Scoop! Honda CB500F showcased at BigWing dealership in India

Honda is showcasing its middleweight motorcycle - the CB500F in select Bigwing showrooms in India. The bike is now on display at the Bigwing dealership in Bangalore.

While there is no confirmation on a probable launch, this could be to gauge customer interest. Honda had earlier sold the platform sibling- the CB500X in the Indian market.

The CB500 range is powered by a 471cc, parallel-twin engine that produces 46 BHP and 43.2 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch.

Thanks to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts.

Wow. Didn't expect Honda to showcase this bike after their pricing fiasco of the CB500x dented the hype around the 500cc launch. They need to heavily revise the pricing to around the 5-5.5l ex showroom mark if they want to garner interest in these bikes.

Most sites predict the price is going to be 4.79 l ex showroom.

It's difficult to figure out the basis for the prices announced.

In other countries, the Honda CB300R is priced USD4800 VS the USD 2800 of the Honda CB300F. The Honda CB500X is the same price as the KTM 390 ADV. These are not the prices in India.

Apparently the CB500X was priced at the international prices. It was a mistake, because a more powerful Versys 650 could be bought in India for not much more money! Hence the correction.

It looks like the CB500F will be priced competively with equivalent powered brands.

The design rationale of the CB500F seems to be to provide a street machine with cheaper, sturdier parts, as opposed to the track version, with expensive, lighter parts. A CB500X would provide some offroading capability, whilst a CB500R would lean towards performance. Reflected in the different pricing.

Cbr500r is the one they should launch, a proper faired sports tourer...since the original cbr250r, a proper upgrade machine is missing.

Re: Scoop! Honda CB500F showcased at BigWing dealership in India

Honda should have led with the approximate pricing of this bike. The only downfall I have seen with Honda marketing system is the pricing of the machines. Will they wake up and give competent pricing here on after? time will tell. CB500x with the revised pricing has been in my radar for a long while.

The same engine with smaller front wheel, will surely be a serious consideration.

Looking forward to the observations from fellow TBhpian's views after their visit to the showroom.

Good that this bike has dual disc brakes at the front, unlike 500X. Having dual disc will help in better stopping and looks pleasingly symmetrical. If Honda price it correctly, they can fill the gap between 350cc bikes and 650cc bikes. And this will be a perfect upgrade for someone coming from 250-350cc bike.

The latest CB500X has dual disc brakes at the front with twin-piston Nissin calipers.
It also gets a non-adjustable 41mm, Showa SFF-BP USD fork at the front.

Have been waiting for this updated model to arrive here since it was announced. Hope Honda gets it here soon.

Clean, understated and beautiful. Right amount of power and tech. But don't forget it's coming from HONDA, they will price it atrociously to make sure that potential buyers ignore it

Re: Scoop! Honda CB500F showcased at BigWing dealership in India

WOW.

That has been my mind state ever since I saw this bike In flesh, I am beyond impressed. Ayush at big wing Lavelle road was beyond helpful in going through the details of the bike.

I am looking for a replacement for my 5 year Dominar. Inwas looking for something that would seamlessly blend in while still being accessible and easy to ride and by the looks of it this looks like the perfect package to suit my needs.

The seat hight is nice and low, the balance felt good while sitting on it and the growl from the silencer sounded fun.

Hoping Honda launches it at an attractive price, this one sure will sell in good numbers if it does.

Re: Scoop! Honda CB500F showcased at BigWing dealership in India

From what I presume, since its mailed to just a section of consumers from the Honda Bigwing, I assume it will be a premium offering, not quite something for the common Honda dealership and service.
And price can be comparable.

Even though Honda has everything by God's grace:- they have ready high end products, they have bottom range products to sustain the dealerships (unlike Ducati, Harley, etc.) but still, Honda will not use their position to get a decently priced high performance bike to most of us.
We're better off looking at Bajaj/ KTM, even TVS for that. But they're marred by lack of confidence in launching some serious stuff.

Years ago I heard Bajaj has a ready inline 4 750cc 16 valve engine in their R&D. No idea if its true or not, or what happened to it.

Probably Magnet Coil/Altenator carrying the current to the Battery/ Bike Electronics?
Because on this side of the bike, we often have the generator.

Big bikes have water pump on the left side of the motorcycle as opposed to the right side, as we're used to with the like of Dukes and RR 310s. Just like the big siblings this too has its water pump on the left side, and hence those huge tubes with heat wraps. The alternator/generator too has its wiring neatly placed, you can see it looking closely.

That apart, this bike if rightly priced, not to beat a dead horse on the topic of comparing Honda and prices. If they can price it sensibly, this can kill almost all the bikes including the Duke up till 450 cc including the Ninja 400. Top this baby with a proper faired setup, and this is a bike that can sit in one's garage for a long... long...time to come.

Indian needs cheap ADVs and affordable sports bikes. Scrap the 500X, bring the faired and naked version of this, tuned for more urgency with good pricing and nothing can stop Honda from getting the volumes they deserve.

Cheers!
VJ

Don't know what the guys in product & marketing department in Honda motorcycle India is doing. Have been waiting for CB500X for almost a year and still no words from them. Was hoping for its launch by this Diwali but that too didn't happened. Hopefully they will launch 500X & 500F soon, both are formidable machines suitable for our conditions. 500F looks stunning in those pics. And need to price it correctly if they need to sell them in numbers before RE comes out with Himalayan 450 & Scram 650.
