Suzuki unveils e-Burgman electric scooter ahead of India debut

Suzuki Motorcycle has unveiled its upcoming electric scooter for the Indian market. It is based on the Burgman Street and is called the e-Burgman.

The Suzuki e-Burgman looks identical to the Burgman Street. It measures 1,825 mm in length, 765 mm in width and 1,140 mm in height. The e-scooter weighs 147 kg.

The e-Burgman is a Class-2 light electric scooter. It is powered by an AC synchronous electric motor that has a peak output of 5.36 BHP and 18 Nm. The lithium-ion battery pack enables the e-scooter to cover 44 km on a single charge when ridden at 60 km/h.

The Suzuki e-Burgman will compete with the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak. Honda recently announced its plans to launch two new electric scooters in India. The first model will be equipped with a fixed battery and could be called Activa Electric, while the second model will feature a swappable battery setup.

Re: Suzuki unveils e-Burgman electric scooter ahead of India debut

44km sounds incredibly low, especially when compared to Ather/Ola/iQube ranges. Wonder whom this is aimed at, or if that figure is a preliminary test figure and they're planning to increase the battery capacity before launch.

Also 147kg?! That is 150cc motorcycle weight territory. Can't see that being a selling point for what is essentially a city runabout.

What a lost opportunity to name it the "burg-e-rman"

Anyhow if 44km is the claimed range then I wonder what the real world range would be !!

147 kilos ! Damn, my R15 V4 has a dry weight of 142 kilos. The range is at 60kmph which is what a city scooter does most of the time, hence 44kms is pretty low.

Looks like the info is incomplete or wrong. 147kgs and 44kms seem impractical to be considered.

Best to wait for the official launch

Re: Suzuki unveils e-Burgman electric scooter ahead of India debut

It has nominal power of less then 1kw which is chinese scooter category. Every other low priced EV scooter like IQube, OlA S1 Air has more range and motor power.

So not sure from where bikewale pulled up those specs, probably from a scooter specifically made for countries with strict scooter laws which limit power of the motor and speed.

Remember a vespa EV sold in EU is less powerful then a TVS iQube and even many chinese scooter kits but cost atleast 5 times more then a iQube.

This will not compete with anything in India, may be these specs are fine for some developed country.

This will be DOA. Why does Suzuki even bother to launch such a product is beyond me. 100 km per charge is the bare minimum today. Ola and Ather and moving to 150 km per charge.

Suzuki to display electric and hydrogen Burgman scooters at Tokyo Motor Show.

Suzuki Motor Corporation to use the platform of the Tokyo Motor Show to display its initiatives and new concepts for a carbon-neutral future in mobility.

Quote:
The e-Burgman electric scooter prototype, as per the company, is a 125cc- equivalent electric scooter with which it has started a demonstration project from April 2023, utilising the swappable battery sharing service provided by Gachaco. According to Suzuki, “Through this demonstration project, we will collect data of motorcycles used as daily transportation such as commuting and shopping, and utilise it for future development of electric motorcycles.”

Suzuki, which has been testing the Burgman electric scooter in India, had revealed the e-Burgman earlier this year and also revealed most of its technical specifications.
Suzuki, which is conducting research and development of hydrogen engines as one of the multi-pathway initiatives for realizing carbon neutrality, will also use the platform of the Tokyo Motor Show to display the hydrogen-powered version of the Burgman.

A cutaway of the test model based on the commercially available Burgman 400 ABS fitted with a 70MPa hydrogen tank and hydrogen engine will be displayed.

Suzuki e-Burgman electric scooter showcased in Tokyo

Suzuki has showcased a prototype of the e-Burgman electric scooter at the Tokyo Motor Show. The e-scooter comes with handy Gachaco removable batteries.

The e-Burgman looks similar to the ICE version currently available in India. It measures 1,825 mm in length, 765 mm in width and 1,140 mm in height, while the seat height is 780 mm.

As the battery packs are located under the seat, the e-Burgman doesn’t get under-seat storage like the ICE version. The e-scooter weighs 147 kg.

The e-Burgman is powered by an AC synchronous electric motor with an output of 5.36 BHP and 18 Nm. The removable battery packs are said to offer a range of 44 km when ridden at 60 km/h.

Suzuki is currently carrying out demonstration experiments of the e-Burgman in Japan to collect critical riding data that will help fine-tune it and develop future models.

Suzuki electric scooter for India to have fixed battery pack.

Suzuki unveils e-Burgman electric scooter ahead of India debut-20240703033207_s1.jpg

Suzuki’s first electric scooter for India will likely begin production in December.

Quote:
Will have a fixed battery pack
Expected annual sales volume of 25,000 unit
This scooter will use a fixed battery pack unlike the e-Burgman scooter that has been spotted testing in India multiple times previously, a significant area of differentiation between the two Suzuki e-scooters.

Quote:
A year ago, Suzuki showcased the e-Burgman scooter with a swappable battery pack. The e-Burgman has been spied testing in India on multiple occasions, but how much the India-spec Suzuki electric scooter has in common with the Japanese model isn’t known yet. It also remains to be seen what Suzuki names the e-scooter, but considering the widespread popularity of the Access and Burgman models, it could fall under the same brand umbrella.
