Thank you Boni for the heads-up. I will try connecting with this person. Any idea if it's a genuine person and if the panels are genuine?

The side panels and the tank are of a different shade right? I think the side panels are of the original colour. I might be having pictures of blue AX100s, if I find some I'll post them here later.
As per the owner, the fork covers are of the original color. The panels are the plastic ones and i think they are of a different color. Would love to see photos of the blue AX100 if you have.

New seats/foams do come up for sale now and then. Even back home in WB, when I wanted to get a supra style seat made with a samurai foam, I placed an order at a local shop and he messed up the order and got a max100 seat for me (brand new). So these are still available, albeit non OEM of course. If I see any new leads I'll let you know.
I agree with you, it's a gamble giving these seats to a local guy. I am trying to get hold of the original seat - but not able to find any genuine guy. Let me know if you get any leads.

Update on the AX100

The bike is due for it's passing / fitness next month. And I have already gone ahead and made the payments online (registration renewal and environment tax). The procedure was very simple.

Navigating to the Vahan portal

1. Go to the Vahan portal

2. Select the Vehicle Registration Number option, click the checkbox and then click Proceed.

Environment Tax / Green Tax payment
4. You will come to this page. Click on the options menu - > Services -> Tax / Fee Services - > Pay your Environment Tax / Green Tax

You may have to click the Submit button twice if the page doesn't refresh. Also, if your registered mobile is not updated, you will first have to update your mobile number on Vahan against your vehicle.

The only option available is "LumSum 5 year". Once you select, it will update the applicable green tax along with any penalties due.

13. Once you proceed, you will be taken to a page showing you the amount you need to pay for the renewal of your registration (sorry I don't have a screenshot since I already made a payment).

14. Click on Payment Collection Details and go ahead with the payment

When you print this receipt, do also print Form 25 along with it ( it will be an auto generated from)

The next step is then to take an appointment with your respective RTO to complete the formalities of producing all the documents (RC Book/Card, Insurance, PUC, ID Proof, Receipts of all the payments made, 4 copies of Chassis imprints). You will be then asked to upload all these copies onto the Vahan Portal for them to verify. Please note you will also be prompted to upload a photo of the bike (front and rear showing the registration number).

Once done you will then need to produce the bike in front of the inspecting officer who will check the bike (mainly the chassis number, registration number, vehicle color, electricals, lights, turn signal, horn etc) and then give the go ahead.

That's it - a month later, you will receive your updated RC Card.

Hope you find this information useful. I am not sure of time, but this will definitely save you a lot of money.

To give an example, the complete transfer of ownership process cost me only 400 bucks on my own.
  • Environment Tax : Rs 2000 (valid upto 2030)
  • Registration renewal - Rs 1658 (which includes the below)
Postal - 58
Renewal of Registration - 1000
Smart Card Fee - 200
Vehicle Inspection Fee - 400

Too lazy right now to provide a detailed update - so I'll get straight to the point. The AX100 restoration is finally complete and here it is.

Detailed post on the restoration will be added soon.

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle

Thanks Justin, yes I wanted to keep it as original as possible - hence retainer the original rear shocks. They are soft and bouncy, so lets see, I may decide to replace them with RX ones and keep these aside.

I don't think the headlights are the Koito ones - but these are original Suzuki AX100 ones which I sourced from the US (the AX100 2 stroke is still manufactured in Brazil).

My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle-20240203225355863.jpg

Sunday, 5th Feb 2023 - A very close friend was down from Canada on vacation. Since it was a Sunday and I was at home, we decided to take a walk in our locality just like the good old days.

It was just supposed to be a short night walk. And this is what we came across. You can read the rest of the story here.

Sunday, 4th Feb 2024 - Exactly a year later, today!

When the AX restoration was complete, I had sent my friend a pic of the bike and he sent it to the original owner (first owner). This is the message I got back.
My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle-img_20240204_215845.jpg

We decided to show him the bike today. And it was such an emotional moment. He was so happy to see the bike in the same condition that he has bought it in. The first owner had the bike from 1984 to 2018. Since age had caught up with him, he decided to sell the bike to my friend (who resided in the same building) - with the condition that he wouldn't sell the bike.

It was nice talking to the owner about his memories on the bike. He has purchased it in 1984 when the bike was first introduced in India. The bike was available at only one dealership in Maharashtra, Mumbai (don't remember which one). As per what was told to them, the first batch of motorcycles were imported / CBU units. A handful of them (probably 2-3) were ultra rare models which came with the LED gear indicator. And then this one which were also CBU units but without the gear indicator and Ind-Suzuki tank emblem (around 7-10 pieces).

He also mentioned that the launch was a ceremony where Sunil Gavaskar who was the Chief Guest had handed over the keys to the owners (Behram Sir being one of them). I have asked him if he has any more details or photos of that event. Will keep you guys posted.

We spoke in length for almost an hour, took a lot of photos, he also took a small ride. I am happy that he was happy to see his first motorcycle. I am also happy that his motorcycle is still close to where he stays, so whenever he wishes to, he can see it.

The AX100 at the same place where it was found last year.

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle

Finally the fitness test for the AX100 was completed today. I wanted to do this by myself without an agent because I had heard that this was a very simple process. As I had mentioned in my previous post, the fitness was due last September. Since the bike was not in a condition to pass the fitness test, I only went ahead with the payment process (which includes the below).

The only problem was with doing it by yourself is that you have to go to the RTO, submit all the documents and then upload all the documents into the Vahan portal, wait in line to show the documents to the senior officer and then take the bike for inspection. Even if you finish all these tasks early, the inspection only happens post 2 P.M. which means your entire day is wasted. On top of it, I think the RTO does not perform these activities in Saturday. So I decided to get hold of an agent to get the papers submitted and book an appointment. Went in at 2 as per the appointment and was out by 2:40.

Environment Tax : Rs 2000 (valid upto 2030)
Registration renewal - Rs 1658 (which includes the below)
Postal - 58
Renewal of Registration - 1000
Smart Card Fee - 200

Max100 and AX100 are of totally different breed and there are differences in the engines of Suzuki / Ind Suzuki and TVS Suzuki. While the max 100 does share a lot of parts with with latter TVS Suzuki AX100, the Jap Suzukis are totally different.

Pic 1 is the block piston of Max 100 / TVS Suzuki AX 100

Pic 2 is block piston of Suzuki/ Ind Suzuki. Although the dimensions are same the manifold is different.

Even the wiring harness is a bit different but that can be solved.

Carborator outlet of AX100 is smaller and MAX 100 is bigger. The oil pump is also different. So be careful when you order parts.
I got hold of my grandpa's TVS-SUZUKI AX100R(1987) which is now in a very bad condition. I asked our local mechanic for restoration and he told us it would cost around 30k along with registration renewal, which he said will alone cost around 8k. I told this to my father and he told that we could do the restoration by ourself as the engine of the bike is in an okayish condition(our assumption). He also told me registration renewal won't cost that much in our state(kerala). The Problem is I cant identify the exact model of the bike and the exact stickers used in it.(slight restoration with repainting was done around 10 years back. they used max100 stickers). The Owner's manual I found here was of the same model as ours. But ours have Ind Suzuki on speedometer and engine cover. it's also 6V electricals. I've a doubt about the engine. There's made in japan engraved on the engine, so is it a Japan AX100 engine or the later AX100R/Max100 one? And also how to identify the Carburetor. The manual says VM18SS. And the power output specified in the manual is 7.5HP instead of 8.25HP. So do we have a later indian made AX100R/MAX100 or the japan made One?

Thanks in Advance

Hello Morpheus,

Congratulations on acquiring your grandfathers AX100R. You can check this post to determine the exact model of your AX100.

If I am not mistaken, the AX100R was a detuned version of the AX100 - with lesser power and 6V battery. It was aimed more at the rural market - hence the R nomenclature.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...ml#post5510441 (My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle)

Mine was a struggle too since over all the years, the tank stickering etc was changed. The post from Anand Kumar really helped me a lot in identifying my AX100 as a CBU model.

It would also help if you could post some photos of your AX100R. As long as the bike is in a running condition and on its original color (or color as per RC), you can do the RC renewal on your own. You will save on agent charges. However, be prepared to pay hefty penalties if the fitness has lapsed. You will get to know the exact amount / penalty through your local RTO website.

Sorry for the late replies, there were some technical issues with my device and I was kind of busy. Anyway I'm planning to start the restoration next month. I have many questions and doubts regarding that. Which I think can be sorted out here. As of now I'm attaching some photos as you mentioned. (Don't mind the stickers as it was done by some local mechanic.) interestingly while looking for something in old files, I got hold of it's RC book which was in a bad condition. And also the original keys. Is there any way I could get a similar lock set now?? All I could find are some MINDA ones.

Yes, I have seen original parts for sale with many online sellers. They may ask premium price but original NOS parts can still be found.

Re: My 1984 Ind Suzuki AX100 restoration and everything about this motorcycle

Hello.. I too have my grandfather's 1987 IND-Suzuki AX100 in Hyderabad. I've got some doubts regarding the bike: Do owners fuel up the bike along with 2T oil mixed, or is it suggested to fill up oil separately, elsewhere?

Also, I read about ethanol-mixed fuel damaging 2stroke engines..
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...ml#post5965598 (My Restoration Story: 1986 Rajdoot / Yamaha RD350) .. any suggestions on how I should fuel up my bike?

Responses would be much appreciated since I am servicing my bike soon.

(I will post the same in another AX100 thread)
