Honda readies its 2022 Activa 7G | Set for launch in mid-2022

Honda (HMSI) has got ready its Activa 7 G, that it intends to launch by mid 2022. Lately, the Activa has reached almost every other home in India and has become a runaway success during its two decade reign on our two wheeler market. It has the distinction of rekindling India's interest in scooters, after the demand faded with Bajaj's glitter also fading from the once "Hamara Bajaj" to the buyers aptly telling the once scooter king Mr Rahul Bajaj "Tumhara Bajaj."

The six generations of the Activa had a few changes every time it donned a new number as a prefix to 'G'. Most of the later changes till the 6 G were not very significant. They however upgraded to BS VI to stay in business.

The 7 G has undergone a metamorphosis vis a vis the older generations. This looks more like a step through and scooter hybrid, with 12 inch wheels on alloy rims. The ex factory price is about Rs 6 K -7 K higher than the 6 G. The cosmetic changes are here to see. The 7 G draws influences as a step through from its old ancestor, the Honda Cub and the Indian made Hero Honda Street (manufactured in the 1990's by Hero Honda).

The Honda Cub under Mr Siochiro Honda's tutelage was an all round success especially in SE Asian countries since the early 1960's, soon after its launch. The roads or no roads and treacherous conditions in these countries way back then, made Honda more resilient and get its engine and mechanicals constantly evolving to enable it taste newer heights of success. Other Japanese two wheeler makers soon started manufacturing clones of the Cub to get their market slice in SE Asia successfully.

But the Hero Honda Street in our Indian market was a failure as it failed to click with scooter and even bike buyers in India. The marketing strategy was messed up. Other step throughs of the era like the Hero Winner (from makers of the Hero Puch) and the clumsy looking Bajaj Rave based on the m 80 were also failures.

The new 7 G, a hybrid between a step through and a scooter will be put to a litmus test by customers to explore the 2022 scenario of the Indian market. If it clicks, we may expect quite some launches by others soon.

Quote:

As you can see in the video above, the Honda Activa 7g 2022 Edition is expected to be priced at Rs 75,000. It is said to offer a mileage of 55 Km/L and a top speed of 85 KM/Hr. While the upcoming scooter is likely to be launched by mid of 2022, it might be delayed by a few months due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. Features on the scooter include a BS6 compliant engine, digital instrument panel, new alloy wheels, hybrid switch, and nodal spring suspension on the back. The furl-filler cap will be outside in the Indian variant. Also, you won’t able to start the scooter when it is on the side stand.

This is important, regardless of how much we discuss about big bikes and the likes the real numbers are managed by these vehicles.

This is the biggest change for the Activa, so much so that it makes me believe that both the 7G and the 6G will be sold together but they should give it some other name/moniker like they did with the Aviator/Activa 125.

Either way don't think it would matter much but have to see how popular this design gets among the buyers.

Very rightly pointed out @shancz. Rather than the much repeated "G" a newer name would lend a fitting identity to their new launch.

Wow, this looks different from the Activas of old. Similar to one of those moto scooters from the South East Asian markets. I wonder if this would spark debates in the Activa circles like how this is not a real Activa like the Himalayan did in the RE circles

Highly unlikely to be launched in India. That video is clearly from a east asian country. All of there scooters there have big wheels, hell even TVS exports such scooters.

Whats likely is a new sticker and cosmetic tit bit upgrade in the 7g.

I don't believe that video. Heck, for the sake of views, I've seen these small time YouTubers but on images of Buell's bikes and call it the next upcoming Karizma in the Thumbnails. HMSI pretty well knows that if they did such a move, they'll lose their foothold in sales.

I Agree.
Another clickbait video.
Nowhere does the video show the brand or the name 'Activa'.
And knowing Honda if they bring in a step thru design they will surely have another branding and name for it and not lose loyal Activa customers over this.

As aim120, saitvsk23 and schitre05 pointed out, I too feel that HMSI may not launch this product in India. But if they do, I will buy one; I liked the design.

Besides looking good (unlike monotonous looking scooters we are using now), this design is easy to clean and maintain. The air filter can be opened without opening the side panels. The engine is accessible for cleaning from sides.

Though I too have the same opinion, the people involved in sales say that the companies don't take risk of a new model name. They feel it safe to continue with the successful names while branding. Like Activa, Jupiter, Safari etc. I see a point in his logic. The common man will accept a new "Activa" more readily than some "other" scooter.

Folks, this shows that HMSI is content with their commuter sales. There's no point of looking forward to any of their legendary models being brought to our shores.

I'm done bro. Yesterday with that dissapointing show of CB300F and now this, it's enough for me to convince that HMSI is really not in a mood to pick up their paces.

Don't know why, but the overall proportion and silhouette of the headlight cowl reminds me of the Aviator which was a very comfortable and competent model from Honda.

New premium “Activa 7g”

Additions : Chrome ‘Premium’ badging

Does this even need a coming soon ad ?
It is a best seller anyway and all this added publicity will only contribute to people bashing Honda for lack of interest in our market especially after the disappointing CB300.
Best is a low key launch.

Also i would really love for Honda to come out with a segment best bike / scooter which it has not had for the past many years.

Re: Honda readies its 2022 Activa 7G | Set for launch in mid-2022

Reminds of the hindi phrase 'khoda pahad, nikla chuha'. Honda will do everything it can to milk success of Activa. Just launching the same thing with minor cosmetic upgrades. What's stopping Honda from providing at the very least front disc brakes on Activa, a semi-digital instrument cluster, which even the previous generation of Activa had. Even it's direct competitor TVS Jupiter provides that as an option.
Yamaha took risk and launched Aerox, which paid off. Yet, Honda can't even launch ADV 150 or PCX 125?

This is the SH150i sold in other markets. There is a bigger SH300i which looks similar as well. Both these are no way similar to the Activa.

Honda seems to have hired a bunch of enthu ppl in their marketing department who seem to be working hard to earn that year end bonus. This teaser and also the CB300F teasers + launch from a week ago
