Bangalore-based Ather Energy is looking to set up its third manufacturing plant in India and is said to be in talks with several state governments, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana and Karnataka.



According to media reports, Ather Energy plans to add an annual capacity of about 15 lakh units. At present, the plant at Hosur, Tamil Nadu has a capacity of 1.2 lakh units per annum, which is expected to increase to around 4 lakh units when the second assembly line becomes operational later this year.

Ather Energy is looking to acquire around 100 acres of land parcel to build its third manufacturing facility. Reports suggest that the company is in the last phase of negotiations and is likely to finalize the location within the next month.

Why? you already have an annual capacity of 4 lakh per year, you are selling 25K per year, why do you want 15lakh capacity. Is there a very desirable product launch happening in the next 1 year?

The wait time is no way related to the production capacity. Especially when the existing capacity itself if not utilised to the full number.
The wait time is due to other reasons. Like supply chain issues, chip shortage, etc.

Or their IPO could be coming where the PEs will exit at high valuations after pushing these type of news.

Looks more like a statement to attract investors than anything else. Their current plant’s capacity is 1.2L units and they are selling less than half of it annually. What will they do with more capacity?
