asked them to write in to RE and get an answer. The store owner wanted to factory reset it. Will check again on my next visit.
2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_8058.png2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_8059.png

JOYSTICK
- Its a new type of control. Takes a little while to understand.
- Find the push button, does takes some time to figure, cause sometimes it does slips.

HEADLIGHTS
- LED Headlights seemed weak to me.
- Although was in a well lit showroom, but still felt AUX lights will be needed for intercity touring.

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_8040.jpg
LOOKS
I saw the HANLE BLACK.
- The bike is beautiful! Although i booked the Kamet white, but this one is a head turner too.
- Looks and Feels like a big bike!
- Paint job is really cool, and feels a notch above the regular, especially with that glittery base in this Hanle Black.

VIBRATIONS
- I did give it a start, the exhaust sounded good
- The single cylinder makes it's presence felt (could be because i've been riding the Interceptor 650 lately). I wasn't sitting on the bike, just holding it. Sitting experience will definitely be different though, and nothing to be worried about.

CONCLUSION:
I am waiting to get my hands on a test bike so i can bring more value to this forum. If there is any thing you'd specifically like to be observed, please quote this post.
Cheers!

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Took a test ride of the himmy and I came back grinning end to end! This is a great product irrespective of what the initial hiccups and batch issues which will definitely crop up.

The dealer has seen the errors with respect to connectivity of phones, vibes inconsistent from one model to another and check engine malfunction error.

Not naming the dealer here for obvious reasons and I know the dealer from back in 2009 when they might have shut shop due to poor sales and now are flourishing really well so has our relationship with the dealer.

Quick observations from the short ride :

1) did not feel the lag as reported by many, please ride adv 390 and before the power band kicks in it’s a similar behaviour AFAIK.
2) doesn’t feel like a upgrade from 411, as many said the only thing common in this bike is the name and nothing else. Cannot compare it to the existing 411.
3) suspension is great, but in city at medium speeds the older one fairs a little better, but I’m sure this will fare better on the highway runs.
4) why do they not have good headlights ever? I have a Dominar as well and I’m spoilt by the stock headlight from Bajaj. Kudos to bajaj and RE will have aux lights flying off the shelves I can already see that.

Need a longer test ride before I put my money down, did make a booking for kamet white but might switch it to kaza brown since that colour might age better than kamet white.

will hold my booking until I get a clear long ride and then I decide to cancel or go ahead. Seems latter will play out in hands as of now

I was playing with this thing today, however couldn't record the experience but the sales person told me that iOS was having connectivity problems, but an android works flawless. I tried with both my phones, where iphone was showing similar error, android got connected after giving all possible permissions. One thing that I noticed was that the app baked my ultra in just 10 mins.

Also, the fit and finish could have been better. But the seating postion and suspension felt really amazing.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Setting context, I'm 5'4, owns an fz v3, have been test driving bikes for over a year waiting for the perfect upgrade.

I did two test drives in total. The first one had someone from the showroom sitting pillion and the latter was done solo. TDs are being offered on Kaza brown. Showrooms have Hanle black for display.

Looks and ergonomics:
The bike is massive. Especially the tank. It's long and has a lot of road presence. Makes the old one look lanky in comparison. I think the front end is bigger than the GS and the 390Adv thanks to that 17l tank. Tripper pod is placed at a great angle. The fit and finish is excellent. Nearly as good as the super meteor. Hanle black looks a lot nicer in person and the paint quality is impressive. Here's me on the Kaza brown:

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-screenshot-20231206-192422.png

With my height and inseam I'm able to tiptoe on both sides. The weight is noticable, more on that below. The riders triangle is super comfortable, the narrow seat also aids in better reach. Handlebars are wide and you feel like you're riding something substantial. Though if you're short your arms will be extended quite a bit. Seats are also really spacious for both the rider and the pillion.

The clutch feel is medium. Not as bad as the classic, but could have been softer, the reach is a bit problematic and can make dragging the clutch difficult, especially for folks with smaller hands.

The elephant in the room (that nearly 200kg weight):
Its incredibly heavy. You feel the weight a lot more because of the taller seat. It "feels" heavier than the classic 350. Moving it around is gonna be a chore. The side stand also makes the bike lean quite a bit, so you feel that weight every time you dismount. Have to be very cautious when parking at a decline and also this isnt something you can ride wearing unstable shoes. A slip could be devastating. I am able to move the bike around in a decent manner on the flat ground, but might be impossible at a slight incline.

The ride:
Started off with a long traffic stop. The bike had its radiator fan turned on from the very beginning (poor thing has been running all day).
The suspension setup is really great when going over bad roads. It handles potholes and no-road sections like a champ. The riding stance also inspires a lot of confidence. However, this is not something you can flick through traffic with. The length and the weight of the bike means you end up driving more sedately.

Power and torque:
The very low end is pretty non existant. I stalled the bike in first gear doing 5kmph. You also have to downshift or drag the clitch when going over bumps in 2nd. This would be disappointing for the old himalayan fans. But, the suspension is so good that you can go over most bumps doing pretty good speeds (>20) so a downshift can be avoided that way.
Post 2k Rpm, the bike really comes alive. It feels torquey and pulls really hard. I was able to push it to 5k rpm and the bike did not feel stressed and felt like it had a lot more to give.

Vibrations?
There are no vibes under 4k. Theres a zone (around 4k to 5k) where there is a very annoying buzz. Post that the buzz begins to calm down as the revs climb up. I feel if youre touring, you just need to find a spot above or below said band to be comfortable. The vibes are felt more on the footpegs than the tanks. To be clear, these dont feel too annoying. Putting this into perspective, I also drove the new 390 duke the same day and that one is more buzzier throughout the rev range. The himalayan is butter smooth in comparison.

I did a second test drive and pushed the bike to 7k in 2nd gear (it easily does over 60). The vibrations are worst in the 4k to 5k. But it remains all the way to the redline. The handlebar smoothens out but it can be felt down below. This is not a bike that pushes you to ride at high revs, but it doesnt mind if you push it.

Gearbox is crisp and precise. RE has had amazing gearbox since the 650s and this is just as good.

Heat:
The bike heats up in slow moving traffic and also when revved out. It doesn't make you uncomfortable but your legs will feel warm and sweaty in a while. Heat is only on shins and doesn't get above. You will feel it especially when stopped in traffic.

The on road price in bangalore goes from, 3.6 to 3.79 for the 4 variants. 60k tax, 25k insurance, 6k extended warranty. Accessories will be available in next month. Deliveries have already started. Insurance costs vary from dealer to dealer depending on the provider. I saw 24.5 and 26.5 on the two dealers I visited.

Deliveries have started but its only for hanle black, and limited to a few units. I have a booking on the Kamet white (booked on 7th nov). Havent seen Kamet white yet, but first impressions are great, I'm gonna retain my booking.
