Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review

E20 Flex Fuel update

It has come to my knowledge that Royal Enfield was pro-active in making it's bikes BS6-2 and E-20 compliant and had already made its Classic 350 REborn compliant to BS6-Stage2 since the new J series engine and E20 Flex Fuel compatible since the last 4 months. It had already showcased the changes made in the bike for the specific purpose of flex fuel 4 months back at SIAM 2022. The (minor) changes are highlighted in the picture from SIAM below -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-20230427_201448.jpg

It has further started marking it's bikes with the E20 compliant sticker from 1st April onwards. Therefore there is NO change in ex-showroom price of the Classic 350 from April 1st as the components had already been upgraded. Information passed as received.

Off note - E20 fuel may lead to slightly less pollution and saving of foreign exchange but is detrimental to the bike's engine and you will get slightly less power as well as slightly less fuel economy with 20% ethanol added to your petrol. So better stick to normal petrol for as long as possible.

Cheers...

Hi, regarding the tripper navigation system, can it be installed on any RE bike ? I have 2016 version of RE thunderbird and was interested in getting it installed with the help of custom fit clamps, if possible .

Thanks in advance.

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, it should be possible after getting a custom wire harness fabricated of 3 wires (Battery positive, Ignition positive and Battery negative) and then make use of OE RE parts as mentioned in my Tripper post to complete your installation. Take the help of some qualified RE mechanic in your area.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review

Another Sunday, this time a smallish 80km ride with wifey. Touched triple digit speeds in one or two short bursts with pillion. She was supremely comfortable with the backrest and didn't complain once. This engine didn't feel short of breath on the highway and while overtaking or cornering even with the pillion, which was again surprising for me. Earlier Bullets used to make too much noise with little distance covered. This one is quite the opposite, giving you the pace when needed with little drama. Impressed...

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review

1st Service Update - 444kms on 12-05-2023

The bike had crossed 400kms and it was time for the 1st Free Service. The odo was at exactly 444.4kms when I reached the dealership workshop -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_1.jpg

Also got the Side Handle Assembly attached to the right side of the bike as it used to come originally but had now been deleted by RE. This helps a side ways sitting pillion to hold on to this grip. It costed just Rs. 133/-. The part is same for the left or right hand side of the bike. Part # is mentioned in the photo -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_2.jpg

Here it is attached to the bike -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_3.jpg

Main parts needed for the 1st service are just the engine oil and the oil filter -

Part number and cost of the Engine Oil Filter -

1700ml of Engine Oil is replaced -

It is procured from a 200L drum pack direct from RE -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_7.jpg

The Grade is 15W50 and is of Semi-Synthetic type. The original manufacturer is Hindustan Petroleum. Though I am a little sceptical that it can last 10000kms which is the official oil change frequency by RE. I would rather stick to a 5k kms oil change cycle in Indian Conditions -

The oil being poured into the bike with the help of a funnel after draining the old oil. The old oil was drained from the drain plug below after removing the engine skid plate. There is also a SS filter inside the drain plug which was also cleaned -

Next the Air Filter compartment being opened up on the left hand side of the bike. The assembly is held in place by 3 Philips head screws -

Air Filter was removed and cleaned by forcing air pressure from the inside -

Next was Chain Cleaning and Lubrication. Original RE cans were used -

Chain Lube in process -

Next the battery compartment was opened to access the OBD2 port and this 4 pin Red One was NOT it, as I had initially mentioned in this thread -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_14.jpg

It was in fact this BLACK one with 6 pins (but only 5 wires going into it) -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_15.jpg

And this Black port was used to attach to the original RE OBD2 scanner at the workshop -

A close-up view of the OBD2 scanner -

The Ignition was switched on and the bike was scanned for any errors. No DTC errors were found -

I sourced some new E20 compatible fuel bikes standing in their stockyard and checked whether there were any changes in the OBD2 port. Here's a E20 Fuel compatible Desert Storm Classic 350 manufactured in April 2023 -

No changes whatsoever in any hardware or the OBD2 ports. Though now RE has increased prices of the bike by approx. Rs. 3000/- from May 2023 onward -

Which has the same OBD2 connector -

The bike was washed -

And finally ready for Delivery -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_24.jpg

The final 1st Service BILL was Rs. 907/- (1040/- with the Side Handle Assembly). I did not get the Tappets opened or adjusted as recommended in their Maintenance Schedule as suggested by the RE head mechanic present. He was of the view that the tappet sound and feel was perfect on my bike and there was no need to mess with the factory settings for now. Will get it checked at the 2nd service (5000kms) though the periodic maintenance schedule mentions it to to be Inspected and Adjusted every 10000 kms after the 1st service -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_25.jpg

Checked the Engine Oil Level the next morning and it perfect at the Max Level -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_26.jpg

Had to give it proper clean up once again at home as the RE workshops leave a lot of water marks which eventually lead to permanent deterioration of the Chrome and Aluminium parts. A parting shot of both the Side Handles now attached to the bike -

2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review-classic-350-1st-service-120523-444kms_27.jpg

Cheers for now...

Thanks for sharing the details.

Btw, RE tutorial recommends that bike not be washed after the lubrication. How long did they wait for, before they washed the bike ? Asking this because I'm taking my bike for 1st service tomorrow.

Just ensure that the washer does not jet spray any water on the lubricated chain, like I did, and you should be OK. Or you can get the chain lubricated after washing, if you are too finicky. After all, you can't always protect the bike from getting wet by the elements, can you? It's usually the practice at these workshops to wash and finish the bike at the end, after all service related jobs like oil change etc., have been completed. I also got the sump guard washed separately, after the oil change, as I had one installed.

Cheers...

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review

I got the 5th servicing for my Reborn Halcyon Green done on 13th May 2023. All I can say is the mechanic at your service center is really good and has decided not to touch the tappets. I remember the first time my tappets got "adjusted" and after that when I started to ride the bike I got to know that all they did was get it out of adjustment. Multiple visits later the thing got sorted to an extent but till today no body could get to that precise factory fitting that it came with.
I would suggest you get your tappets adjusted as and when required from a very experienced mechanic who knows what he is doing.
Wishing you a lot of happy miles with your beautiful ride.

DK sir, I've been a quiet spectator of yours since your Ninja days. Happy to see the old man still firing on all cylinders and what a lovely thread at that. Each scroll of your thread just widens a faint smile bigger and bigger. Clean mods and perfectly fits your frame and those colors really stand out.

Godspeed.

Cheers!

DK,
Nice thread and congratulations! But isnt it a little heavy for our city roads, and alloy wheels at that considering our roads? Please go to the brand store in your city for any service, I had to send my Himalayan to the brand store for multiple issue resolve including tappets and speedometer vibration, after escalating to the regional service head as these franchisee operators are nothing but money swindlers. They can do basic oil change and tightening screws but that's about it. Technically incompetent.

Thanks. Heavy? Coming from much more heavier bikes, I find it a breeze for the city roads. It's tailor made for both the highways or the city. Of course, you can't compare it with basic commuters but I have outgrown those scoots a long time back and this feels light as well as substantial for the comfort I require. And what's wrong with those original company made machined alloy wheels? Tubeless Alloys are always more preferable, though they do spoil the 'classic look' a bit.

Service is mostly good in most places. I always advise youngsters to be pro-active and learn some basics about vehicle maintenance so that no workshop or mechanic can take you for a ride. Learn and grow is my mantra rather than looking for excuses.

Cheers...

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Classic 350 | Chrome Red | The Comprehensive Review

Sorry to hijack, since i don't have an ownership thread and i see this is one thread where bhp'ians with Classic Reborn will land up looking for tips and solutions, so updating few mods i did to my Reborn.

PS: I strongly feel and urge, the ergonomics and rider triangle is unique for each rider. Something which works for one, not necessarily work for the other. so make your mods according to your need not just go with what others do.

#1. Suspension
Changed the rear set with older BS6 classic 350's gas charged units.
Not that the gas charged suspensions are superior than standard suspensions, but i did this mainly for the reason below.
Though Reborn comes with 6 way adjustable rear suspension, it comes from factory with the softest setting possible. So no scope of improvement if someone looking for reducing the stiffness further.
This Gas charged suspension comes with setting 3 as standard and you have option to tone it down further.
Even though I'm keeping this in standard setting, i felt this is little softer in comparison to Reborn's standard suspension. The ride is much more pliant, especially when there is a sudden dip in road, earlier it used to feel that it drops down with no action, now its not.

#2. Handle bar
Though i got advice from couple of folks vouching for Vardenchi handle bar, i somehow not convinced, as it robs away the classic look and it looks bulk (subjective).
Heard folks complaining about RD350 replicas quality and even the shops out there in JC road (genuine folks) suggested only to go for black powdered coated since the chrome one tends to rust, also i heard mixed review about the posture we get with RD350 units.
When i rode a friend's Standard 350 recently i found the handle bar gives a good support. Also in one YT video i saw someone suggested to change to Standard/Electra handle bar and the person mentioned that he changed it because he felt pain in shoulder (Trapezius muscle) and upper arm (Triceps) which is exactly the same issue i also went through.

So went ahead and changed it and it DOES help.

This handle bar gives you a very supportive feel, it felt effortless and less strain in comparison to stock Reborn handle bar.
On first look you may not see any difference but it does makes the difference felt. The handle grip portion is slightly tilted inward towards rider and there is a slight increase in height, both helps here.

Seat & Horn:
Added dual horn setup based on the input in this thread and added the seat cover (black) since someone vandalized the original seat and made few marks in tank as well
Added lamination on top portion of tank to avoid further damage.

With all this mods now i feel the motorcycle is tailor made for me .

All mods done at Fixwell motors, JC road, Bangalore. This place has good reviews and has all RE genuine spares and few mechs around to fix things.

Here are couple of latest pics.
