Re: Yamaha hints RX100 revival. The iconic brand could return post 2026

Yamaha RX100 could be revived with a bigger engine

Earlier this year, Yamaha hinted that it could revive the iconic RX100 in the second half of this decade. Now, Eishin Chihana, Chairman, Yamaha India, has revealed that the new-gen bike could get a bigger capacity engine.

When asked if the RX100 could return in an EV avatar, Chihana responded by saying that the RX100 holds a very strong sentimental value in the Indian market and is known for its performance, sound and design. Therefore, Yamaha will ensure that the image created by the iconic model will be maintained. The company believes that a bigger displacement internal combustion engine would help recreate the same impact as the original.

Chihana had earlier revealed that a modern incarnation of the RX100 could arrive post-2026, in an "impactful package".

The Yamaha RX100 was one of the most iconic bikes of the 90s. It was built between 1985 and 1996. The RX100 went out of production 26 years ago and it’s still a favourite among collectors and restorers.

I really hope they do.

Well, yes and no.

His highness, the great and exalted RX100 was not just about the BHP on the specsheet, it was about being able to hit that power within a nanosecond of opening the throttle, the helium balloon like weight, the ability to change direction quicker than a housefly on red bull, the guaranteed wheely every time you started off with a pillion at the back, oh and of course the sound, nay, MUSIC from the tailpipe .

Not sure how much of this they can re-capture with a heavier, larger 4 stroke engine below the tank along with all the tech and safety that today's market demands.

I hope they plonk a good and responsive engine into this model. But my gut feel is the R-15 155CC engine. Bigger than 100 isn't it ?
