This kind of response is not limited to Khivraj or Triumph. I have received this every year from Maruti's Insurance team during our car insurance renewal.
I did go ahead with them though as I don't have the patience or time to run around whenever the claim has to happen.

I think you should go with the insurance the company provides for at least the 1st year. It's going to give you peace of mind, if something happens you just need to leave the bike at the service centre. Else probably you would end up calling the surveyor, paying cash upfront for repair..etc. That is when you feel you should have paid that 3k difference.

Keerthi has a choice of Iffco Tokio or New India. What about Khivraj?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

The deliveries have started of S400 hence wanted to know if any person has opted for choice number or fancy number for their bike. Were there any problem in doing so or was it easy.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Test Drove the Speed 400 today at Khivraj Triumph, Whitefield. You can walk in and get a TD now. No pre-booking needed.
My previous ride used to be an OG Pulsar 150. I am looking for a fun to drive Motorcycle in Bangalore, when I am the only person travelling (instead of taking my Creta out and dealing with the Parking hassles). I have test driven the Classic 350 so far.

Impressions:
1. The bike looks a bit small, but feels the right size for me (5 feet 10), once you get on it. It looks similar in size to the speed Twin that it was parked next to, but way smaller than the Trident or the Tiger.
2. The riding triangle is too aggressive for me. My seating position was forward leaning and a lot of the weight was being transferred to my shoulders. This was a deal breaker.
3. The acceleration is nice, but the gears seemed a bit short, and the engine tone gruff when you rev it. This is the dichotomy that some of the reviewers have spoken about - The speed makes most of its power high up in the rev range, but does not love to be revved there, getting a bit gruff and loud in the process. I think I preferred the Classic 350 engine over this one, with its smooth sound and plenty of torque lower in the rev range.
4. I didn't feel much heat in my short test drive. Ambient temp was 30 Degree Celsius.
5. I didn't like the bar end mirrors. Seem too small. Couldn't adjust them in a way that I could see well behind me.

Net-net, I walked away feeling this is not the bike for me. I would strongly recommend everyone to take a test drive before they buy this bike based on reviews.

After facing the reliability issues of RE Thunderbird over the years, When I first test drove highness I didn't feel that there's a 350cc engine running under the tank but only the exhaust note. As age increases we want a reliable long stroke bike and Honda highness is the complete package I felt, and this is my view point.
I don't know if it has been suggested before but why not the HD x440? It has a long stroke reasonably refined and characterful motor (not an American V twin character, but a very nice thumper feel). It has a very very neutral stance that is ideal for all day sitting with seats having just the right amount of padding and the handle bar exactly where i would expect it to be in this kind of bike. And it definitely has way more mass and big bike feel compared to the triumph. I have never been in a thunderbird but definitely been on a meteor 350. I would say they are the same sort of cuisine but add different spices to achieve a particular result and you can tell. Do test ride it at least before committing to the h'ness. H'ness is just a better executed old classic 350. The new classic 350 has moved the goal post in a different direction. The HD x440 falls in the same class but different enough from all of them to have its own corner in the fray.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Someone selling RoadRash handlebar risers on Amazon is claiming that the risers (listed as suitable for the Speed 400 / Scrambler 400X but described as meant for the Speed Twin) will fit these bikes perfectly.

I should perhaps try them.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Be cautious of buying something without full understanding of how sturdy the material is. I have heard horror stories of handle bar risers crumbling simply because the materials used aren't of great quality. This can have serious implications if it happened during a ride. My humble ask is to do more research before buying, specially online.

Here the problem is the brand new Engine. The engine is developed form scratch only by hero motors and its their first long stroke engine. So I don't want to be a beta tester. Otherwise I quiet like that bike.

Thanks for the tip. I checked closely, and these are just spacers that go under the handlebar mount. They are fixed with single bolts, which doesn't give me much confidence.

Maybe you can check with Carbon racing https://carbonracing.in/ . Their products have always had good reviews.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Today I got a call from Keerthi Triumph where a guy asked to complete payment immediately if I need the 10k discount. I replied that I am canceling my booking and I have already sent the mail last weekend and asked for status. He said the concerned team will get back and cut the call before I could ask any further.

Has anyone got back the booking amount after cancelation from Keerthi?

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Ok, so I have made a very short list of accessories that I would like to put on my Speed 400, based on the last 5 days of riding it.
  1. Front visor, preferably something sleek and not too round looking, since the headlights are round already. Should help with the wind at high speeds while also protecting my phone. I saw carbon racing tease a couple about 10 days ago so hope they have it out soon.
  2. The vibes on the pillion grab handle can be felt at higher RPMs (~6k+ from our estimate) and felt mostly on the highway, according to my wife. She has just got gloves so we will try to see if that helps. Even otherwise, I would like to get a split grab rail set, if someone manufactures that down the line. Will look nicer than what Triumph has put.
I didnt have any issues with the low vibes on the front handle and footpegs but since there is rubber on the grips and shoes on my feet, they probably dampen them a lot, unlike the rear grab handle. Any suggestions to deal with the rear grab handle vibrations are welcome.

That seems quite unfair to Triumph. They are already known for making good bikes. The Street Triple, the Tiger, the Bonneville, the Speed Twin 1200 are all excellent bikes in their respective categories.
That they are expensive is another thing. The quality on the bigger Triumphs is top notch and I’m glad to see they’ve carried that onto the affordable 400s too. That the 400s have been a success is due to Triumph being known for making good bikes.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Finally got the call I'd been waiting for from Shaman Triumph, bike's ready for delivery tomorrow. Never been this excited in the last five years — the last time being when I got my Polo GT.
