According to a media report, Ola Electric is planning to launch a more affordable version of the S1 e-scooter this Diwali. It is said that the new variant could be priced under Rs 80,000.



The report states that the new variant could be largely similar to the S1 and will use the brand’s MoveOS software. It could get a smaller battery pack with reduced range and an electric motor with a lower output.

At present, the Ola S1 is the brand’s most affordable e-scooter. It packs a 3 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 141 km. On the other hand, the top-spec S1 Pro is powered by a 3.97 kWh battery offering a maximum range of 181 km and an 11 BHP electric motor.

They have never been keen about the base s1 and were pushing the more expensive version plus they anyways didn't price it to sell from day 1, I hope common sense has prevailed at Ola from the not so great response they have got, from what I know they are not even selling a fraction of what their giga factory can produce, hope they get their act together this time and launch a competent, honest and attractively priced mass market scooter, something they set out to do at the first place.

A combination of loud mouth brash talking CEO, a spate of negative social media reviews (whether targeted or not is anybody's guess) and a series of unfortunate and highly publicized battery fires ensured that OLA was not able to bring the bang in the e-scooter segment that it wanted to.

Lets hope lessons are learnt and learnings applied to the next round of launches and things improve, because first impressions aside, if OLA uses the exact same policies they had the first time around, they might not survive to try a third time.

I don't think it's just Move OS 3. The previous teaser video mentions 3 things.

• New launches: Generally it should be new product launch based on wording. But teaser shows Move OS 3. So, it might be Move OS 3 release.

• Big reveals: I think it is for rumored low end scooter with Rs 80,000 price.

• A brand new product: I think this a new electric bike. Last year, Ola CEO officially announced that they are working on a bike and will launch in 2022.

Ola is known for exaggerating things, so maybe they will only release just Move OS 3, but I think there will at least 1 new launch (cheaper variant or new product).
