FAME-II sops for Hero Electric, Okinawa put on hold

Govt sends notices to multiple e-two wheeler makers on FAME-II subsidy soaps.
Quote:
Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has sent notices to a number of Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturers to check if the components used in their vehicles are largely locally sourced as they benefit from the Rs 10,000 crore Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles (FAME)-II scheme
Quote:
Hero Electric and Okinawa have been asked to produce documents supporting their subsidy claims, while a few other companies have also been scrutinised. Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma's Revolt Motors and Coimbatore-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ampere Vehicle have also received the notices.
Quote:
An audit by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is currently underway at four more EV companies besides Hero Electric and Okinawa... The scope of the audit at manufacturing facilities of EV two-wheeler manufacturers is to verify that the components used in their vehicles are largely locally sourced. This is an essential criteria to ensure that the vehicles sold by these companies are eligible to be subsidized by the centre
Quote:
All of these EV two-wheeler manufacturers (including Hero Electric and Okinawa) are being scrutinised, but subsidies are said to be on hold for only the two for the time being
According to the FAME-II portal, none of the models sold by Hero Electric or Okinawa are eligible for the subsidy.

Quote:
The subsidies for electric vehicle manufacturers will be restored once they submit appropriate documentation to substantiate localization claims," the official added, noting that no steps are currently being taken to recover the already disbursed subsidy.

FAME-II sops for Hero Electric, Okinawa put on hold

Government has suspended subsidy for Hero electric and Okinawa scooters for failing to comply with the localizations norms.

ARAI did an audit on these two companies who have the largest market share.
ARAI is also going to conduct an audit on other EV two wheeler makers who import chinese scooter kits.

I think this is good move. When Ather, Ola, Ultraviolette and many other players who build a two wheeler from the ground up. Government should not be giving subsidy to fly by night businessman who buy kits from Alibaba and with poor safety standards associated with these cheap chinese kits.

Re: FAME-II sops for Hero Electric, Okinawa put on hold

Its a great move, most of these so-called EV manufacturers just import the kits from China and assemble here. If importing kits and labelling them as locally manufactured is not enough most of these fly by night "Manufacturers" do not even bother to change/tweak the design a little bit at least. The most recent manufacturer ad I saw in the newspaper was "Tesla Power USA" saying they are giving out franchisees, Link is here https://teslapowerusa.in/

Re: FAME-II sops for Hero Electric, Okinawa put on hold

Both companies have been non-compliant with regulations & have indulged in the rampant use of imported parts,

Re: FAME-II sops for Hero Electric, Okinawa put on hold

Testing agency International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) submits report to Ministry of Heavy Industries on FAME violations by EV companies. The ministry may soon decide to resume disbursement of subsidies to these companies.
