Updated Ather 450X launched at Rs. 1.49 lakh

According to media reports, Ather Energy could unveil a new electric scooter at an upcoming event.

Ather will host its community day on January 7, 2023. While the company hasn’t disclosed any of its plans, reports suggest that we might see a brand-new product or an entry-level e-scooter at the least. The latter seems to be a more likely option as Ather currently hasn’t got a product in the sub-Rs 1 lakh e-scooter segment.

If launched, a low-cost Ather 450X could compete with the Ola S1 Air. The new model could get a smaller battery pack and a less powerful electric motor. Ather might also simplify the design and suspension to bring down the overall cost of the product.

That being said, Ather is also believed to have a maxi-scooter in the pipeline. It could add a new dimension to the 450X range by offering a more comfort-oriented product.

While Ather is having good success with their AtherX they really need something in the 75k-1L to make a big impact. They simply cannot allow somebody else to take the market when they were to first to make in India with all their R&D setup. To offer more options to customers they should come up with lease option too as many have doubts regarding the feasibility, maintenance, etc to build confidence.

Something that matches the price point between the Ampere Magnum and the Bounce E1 would be a welcome entry to the market. Ather has been leading the eV market, but now have been stuck to the premium end for too long - A volume model will allow them to spread their risks and improve customer base.

They can always have a lower spec model but with enough of the firmware and integration experience. Perhaps even a barebones design for the commercial market.

Looks like it's going to be an updated 450X. Most likely a colour refresh. Can't see them making any major changes given that they just gave the powertrain an overhaul.

Updated Ather 450X launched at Rs. 1.49 lakh-1.jpg

Quote:
the first noticeable change is a range of four new swanky colours: Cosmic Black, Lunar Grey, Salt Green (replacing the Mint Green) and True Red.
Quote:
the seat on the updated 450X has been reprofiled, with the rider’s section now being longer and wider, while the pillion area is more elongated. The rider’s seat is also more contoured, and has a narrower profile up front to ensure one can plant their feet on the ground properly.

The 7-inch TFT console has been carried from the Gen 3 model, though the default layout, as well as that for the various ride modes, sees some changes. Besides, the new UI, which comes in via Atherstack 5.0, also facilitates multitasking.
Quote:
The updated model also gets revised maps, which now get the new 3D Vector Maps, which allow for perspective change, akin to Android Auto seen in cars, as well as traffic updates, giving you an ever clearer estimation of when you’ll reach your destination. Additionally, there’s also the inclusion of a trip planner, which allows for multiple stops on your route, say between charging stations on longer trips, to better deal with range anxiety, if any.
Quote:
And to keep up with the rivals (read: Ola) the new 450X will offer Autohold (Ather-speak for hill-hold). This can function on inclines up till a claimed 15 to 16 degrees, that too for an indefinite amount of time, or till you tap on the brakes to disengage it.
Ather has stated that a majority of the updates can be had not just by the Gen 3 owners, but also the Gen 2 owners.

Quote:
Along with the aforementioned changes, Ather will also offer cruise control, crawl control and multi-mode regen. However, these will only be out in the next round of updates in the coming months; Ather’s rationale being they’re yet to perfect them.

That said, prospective owners can now rest assured as the standard battery pack warranty has been extended to five years or 60,000km, which can even be availed by existing owners at a discounted price for the month of January 2023.

This Ather 450X certainly looks desirable. Im not a 2 wheeler fan but this ad was very pleasing to the eye.
And it is all real. The branding cues are first class.
One feels like trusting Ather.

By contrast, I personally am just unable to bring myself to believe anything this OLA Company and their Founder says.

What is with those skinny tires on so called perfomance scooter. OLA provides much better wheels.

Do we have any rules for ABS on electric scooters?

I am not sure if you have ridden the Ather yet, and I have not ridden the Ola to compare as well.

However, I did ride the 450x and I will say that they are narrow at 90 section but the way the scooter is built inspires a lot of confidence while riding and cornering. The motorcycle-like rear swing arm and telescopic front suspension made the scooter handle like a dream. I have ridden a lot of motorcycles and scooters and have always thought scooters are fun for the city with their small (radius and not width) wheels but this Ather took fun to another level. My vespa is twitchy fun, it is waiting to tip into corners yet it doesn't have any cornering clearance whatsoever. The Ather on the other hand is confidently fun. It loves corners and feels very confident at sharper lean angles also. I think the 90 section does the job to the T.

No I have not ridden Ola or Ather. Seeing a lot of them lately in my society, hence the observation.

There must be a reason for performance oriented scooters like Aprilia, Ntorq, Aerox to be shod with wider tires (and ABS except for TVS).

Even if we leave all technicalities aside, Ather looks bit disproportionate with those skinny tires.

Another example I can think of Yamaha R15 V1 which I had for few years. Nothing wrong with the original tire size but V2 looked so much better.

Since the heavy battery is in the floorboard, these have lower centre of gravity which gives better handling as compared to ICE scooters

re: Updated Ather 450X launched at Rs. 1.49 lakh

They also have an exchange offer for the owners of the original 450 scooters. It is 70K for a scooter less than 36 months and 80K for a scooter older than that.

My 450 is coming up to 4 years. After covering 5K in the first year, I've only done 10K in the next 3 thanks to COVID and WFH. I am considering going for the upgrade. I know financially, it makes no sense as my current scooter is running without issues. However, I do have a few trips that I make regularly that always require me to either plug in using the portable charger or stop at a grid charger and the extra 30K of range will be a godsend and will handle any kind of journey that I will do in Bangalore.

Gotta ask though, does Ather not have a subscription service?? If they do, how much of these is hidden behind a paywall?? And is it possible to simply not subscribe to any of them?
