Honda patents new CB200X-based dual-sport bike

Recent design patents filed by Honda reveal a new dual-sport motorcycle that is believed to be based on the CB200X. It could be called the NX200.

The patent images show a bike that looks properly kitted out for off-road conditions. It has an off-road-oriented suspension setup with conventional telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. It also has wire-spoke wheels and a high-mounted upswept exhaust.

The bike looks like a typical dual-sport with high ground clearance and an upright riding position. It has a single-piece seat, knuckle guards, a windshield and an engine bash plate.

Rumours suggest that the new model could use the same engine as the CB200X. The 184.4cc single-cylinder unit that produces 17 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 16.1 Nm @ 6,000 rpm.

Now let's hope that this one is a proper off-roader like the XPulse 200 4V or at the very least a small displacement Enduro-Tourer (something like the Himalayan but smaller)

Re: Honda patents new CB200X-based dual-sport bike

The engine casing looks like the one on the Hornet 160 instead of the 200. What are the chances of Honda comparing sales of Xpulse and the CB 200x and having a rethink?

At this point Honda has to improve the engine, and increase its power and displacement. Or see the new bike suffer the same fate as Hornet 2.0 and CB200X.

Re: Honda patents new CB200X-based dual-sport bike

Is it really that difficult to get a Global product like the CRF 300L here? The development cost of a new model(even if it is just a parts bin mix and match scenario), would be so much more than just homologating an existing Global product and keep costs down by some amount of localization.

Re: Honda patents new CB200X-based dual-sport bike

I don't have the source for this and correct me if I am wrong, I have read somewhere that, whenever Honda intends to develop a new motorcycle, they share the product details with all its subsidiaries asking them whether they are interested in that product, if they are, they have to share the R&D cost. Only those subsidiaries who have shared the R&D costs will be allowed the manufacture/import the motorcycle and sell it in their respective markets.

As I said, I don't remember where I have read this, but makes sense when we look at all the missing motorcycles in the Indian market compared to their global portfolio.

Seriously!. The CRF300Rally would be an ideal do it all bike for our market. Light weight, enough power (although a CRF450 would be nicer) and can even show these big advs their place in off road situations. (Africa Twin, Tigers, R1200GSs etc)

Here is a walkaround video. The bike surprisingly gets illuminated switchgear a hazard button and nice LCD blue lit meter console.
Fuel tank looks small. Front brake disc is also not petal type, but has ABS.
Going by Honda pricing strategy this would be equal or slightly less than Xpulse 200 4v. IMO Xpulse is a better package with bigger and better breathing engine.
