There is another one for the Speed 400 as well.

Probably gearing up for the UK launch.

As per the July and August Dispatch Numbers:

Triumph Speed 400 Review-top-gainers.jpeg

Speed 400 is the top gainer in the month of August.

477 + 3204 = 3681 total dispatches happened till 31st August. Mine was received at a dealership on or before 1st September so it was also probably produced in August.

Their monthly production capacity is 5000 units and it seems that they hadn't reached that number till August (1st full month of production and all).

Even if they produced 5000 units in september, we still have a potential 1300. odd customers who could potentially be in the 1st 10k in October 2023.

Reduce the 150-200 odd that were test ride, display and media bikes etc. supplied to the 15-20 showrooms. This increases the number to 1500odd. A bike gets registered and delivered with number plate in 5 days after it has been received by a dealership.

(1500/5000 * 30 + 5 = ) 14th October is the worst case scenario with ideal production speed that you can still get delivery with discount. If we keep getting discounted units far beyond this date, we can infer that there is a demand issue. Till then I guess we should hold our horses on that verdict.

And anyways, 5000 units of demand of a 40 BHP motorcycle is a dream demand for any manufacturer including RE. KTM and Bajaj have been trying for 9-10 years and I doubt they have ever reached that kind of demand.

RE350 and Honda 350s are not Speed 400 competition. They are not even in the same ballpark in terms of performance. Triumph would be foolish to expect those kinds of numbers at least at such an early stage with hardly any distribution.

And anyways, the Speed 400 effect can be seen on the RE650 trio and the KTM 390s in the top losers table.

As a potential customer of Scrambler 400X, I am happy to receive these messages. It gives me some assurance that pricing of Scrambler version will not be far away from the Speed. Had the sales volumes of Speed been huge, Bajaj would definitely be tempted to go with optimistic pricing.

Now, fingers crossed to see my hypothesis isn't wrong.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

People started doing customised panniers for speed. Looks good. But the engine guard is way too much for my appetite

And you were okay with the speakers

By the way, does anyone know if accessories have started arriving at Khivraj (or whether they have started the servicing workshop)? Keerthi doesn't have it.

The speaking were non speakable about what's wrong with humanity

Keerthi does have the accessories as per one of the SA. But they have been asked by Triumph not to install it yet. That's what I was told.

From Power Drift on twitter: Scrambler to be priced between 2.6 and 2.8 ex showroom. Which means this could cost around 4L OTR here in Bangalore. Direct competition with 390 Adventure X.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

I don’t know where they’re coming from but based on my gut feel, I’ll be really surprised if they price this more than 20 - 25 MAX for the Scrambler 400 over the Speed 2.33L price. That should peg it at about 2.55L, give or take. 2.6L is the absolute max I would have thought: 2.6 - 2.8 sounds really rich to me, specially given that they’re still wooing customers for their 2.23L priced “first 10,000 bookings” offer on the Speed.

Re: Triumph Speed 400 Review

Need clarification on one observation.

if I'm at a very low speed on 2nd/3rd gear and the engine stalls, the low oil pressure lights up. If I put the bike on neutral and try starting, the warning remains on. But if I kill engine and restart, it goes away. Is this normal?

Hi Guys, this is my first vehicle. I received the OTP from vaahan today. Do tell me what the next steps in the process are, and what I need to check/know before delivery. Anything would be helpful.

Not surprising as most of us (here in the forum too) got the pricing of Speed 400 wrong before launch. While we all expected a more optimistic (read high) pricing, Bajaj surprised us with aggressive pricing. I believe 2.6L will be absolute maximum and anything above will seriously dent the volumes. Alternative view is that Bajaj would want to position Scrambler 400X below Himalayan 452 by atleast 15-20K.

With you on that! Esp with pretty much bare bones in terms of feature set compared to what KTM provides, the scrambler isn't going to make a case for itself. It will simply eat into sales of the Speed 400 is what I feel once the euphoria dies.

I think the engine guard doubles up as a clothes stand to dry up chaddi banians on a long ride. If this fashion of wide crashbar continues, soon this tiny bike will be more in width than it is in height and length.

On one hand, except the switchable ABS, there are hardly any features that will make the Scrambler more lucrative or stand apart from the Speed.

On the other hand, given its dimensions (read saddle height) and the average Indian height, it is less likely that it would eat into the sales volumes of Speed 400.

I was amongst the first 10k people to pre-book the Speed 400. But unfortunately could not go to Kolkata till date to finalize the deal. Initially I was receiving messages from Triumph India to make certain payment to book the motorcycle, now I have started receiving weekly calls from the dealer as well as Triumph India for the same. So, I guess it's not a lucrative proposition even now.

Simply aggressive pricing will not hold the hand of this product. I'm sure there are many others like me who would have pre booked but there being no dealerships in tier 2 and 3 cities, are either unable to access the bike or overcome inhibitions to go ahead and seal the deal.

Hi,
The work done on your bike looks fantastic, would it be possible for you to share the details of the studio you got it done from. I want to get it done on my RE, but because of the exorbitant pricing i have always had to drop it down.

Thanks in advance,
Cheers
