Royal Enfield 650cc Scrambler spied testing in the UK ahead of unveil

Royal Enfield is said to be working on a new 650cc Scrambler offering. The motorcycle has been spied testing in the UK.

As seen from the spy images, the upcoming motorcycle doesn't feature any camouflage and seems to be nearly production ready. The motorcycle can be seen sporting the same 648cc parallel-twin engine from the Interceptor and Continental GT offerings. However, unlike its siblings, the new motorcycle features a single-side upswept exhaust.

Other details seen from the image include an Interceptor 650-styled fuel tank, single-piece seat with grab handles at the rear, dual shock absorbers at the rear and inverted forks at the front, disc brakes at both ends and even a saree-guard.

Details of the upcoming Royal Enfield motorcycle are yet to be officially announced. The motorcycle will go on sale in India and a few other international markets as well. It will be positioned alongside the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 models. The 650cc range will also include a cruiser motorcycle, which is also expected to make its debut soon.

650cc Royal Enfield Scrambler caught testing in India

Royal Enfield is believed to be working on multiple new models based on its 650cc platform, including a cruiser and scrambler. The latter has now been spotted testing in India.

The spy images feature a test bike that looks like a typical scrambler. The bike has a round headlamp with a short windscreen, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a flat seat.

Interestingly, this particular test bike is equipped with an upside-down fork suspension at the front. It has dual shock absorbers at the rear and rides on wide-spoke wheels shod with dual-purpose tires.

The 650cc scrambler is expected to be powered by the same 649cc parallel-twin engine offered on the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650. This engine develops 47 BHP and 52 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

Well a better Interceptor overall. My Interceptor 650 is a design disaster. The driver footpegs are in a wrong angle. The pillion seat in unprecedentedly uncomfortable. The pillion footrest are a joke. No wonder so many aftermarket products exist. Touring with a pillion is impossible in stock condition.

As far as I can make out this solves most of those problem. Cant confirm the driver footpegs though.

But on initial observation I would pick this over the interceptor any day. I think this will be a looker as well.

I hope the finished product has a better accessories mix. Looks lika a mix and match of all newly launched products.

No new engine is acceptable as the 650 twin is great. At least, cosmetically there has to be a distinct product.

Not sure if this is wishful thinking but the rider footpegs seem to be a lowered and moved forwards.

But it is really apparent that the pillion footpegs are moved forward due the different frame design that mount the pegs.

The ergonomic issues in Interceptor have compelled to wait for the Classic 650. Now the Scram 650 is also added to the list.

RE's 650cc scrambler has been spied testing again.

TL;DR
  • Flat-tracker style round side panels make a comeback
  • Rear tail-lamp and indicators borrowed from Hunter 350
  • Features non-adjustable USD fork and twin rear shocks

Looks swell!
What's with the yellow wiry stuff though? Some sort of sensors? But won't touching the hot engine burn them? The second pic appears peculiarly photoshopped with the (?) wires superimposed on the riders leg weirdly.

These seem to be thermocouples and they seem to be used to monitor temperature at various parts on the engine.

Here's hoping that RE offers 17 inch alloys as an option on the Scrambler. This will surely make it a better Interceptor with some good tyre options for the 17 inch alloys.

As seen at 1:19 mark the foot peg has moved a little forward. I seriously hope that it solves the ergonomics issue.

I feel that the scram 650 would be better bet weight wise compared to the classic 650. The classic 650 which seems to be based on the same platform as the super meteor 650 (kerb weight 241 kg) will definitely be on the heavy side. The scram 650 seems to based on the Interceptor should be more than a couple of kg lighter than the Interceptor solely based on that it has a single exhaust.

Now it just needs tubeless spoked rim tyres to be perfect!

Royal Enfield 650cc Scrambler could be called Sherpa

Royal Enfield is working on several models based on the 650cc platform. One of the models in the new range will be a Scrambler-style bike.

The 650cc scrambler has already reached the road trial phase. The bike was first spotted in the UK. The prototype was later caught testing in India. Recent reports suggest that the production version might be called 'Sherpa'.

The Royal Enfield Sherpa is expected to share its underpinnings with the Interceptor 650, albeit with a few modifications. The test bike was seen sporting an upside-down fork suspension at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The bike had wire spoke wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres.

In terms of its design, the Sherpa is likely to get a round headlamp with a short windscreen, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a flat seat. The is also expected to get a short, upswept exhaust.

The Sherpa is expected to be powered by the same 649cc parallel-twin engine offered on the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650. This engine develops 47 BHP and 52 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

Royal Enfield Scram 650 looks ready to take on rough roads

Royal Enfield is in the process of expanding its 650cc range. Recently, the bikemaker launched the Super Meteor 650 and a 650cc Scrambler could be next.

The Royal Enfield Scram 650 has been spotted once again. The bike looks production ready in the latest spy images.

The Scram 650 has a circular headlamp with a short windscreen. It has a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a flat seat. The most notable feature of this bike is its wire spoke wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres. It also features upside-down fork suspension up front with dual shock absorbers at the rear.

The Scram 650 is expected to use the same 648cc parallel-twin engine as the Interceptor and Continental GT 650. This motor develops 47 BHP and 52 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The test bike is equipped with disc brakes and is likely to get dual-channel ABS.

This might be seen as off-topic, but here goes.

It (almost) looks like the car occupants are harassing the biker (and does look like that 00:12secs). What happens if the car and/or the bike gets involved in an accident, when the car occupants, in their enthusiasm to capture video/photos, think they can force the bike to come to a stop?

The driver of the bike has every right to demand that they not to take pics or vids IF that act is hindering him from doing his job properly, right? Can he/RE take legal action against the car occupants?

Looks meaty and proportionate.

But both exhaust pipes end in a single silencer

I always loved the retro bikes with silencers on both sides, it is aesthetically very pleasing that way...
