re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

When it comes to Royal Enfield I am a staunch critic. However, I got a chance to ride my friend's Meteor 350 last week, and I am pretty impressed. I am comparing my experience with the Classic 350 that I had ridden before and I am pleasantly surprised at the level of improvement and refinement. As my friend rightly pointed out - the Meteor 350's engine is based on the 650 twin and that the chassis was different too.

Everything about the Meteor 350 was different. The gear shifts were smooth and the ergonomics was spot on. I liked it so much that I am eagerly waiting for the Meteor 650 to be launched here. That Royal Enfield has paid a lot of attention towards quality is very much evident with this new offering.

The biggest issue for me with the royal enfields... And i mean all of them is their portly weight.

If this bike comes in at 200+ kgs, i would in no way take it to riding extreme offroad (not enduro) with my rudimentary skills.

Lets wait and watch what comes out. With KTM it is a given that they give weight as important a representation in the product design.

It's also heartening to see many owners being satisfied with the newer version of REs and I hope i get my hands on a niggle free RE some day!

Being an Interceptor owner for more than 3 years, I can vouch for the massive improvement they have done to their new motorcycles. The gear shift is smoother than on my Honda CBR250R, being a twin the refinement is outstanding too. I was surprised to see the Interceptor better the Kawasaki W800 on refinement (from an online video comparison) and the Yamaha R3 (from my experience) And in general, the motorcycle has been very dependable and trustworthy companion for me.

I have no reason to doubt if Royal Enfield will hit the mark with the new Himalayan Rally!

There's a new video of the Himalayan 450 and the Meteor 650 being ridden on some highway

The bike seems BIG!

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I was driving back from Chennai yesterday and a test bike overtook me in a traffic jam within city limits and disappeared within a few seconds. Must say it sounded good when he gave some throttle and the muffler looks good as well. Had a typical Dakar rally bike type flat note.

Royal Enfield is still more of a fashion brand whose quality and engineering prowess is highly questionable.

The existing Himalayan is still riddled with almost criminal issues like Chassis breaking. RE is claiming it has addressed the issue from BS4 onwards. But the chassis is still breaking even in 2021 models. Not to mention the brake failures, engine overheating and the nose diving suspension. So, I am not sure how the more powerful offroader will fare.

Better not to touch these 450s not even with a barge pole, until the first batch is tested in real life.

Newer REs are not better either. Recently I came across many videos where the newer 650 twins chassis is also broken and the owners were definitely not doing any offroading abuse. So much for improvement, actually they have gone several steps back, even the older UCE bullets which took severe abuse did not have these kind of chassis breaking issues. One of the videos below and this is from 'Bullet Guru' channel who is a big RE fan

This is another chassis breaking issue in a continental GT

re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

It is surprising and disappointing that a company with as much sales as RE can't get the chassis right. Comparatively a simpler part.

Hopefully the 450 adventure will not have this problem.

Is there a chance the bike will be launched this year?

I am hoping the ex-showroom price will be lower than 3.75 L

I remember Royal Enfield trademarking the brand name Sherpa a few years ago. I have a feeling that name is apt for this upcoming off roader. It can be a possibility. Just speaking from my gut feeling.

They have to work on giving more power while also giving it liquid cooling, better brakes, and a lesser weight. Perhaps a USB charger like in the Yezdi Adventure.

It does align with the news that has been circulating in the market. A Scram model and an ADV. Then there was a rally version also which is supposed to be launched 2025. The other two Scram variant are the surprises.
