Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

The vibrations I feel is because of the fact that the new 452 sherpa engine is a stressed member of the chassis. Meaning the engine is not insulated from the chassis(Insulation could be done with engine mounts and bolts). This lack of insulation transfers all the forces from the engine directly to the chassis and hence to the seat, handlebars and footpegs. Making the engine as a stressed member has its own advantages like lowering centre of mass, better handling and lesser weight. Whereas the hondas, yamhas and kawasakis have perfected it, RE has just begun..

Makes me think, Are they stopping production to fix initial batch issues?
I booked mine on 8th Nov in Pune and still have no idea when it would be delivered. The App was showing the delivery date as 11th feb but it got changed to 25th feb last week. I am not sure what is going on with Kamet White. I heard, couple of days back, that people got delivery of kamet white in Jaipur within a month of booking. I am regrating now to make the booking in Pune.

My theory on Kamet while delay is because of exports. In UK Kamet White is top variant with cross spoke tubeless rim, while hanle black is just like ours. They must be sending most Kamet whites outside India.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Took the bike to Jewar today, a total of 97 kms round trip from home. This is my first bike and I am riding for the first time in my life.

This was also the first time I rode the bike in full gear. Midway, after entering YEW, I noticed the CEL was on! Upon reaching Jewar, switched off the bike, spoke to my SA and he asked me to come over. After an hour, after switching on the bike, the CEL magically disappeared.

Is this common with REs?

Had fun, I wish I had started riding some 10 years back. Well, better late than never.

I had this issue, However it doesn't happen often, but can happen with certain patches of road, and even then not always on same patch of the road. Then the bike developed sound from conset, which was getting bad as I put more kms. Took the bike to service centre and they tightened conset. Default torque setting from factory is at level 60 and now RE has asked service centers to tighten it to setting 90. After this I haven't had conset or hopping issue. Take your bike to service centre and they could probably help.

They are Tarmac Adventure Pro boots. I tried 4 boots before finalising these. Have tested them only for about 100 kms so too early to comment.

Lovely pictures, thanks for sharing. The poppy slate blue looks fabulous in the shade and under direct sunlight.

The CEL came on for me right after the firmware update and it went off on its own in a few kms only to reappear again after a few days, thankfully only for a few mins. I guess this motorcycle is very resistant to change and takes time to adapt

Happy and safe rides to you

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Some new updates.
Got Aftermarket Windshield installed from Carbon Racing. Its wider than the OEM windshield and taller as well, so it for sure covers more area but practical application is something I will test and share soon.

Note: CR Visors are wide, so it has a tendency to cause clearance issues with Large Handguards. The one I have are Barkbusters Backbone with Storm Guards. It doesn't matter how much I adjust the guards/backbone, I could only manage very little clearance that was barely few mms (earlier it was hitting the shield). So be careful when you are in this compatibility situation.
The OEM Adv visors are thinner so I don't think they should cause any issues.

Also, installed Fork Sliders from CR. It was easy to fit but there was no mention of amount of torque that one to tighten them at. They're very well made and kind of heavy . Hoping it doesn't affect handling.

Also, anyone from NCR looking to join together on Rides during Weekends, etc. - Me and @ds.raikkonen have created a Whatsapp Group. Please message either of us for an invite.

Planning to sit on this for another 2 days to see if this delay news gets digested.
Today I went to showroom to enquire about delay. Even showed some of posts from here that says booked after me got bike delivered. Showroom manager informed me that delay is because of color. He agreed that they have also delivered bikes booked in Jan month with poppy blue and Himalayan salt color variants. He even went to extend of showing one spreadsheet where kamel white booking from November is pending.

As for my confusion between scrambler 400x vs Himalayan 450, I decided to wait for Himalayan itself, as I feel 400x pillion seat is shorter than I would have liked. And I feel it's suspension is inferior compared to H450

@proxima - if you are reading this request you to share when you have booked your Kamet White. I see that it is delivered to you some days back.

Hello tech_rider,

Like you, I booked a Poppy Blue on November 27th! I was surprised to see people on YouTube who booked in December already getting theirs. While the dealership wasn't much help, contacting Royal Enfield support directly did the trick! My motorcycle is officially in transit—so excited!

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

I picked up my Hanle Black some three weeks ago. I've noticed that it pulls to the right slightly. I'm planning to get the first service done in a couple of days and I'll report this matter then. I have only got the OE large engine guard and a Moto Torque top plate installed on it so far.

Has anyone else faced this issue with their Himalayan 450?

I got my poppy slate today. Tried to check if there is any pull on either side by riding without holding the handlebars at around 40/50 kmph, did notice pull to the right, however couldn't test this more for lack of road. A perfectly aligned motorcycle should continue in a straight line, I've tested this in all my previous bikes so I'm suspect this one is not perfectly aligned. Will test more in the coming days. The handle bar alignment looks ok on visual inspection so it may be something else. Let me know what you find. I too have the OE large engine guard installed.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Everyone who's taken delivery and also who's taken test ride, how comfortable is the stock seat? I find it hard actually. Today I test rode the H450 and Scrambler 400x back to back and I actually like the latter very much. Also I was feeling a buzz kind of thing on my palms after an extensive ( 50km) test ride. I had already taken a couple of 30km test drives and booked the bike on Dec 31 as I have already mentioned in earlier messages. But today riding the 400X and 450 back to back I could feel a significant difference in smoothness, in terms of seat quality. Has anyone already changed to touring seat?
Also, I had a chat with showroom personal wherein I enquired about the common complaints like the cone set sound, engine noise and he acknowledged those problems and also mentioned that those have been dealt with by the company itself. When asked what was done he said it's the message from company and they didn't share the exact change/work done. Perhaps someone who's taken a delivery very recently or will take delivery in short time can confirm about these.
When I asked about the hopping/ rolling issue mentioned in couple of pages back ( I actually experienced it today when I tried to brake from 40-50kmph speeds with front brake alone , the front kind of rolled over, it's a feeling, like ghad ghad type of thing) he mentioned that no one else pointed out to it upto his knowledge.
Kind of sitting on the wall with this one. With the introductory offer both are falling in the same price range for now!!

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

So I went to the RE SVC for my Interceptor's 3rd Service, and briefly tested the much talked Himalayan. The test ride wasn't a very long one but I'll just share the experience anyway from the perspective of Interceptor owner.
  • Feels slightly heavier than the Interceptor to lift off the stand. Though, its easy to move/reverse once it is upright.
  • Switchgear quality is okay, the digital display has good visibility in the day light.
  • Seat height wasn't much of an issue for me even though I was tip toeing. Chassis balance is good.
  • Riding position is spot on! The ergonomics for both rider and pillion will make those long rides quite easy on the body. The stock seat is firm and most will not complain.
  • The power delivery is very very linear, the torque feels flat and bike gradually starts pulling after a certain RPM, and makes good progress provided you are in the right gear. Having said that, at no point, the bike feels "torquey". Not sure if riders will enjoy the off-road part. The engine isn't tractable.
  • VIBRATIONS! They are everywhere and it's bad. There is a noticeable buzz once you start ripping it. I also have a BS4 RC390 which is almost 7 years old now, doesn't vibrate as much. TR bike was 1200kms old. The engine being the stressed member here, RE needs to provide better mounts.
  • Suspension is best in class, none of the RE 650s have this kind of well engineered and sophisticated setup. The bike is easy to maneuver in tight traffic, U-turns are piece of cake and bike feels eager to lean on curves. Speed-breakers? You don't need to slow down much. Also, Pillion comfort is excellent on roads and no-roads.
  • Brakes are good and RE has done a good job here. They are progressive yet have enough bite to come to halt under hard braking.

Will I consider replacing my Interceptor with the Himalayan? I know a few people who have replaced their CGTs and Super-meteors with the new Himalayan!
But If I have to upgrade to a more practical bike, I will push for Honda NX500 as I have tasted the refinement of parallel twin. When it comes to Himalayan, RE have nailed the "cycle" part, it's the "motor" which need to be worked upon. The next iteration(facelift) of Himalayan would be the one to go for.

Thanks.

P.S. Bike is readily available in Noida, Sector-63 showroom. No pre-booking nothing, just pay/finance and get the delivery in an hour.
