The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) that was tasked with investigating into EV fire incidents by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry, has found serious defects in the batteries, including designs of the battery packs and modules.

Hope they make the report public and make the manufacturers who took shortcuts compensate the victims.

AND more importantly, now that we know we have the knowledge to judge the quality of EVs. The least the government should do is to bring in minimum quality requirements for EVs BEFORE declaring their road worthiness.

Unauthorised upgrade of batteries is also a likely cause.

Although the above link does not mention it, the report in Loksatta said that the RTO has learned of dealers indulging in such practices. IMO that is a more likely scenario.

With many companies advertising conversion of ICE cars to BEVs, it increases the risks even further. The batteries themselves need to be licensed and regulated with standards and testing procedures to adhere to.

Electric scooter fire because cheaper parts – Ola, Okinawa, Pure EV summoned.

The CFEES of the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) has done a thorough investigation by also roping in Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The joint probe examined all the EV fire cases in India and has come up with a shocking report. According to the report, DRDO has stated that in every EV fire incident, the manufacturer might have used lower-quality cheap materials resulting in faulty battery cells and battery modules.

The Ministry has supposedly summoned representatives from Pure EV, Boom Motors, Ola Electric, Jitendra EV and Okinawa Autotech demanding an explanation regarding the matter.

Simple Energy defers deliveries of e-scooter amid rising fire incidents in EV's.

The Bengaluru-based company, which launched the e-scooter on October 15 last year has taken a "conscious" call to postpone the vehicle deliveries to the first week of September from June.

The company had in January said it had amassed 30,000 pre-bookings for its maiden offering and the deliveries will begin from June.

Fire reported at Ather Energy's dealership in Chennai, no injuries reported.

The cause of the incident is being investigated according to sources close to the company.

A fire broke out at Ather Energy's Chennai dealership with about four scooters reportedly burned down. The company confirmed that no employee was injured in the mishap.

A fire incident has been reported from the Ather showroom in Chennai. I got this news and couple of images on whatsapp. The images show thick smoke coming out of the showroom and also couple of fire tenders outside trying to put off the fire. Not sure what's the exact reason but thet have made an announcement about this on their Forum.

A spokesperson from Hero Electric has responded by saying that a possible root cause of this unfortunate incident is the earth wires of the home and AC phase coming into contact with each other, which might have resulted in short-circuiting. He also added that Hero Electric has offered all the possible help to the customer for the replacement of the damaged parts on a cost basis while testing his scooter for roadworthiness.

Very unfortunate incident and a quick explanation to clear the air. Just shows that any company is susceptible to faults and accidents.

Also highlights the risk EV's have in accidents.
