Welcome Sherpa450. Just make sure to check for:
1) Scratches all over the bodywork.
2) Clutch free play. Should be between 10-12 mm. Not more than 15. Mine came stock with a whopping 35mm.
3) Set tyre pressure to 32 psi on both the wheels.
4) Check for toolkit under the seat.

Nothing much. Have fun riding.

Is 32 psi company recommended pressure for both wheels for rider and rider + pillion. Curious because it seems to be very low.

Cheers

Ended up getting the bike towed to Tirunelveli. The showroom staff there were amazing - went above and beyond to get the bike running again. Took a while to diagnose all the issues - they had to get a technician from RE on video call while having the ECU connected to the computer. Finally change of gear position sensor was approved.

Getting the part was another ordeal - but the team made it happen. I lost just one day of my trip (had to skip Munnar). Now in Goa for a few days, having completed 3000kms on this trip. Will put up a detailed account soon.

Does anyone have any information on the availability of the rally mudguard in other colors? Currently, it is only available in white and black.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Got my Sherpa delivered today, Reached the showroom along with my mom & dad at around 11:45am, Today being Dhanteras there were many deliveries lined up & there was an Interceptor 650 being delivered, later came in my bike & I couldn't control my excitement. I just wanted to finish off all the formalities & take the Sherpa out on a ride, Got the bike home did all the rituals & went on a ride with the bike. The feeling of riding this bike is crazy, it always gets a smile on your face. The only glitch I noticed with the bike is while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, it's not quite smooth like how it is while shifting from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th. there is a quite a loud shift sound while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Is that normal?

here are few pics of my bike delivery

Check your clutch freeplay. Apart from that I would suggest you to run-in the bike and let the mechanicals settle. After that if the issue worsens, then it should be taken to the ASC for diagnosis.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Recently, I took a trip from Chennai to Bangalore (around 330km) and back to Chennai the next day. I didn’t stop for any restaurant breaks during the journey, just a couple of stretching breaks. Most of the time, I kept my speed between 80-90 km/h. I was able to cover distance in 6hrs.

I felt the seat wasn’t very comfortable. It got quite hot, and I needed to take short breaks every 50 km. Also, I experienced some numbness in my right wrist and leg due to a strange vibration. I didn’t have gloves during the trip. Still need to buy a pair, and maybe a pair of grip puppies too. For a touring bike like this, I believe they should have provided better seats.

For those who ride long distances, have you purchased touring seats or any gear to make journey more comfortable? Or may be , I am getting too old for long rides? I was planning another trip soon, this experience is making me reconsider the plan.

I faced a similar situation before with the stock seats, and I switched to touring seats, and the difference is night and day for me. I did about 550km at a stretch without the need to stop frequently because of the seat being uncomfortable.

Speaking of foam grips, I tried this too but I suffered sharp pain in the palm after a few minutes of riding so had them removed, this also depends on the size of your hand.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Hello All,

I am getting Maddog Scout-X lights (+ harness & switch from Maddog) installed at a local garage, all the connections are done except the connection to ignition. I have instructed not to splice the ignition wire due to warranty concerns, but the mechanic is unsure of the way around. Can someone help-out? Where exactly is the ignition coupler in H450 to which the connection can be given? Or is there any other way?

Btw, Wish you all a very happy & prosperous DEEPAWALI !!

I have installed Alpha at home and also used the pro harness.

Himalayan has a accessory port under the tank which can be used as a trigger wire for ignition. You can remove the plastic cover in front of the tank to access it.

The following videos might help.

The wiring harness already comes with a spare coupler for this port, just make sure you connect to the red wire on the port as your trigger.

The stock seats are not very comfortable for long rides. I've done 700 kms in a day and my butt cheeks felt sore. I will be getting the touring seats soon. The padding in the touring seat is far superior and very comfortable.

Regarding vibration from the handlebar, did the ASC replace the handlebar bolts? The older batch of bikes got these replaced and the buzz reduced by a large extent. If you start riding with gloves, you will find it more comfortable. Adding grip puppies or any such grips will make the handles "thicker" due to the foam and some riders complain of pain at the thumb area due to the increased thickness of holding the handle. I have grip puppies on my bike and initially faced this issue... for short rides it is ok. If you plan on doing long rides for long hours, this may pose an issue.

Thanks, I am also thinking about touring seats. They sell rider and pillion seats seperate. But when I was checking out accessories order page, I found that both has to be bought together. I don't understand why they are keeping it seperate then. And it costs around 8200₹.

In a youtube shorts by bigbearcustoms, I found he has got a rally seat which he says is good for long rides and it is around 4.5k ₹. I have not found it in website though. This needs to be checked in showroom.

This I have to check with ASC. Also related to my break pads, I feel they are slightly in contact with the disc, causing quicker wear. This also needs to check out. And I'll opt for gloves instead of grip puppies, thanks for suggestion.
