Royal Enfield 650cc adventure bike in the works

Royal Enfield 650cc adventure bike in the works

Royal Enfield is expanding its 650cc portfolio, and a leaked document suggests that a new 650cc adventure bike is on the cards.

The document reveals the "Twins Platform family tree". It lists a third model besides the Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650. The silhouette clearly shows a new ADV bike.

Royal Enfield's new 650cc ADV could be a serious off-roader. It appears to be equipped with raised handlebars, long travel suspension, wire-spoke wheels, an engine bash plate and an upswept exhaust.

The new Adventure bike is expected to be powered by the 648cc parallel-twin engine. In its current tune, the motor produces 46.2 BHP and 52 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

The recently unveiled Super Meteor 650 is part of the same family of bikes. The new twin-cylinder cruiser is expected to be launched early next year. The launch timeline for the ADV, though, is still unclear.

Hope they manage to reduce the weight for a purported offroader, if at all this is true and it's the same 650 engine they're planning to use. The pictorial representation doesn't seem authentic either, as Sid lal himself had clearly stated in one of the early interviews after the 650's resounding success that they began the 650 project with the cafe racer and Interceptor was derived later from it by changing the tank, footpegs etc.

So is the Himalayan 450 that Sid Lall himself teased us with actually the 650 or these are two different motorcycles? The 650 ADV has to be a totally new platform - they can not afford the frames breaking apart kind of fiasco!

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 development begins

Just clarifying - Eicher Motors (parent of Royal Enfield) hosted an investors and analyst meet in August 2022. In the presentation they highlighted the potential of a platform for them, which can spawn into multiple types of motorcycles.
I don't know who awakened the Autocar for scoops 3 months after the event , but all of the details including presentation and videos of management commentary are in the website.

https://www.eicher.in/other-investor-resource

Enjoy your sunday with management of RE guiding you all through their long term strategy.

Cheers!

That is different, it is a completely new engine and platform. No motorcycle from that family has been unveiled yet. That is rumored to have a liquid-cooled 450cc engine.

These 650cc Adventure bikes have not even been spied yet.

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 development begins

Something I can respond to now:

- 650 platform sees a couple additions so the whole list of twins will see Roadster (INT650), Cafe Racer (GT650), Scrambler (Spied), Adventure (definitely being developed), Cruiser (Super Meteor) and a Bobber (Shotgun/Fury), a faired GT650 being spotted was a shocker, no idea what that is about and can be a possibility to be hitting the stores shortly

- 450 platform will have Adventure (Spied), Roadster (Spied), Scrambler, Neo Racer, Cruiser [unique kinda Cruiser ]

- 350 platform should see a Bobber too

Bigger platforms, electrics...Yes sure but when? Probably half a decade before all of the above see their life.

One thing is for sure, absolutely worth waiting for their future.

This is most likely the road version of the GT650 R that's being used in the GT Cup.

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 development begins

RE can release whatever models they want, their after sale support is horrendous to say the least especially for the 650 twins.
That's the one area Lal needs to work on first.
I'm having a nightmare of a time keep my Int650 on the road. It's been to various ASCs at least 20+ times in the year and a half that I have owned it
The tech help is a joke.
I've decided not to book the Super Meteor because of this reason.

All these future plans had me wondering how will the RE service centers will be able to service these many motorcycles.

RE definitely needs an overhaul in the service centers quality like they did with the 350cc engine in the J series-Platform.

Maybe something like a Honda-Bigwing strategy will be better to have separate service centers for 500+cc bikes which will have enough numbers due to the extensive number of models based on the 650cc platform.
