The full black painting and other things were done during my college days, it was a head turner in those days and stayed with me for 10 long years. Missing it :crying

That all black build is really nice. Funny to say, but I have not been stopped by a single cop in the almost 1.5 year I'm riding this in every nook and cranny of Bangalore.

Wanted to understand what is the cost of the piston and cylinder kit.

It's probably gonna be around the 10k range ballpark figure for parts only. Labour will be additional

Looking at this is making me want to get my bike redone.

Any leads for a good garage/mechanic who can bring the bike back to its stock form in Chennai?

Congratulations on your build, She looks stunning. Should keep you company for a decade and more if you treat her right.

• Something to do with the headlight. I don't do much of night riding but still there is a severe lack of lighting.
• I was thinking of wiring the horn directly to the battery instead of the dynamo because I've got no horn at idle. Need some guidance on how to go about this.

You need to check what Rectifier/RR Unit you are using. Check the health of the magnet/coil plate along with any wiring issues to the CDI. You should have horn at idle if all of these are working properly and are upto spec. Your lighting issues would be sorted out too if these are working properly. You can also upgrade the bulb and holder to a Gypsy one 55/50 Watts bulb i believe it is. But get the RR/coil plate/magnet checked before you upgrade. Should sort out these issues completely.

Congratulations on a job well done! The bike looks beautiful! I own an RX 100 (1987).

Congratulations on a very well restored bike! Such a beautiful bike. I'm sure it must be a head turner wherever you go. Gives me fond memories of the black Rx100 I used to own in the early 90's. Sold her off circa 1999 as she was lying practically unused for sometime. she sold for more than what I had paid for her brand new.

Lot of passion in restoring the RX 100. Wish you many years of happy riding.

When I got a seat in Govt engineering college in early 80s, my father who was a NRI booked Bajaj Chetak in Forex for me as a gift . One needs to wait for a decade or more for delivery if booked in INR. In those days Chetak ruled prior to RX100 days.

After I finished my engineering, RX100 was introduced in India and it was a most sought after bike for college going guys. It is all about the unique 2 stroke engine sound it produces.

The fan following is so much that there is a super hit film in Telugu and the name of the movie is RX 100.

Congratulations!! Great work has gone into making such a beautifully restored Yamaha. One key missing in your thread is the sound :)

Share video firing it up to hear.

You can check with Anwar at bikeplus, he does quite a few RX restorations - https://maps.app.goo.gl/djh8QdFb4crWJMdx7

Give him my reference, I've been maintaining my RXG with him since 2009.
Disclaimer - I haven't gotten my bike painted through him since I got a new tank and side panels and I painted the chassis myself during the lockdown.

About the head block - you could also look for used ones since I hear that the new ones are hard to come by and are also inferior in quality.
My bike had a seized piston in 2015 (bike was run without oil)
At that time Anwar was not able to source a new head block. I had to settle for a used one which was already bored once. Bike's been running fine up until now so I'm not complaining.

Above sentence pretty much sums up what a legend this machine is! Even though I never owned one, was fortunate enough to ride many miles on them in my college days borrowing from friends.

Good decision to restore it, you are set for another decade of pure adrenaline rush! :)

Happy riding...

CDI has no wiring issues. Will have to check the Rectifier. Completely went over my head when I wrote the post.

Thanks!!! Will post a video. Am testing out a couple of different devices which captures the audio perfectly

Huge respect to Restoration works in general!
The people involved in restoration industry are artists and the the people who commission such project are real art lovers.
I suggest to avoid regular usage of the 2 stroke engine; the fumes are really problematic to larger audience , especially in cities. Better to reserve it for occasional weekend rides only!

If you meant the smoke that most 2 strokes emit on a regular basis, I've fine tuned the amount of oil that I mix with petrol to reduce it to almost nothing. And my oil pump is working as of now so no excessive white smoke out the exhaust. :)
