We successfully exported an Ather 450X to Europe!

Hello guys, here is a update from me. We successfully exported Ather 450X to Europe. Initially we thought it will be a hard process, however RTO pune handled the process very well and the documentation done by them was quick. It took around a month to reach vehicle to Europe. Here are some photos from India and Europe.

Re: Need help in exporting an Ather 450X and Bajaj Chetak to Europe

Can you share the documents needed to export and the process for future reference?

Also, I am interested to know why your client requested these particular models? And what they intend to do with it? Only if its ok to share. I was wondering why didn't they request for iCube or Ola S1!

My client is an automotive parts manufacturer. However. I don't know the exact work they are going to do on Ather.

For export, you need to register yourself on port through ICEGATE website. For that you will need an import export license as well. On ICEGATE, you will have to register your bank details as well as AD code and some other documents. IE licence can be easily procured by anyone.

To export the scooter, you have to purchase or transfer the scooter to IE license holders name. Later you will need to cancel the registration of the vehicle and get NOC to export the vehicle from RTO.

Documents I submitted for the same are:
1) letter from a client asking for the particular scooter from you.

2) letter from a shipping company mentioning that they are going to ship this scooter for you.

3) your company documents: Partnership deed/shop act etc.

4) aadhar and pan of an authorised person of your company

5) affidavit mentioning about why are you exporting the vehicle.

6) Original RC

7) pencil print of a chassis Number.

Later when you are exporting the Electric Vehicle, you will have to give self signed letter mentioning that the scooter is non hazardous.

The shipping company will guide you about the necessary documents and procedure.

Really interesting! Congratulations on cracking the process.

I hope Ather does not impose any restrictions remotely if they detect that this scooter is outside India based on GPS.

Thanks for sharing this most interesting exercise, Tushky! Moving your post out to a new thread. A new thread means 100X the views & 100X the visibility in search engines, including Google. Will add to homepage later this week .

@ BHPians, if you should spot any good post in an existing thread that deserves its own new thread, please report the post and we'll move it out for greater visibility.

Thank you!

Thanks for sharing the exporting process ! Just a question, can a individual export his/her own vehicle for personal use in another country ? Will it need complete new registration in the destination country too ?

They should feel proud instead? OLA cannot feel the same way though - their product wasn't fully developed by the company from the ground up like the Ather was!

Intriguing. I am not surprised it reached Europe in a month, safe and sound but I am rather surprised by this:

RTO guys were cooperative. Infact RTO was much ahead in the process. Usually first they issue NOC to export the vehicle and later after submitting the evidence of vehicle
Is in transit, they cancel the registration and give the receipt of it. But in my case by mistake or lack of knowledge about this process they cancelled the registration before giving NOC.

Registration cancellation process completed within a week after submitting the necessary documents.

The Ather scooter is an engineering brilliance and believe they have some patents registered in India. They have right to refuse the export if the terms does not comply with use of Motor Vehicles Act or possible technology theft. The company would loose much of legal power once the product leaves territorial boundary.

Are you sure the scooter, its technology or parts wouldn't be copied without Ather's consent or find its destination in a Chinese company where IP protection is not that great?

Interesting Tushky. Can you please share details of which shipping company did you use for the actual sea transport?

Re: We successfully exported an Ather 450X to Europe!

One tends to have a lot of respect for Ather vis a vis Ola.
The Ather guys, unlike Ola, are not into big noise, self aggrandizement and headline publicity. But they do some real good work.
Their scooter does feel well put together and not like a cheap effort or Copy. I have interacted with the Ather scooters in their Indira Nagar showroom. Am very
impressed, though I am not in the market for one per se.
