Ather Energy is gearing up to launch the 2025 edition of the 450S and 450X on January 4. Both e-scooters are expected to get performance and safety updates.



Last week, in a social media post, Tarun Mehta, CEO and co-founder of Ather Energy, used the term “Track-Tion”. This led to speculations that the new 450 range could get traction control, just like the Rizta. Moreover, the updated range of e-scooters might also feature active regenerative braking, which Ather calls ‘Magic Twist’.

While the exact technical details of the 2025 Ather 450X and 450S are unknown, the e-scooters are likely to use the same battery and electric motor as the outgoing version. However, we might see a slight increase in the overall range.

Besides this, both e-scooters could be offered in new colours. Prices are also expected to go up ever so slightly.

The primary purpose of ABS is to reduce the stopping distance. When the brakes get locked, the stopping distance increases.
Based on the above knowledge, I am hypothising that manufacturers are able to get away with, offering almost similar stopping distances using a combination of regen + brakes. This offers them cost "efficiencies".

I agree this is not ideal, but corporations care about profits above everything else and every tiny bit of "efficiency" is essential to them.

From my limited knowledge, the primary function of ABS is to stop the wheels from getting locked. It may not necessarily improve the stopping distance.

I am not sure how regen/ CBS would work in case of a sudden stopping maneuver on a wet monsoon road.

Moreover when ABS is available as an option (ex Hero Xtreme 125) the difference is mere 4-5 thousand rupees.

When the wheels get locked, the stopping distance increases, and that is what ABS mitigates. The regen is extremely strong, enough in some instances to bring to vehicle to stop by itself.

2025 Ather 450 e-scooter range launched at Rs 1.30 lakh

Ather Energy has launched the 2025 edition of its 450 series. The electric scooter is available in three variants – 450S, 450X and 450 Apex, with prices starting at Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).



The 2025 Ather 450 series comes with several updates, including new features and improved range. The 450X and 450 Apex now get traction control with three settings: Rain, Road and Rally, and the ‘MagicTwist’ active regenerative braking function. All three variants are now fitted with MRF Zapper N e-tred tyres.

The 2025 edition of the Ather 450 e-scooter comes with the brand’s latest Atherstack 6, which includes features like Google Maps, Alexa and Whatsapp notifications. Besides this, there are two new colours on offer: Hyper Sand and Stealth Blue.



The Ather 450S has a 2.9 kWh battery, which now offers a range of 105 km in Smart Eco mode. It powers an electric motor that generates 5.4 kW and 22 Nm.

The 450X is available with 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh battery options with a range of 105 km and 130 km, respectively. The Ather 450 Apex is powered by a 3.7 kWh battery, delivering a range of 130 km on a single charge. The 450X comes with a 6.4 kW electric motor that makes 26 Nm of torque, while the 450 Apex has a 7 kW motor.



The 450S comes with a 375 W charger that can charge the battery from 0-100% in 7 hours and 45 minutes. A 700 W charger is available with the 450X and 450 Apex. It can charge the 2.9 kWh battery in 4 hours and 30 minutes and the 3.7 kWh battery pack in 5 hours and 45 minutes.

• 450S - Rs 1.30 lakh
• 450X (2.9 kWh) - Rs 1.47 lakh
• 450X (3.7 kWh) - Rs 1.57 lakh
• 450 Apex - Rs 2 lakh

There was an update on my nephew's 450 Apex soon after the launch. We got all excited.

But sadly, no Traction Control.
