January 2022: Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only bikes that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: January 2022: Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

Big numbers from Honda's 'small' Bigwing bikes.

The Locally made CB300R the outsold the Husky twins, at 250 vs 243, excited to see if they can sustain the launch euphoria, or fall flat due to overpricing. 250 is also a special number as it exactly half of the initial allocation for its 2019 Indian CKD avatar(Although they later revised the total allocations to 550), and is thus a phenomenal number for ONE month historically.

The CB500X also saw double digits after a long time, possibly due to the price drop(Not sure if these dispatches were made with the price drop planned).

Good to see Honda getting to grips with the Indian market, fingers crossed for their Transalp 750.

These are dispatches to dealers and not sales per se. The bike wasn't sold in January and dispatches started only in Feb. The Honda will get a few sales but I am sure once the initial euphoria of a new model dies down the sales will flatline given its high price. There is just too many higher powered bikes in its segment like the Duke 390, Interceptor, Apache 310 and G310R which are faster and have better features.

7 bikes were picked up together in Bangalore, causing this disruption. We can expect some more spikes on the sales charts once their ownership reports hit the news.

The price drop came after!
