The ones aspiring the 250 Adv will be waiting for the Xpulse 210. More affordable and the Hero 210cc engine is absolute screamer in terms of performance. An almost polar opposite to the outgoing Xpulse. Very eager to know how Hero have managed to tune the 210cc engine, gearing for Xpulse 210.

Sadly, barring the engine, I felt the rest of the Karizma XMR 210 is mediocre in almost every aspect. And hence as a package it is a flop.

Got some time to expand on this idea. Made three different variants of it based on the ADV X color schemes. Its akin to the likes of KTM 950/990/890 SMTs. A supermoto-ADV crossover with 17 inch handling and tyre options, generous suspension travel and the conveniences of an ADV like wind protection and 14.5L tank. It is very doable if someone wants to do this. SMCR is nice but this this the touring Supermoto

I saw this video last night and could not help but notice the suspension bottoming-out on many a landing after those jumps. Even Abhinav mentioned the same during the media ride trials. Abhinav also struggled badly shifting from 1st to 2nd. He kept hitting neutral in between which can land us in trouble off the road. Hope that was one-off case.

This is a KTM released video, so there are only positives drawn on the bike. As a dakar rider, I am sure he would have experienced some grey areas too and would have been good to highlight them as well.

Suspension bottoming out has been evident in most of the videos. There was a loud thud from one of the instagram videos. I think the suspension is not made for hard core offroading. R version would be ideal if offroading is a major use case. Hope it will make to India soon.

I was thinking the same - he would not talk about the grey areas as it is a KTM sponsored video. I also doubt if it was an edited narrative - like stressing on the superiority of the KTM spoked wheels vs the cross spoked wheels (obvious reference to Himalayan).

Overall, it is a very well captured video capturing all the pros. Great marketing initiative.

I have been watching many reviews and my inference compared to Himalayan.

KTM Adv (+)
  • Light and Agile
  • Power: Great top end (post 6500 rpm as per reviews), decent mid
  • Headlights (better throw and focus than himalayan, especially high beam)
  • Good Suspension - Adjustable is a plus point
  • Features - Cruise control, electronic aids, crawl feature, TFT dashboard
  • Better fit and finish (wires properly routed/ hidden)
KTM Adv (-)
  • Vibration on foot peg
  • Poor low end power
  • Feels small while riding - no big bike feel like Himalayan
  • Uncomfortable seat for touring (narrow and low padding) - effect of low seat height it seems
  • Aggressive knee triangle for tall riders (less space between foot pegs and seat - low height seat and thick foot peg cushion to manage vibrations seem to be the culprits)
  • Small rear seat (not suitable for two up touring)
  • No luggage mounting options by default (no rear rack, open grab rails, less mounting points)
  • More plastic panels may give vibrations in future (Himalayan is simple)
Himalayan (+)
  • Awesome Suspension
  • Big Bike Feel - size
  • Stable on highway with wind blast (Weight helps)
  • Better low end torque than KTM
  • Spacious and comfortable seats for two up touring - many accessory seat options too
  • Luggage friendly - spacious rear seat, top rack by default, mounting points
  • Many OEM accessories
  • Price
Himalayan (-)
  • Vibrations - on handle bar at specific rpm
  • Less refined compared to KTM
  • Top heavy - more effort to handle at slow speeds/ winding roads
  • Fit and Finish
  • Side stand angle

Thats the beauty of adjustable suspension. You quickly go 10 clicks out on compression and its much better while taking a jump. At least the KTM does have adjustability. I wonder how the 200kg Himalayan will take the same jump? To me, the KTM is miles ahead to play vs the Himalayan.

PS- what is the timeline on the Enduro R? And SMC R?

Re: 2025 KTM 390 Adventure & Adventure X launched in India | Priced from Rs 2.91 lakh

So went to test ride the 390 Adv today at Sai Service Bund Garden, Pune. No test bikes are available yet. Should be there by 15th March. No Standard on display. Could see and sit on the X.

Very approachable, very comfortable. Looks awesome. Seat will definitely need to be padded for healthier guys like me (for reference I am 6ft 2in tall and weigh 110kg). I like the White more than the Orange. Will definitely go for the X. Waiting for some real world reviews and MotorInc

On-road prices are Rs.3,54,000 for the X in Pune and Rs.4,42,000 for the Standard.

If trying to get the motorinc perspective then your OTR will be 3,54,400 /-
I too will mostly go for the X version as it has everything that the regular has minus the electronics, wheels, adjustable suspension and cruise control. None of these things are that much of a miss for me as I am upgrading from a very old motorcycle. However there will be some upcoming gear expenditures for me like gloves and boots as both have aged and torn out now.

Same here. I would happily invest money into gear instead of paying almost Rs. 96,000 for things that are good to have, not necessary. My only disappointment is Traction Control and Cruise Control. All the hardware is there already.

Re: 2025 KTM 390 Adventure & Adventure X launched in India | Priced from Rs 2.91 lakh

Was given a demo test ride of the Adv X within the parking lot of KTM here in Nashik. The bike seems very approachable and easy to ride. For reference I am 5.65ish and was wearing Woodland shoes. With proper riding boots it should become easier to flatfoot.

Am quoted 3,57,000 and 4,44,000 for the X and the S models.

Re: 2025 KTM 390 Adventure & Adventure X launched in India | Priced from Rs 2.91 lakh

Went to Whitefield KTM and test drove the Adventure 390 X an hour back.

Observations:
- There was already some issue with the clutch on the test drive bike but keeping that aside, the bike did feel light and quick. Easy to move around. I am 174 cm tall and could easily reach the ground with both feet planted.
- Fit, finish and quality of materials felt better than Himalayan.
- We do feel the bike being eager to move forward in the initial two gears, thanks to the crawl feature.
- I didn't have any issues with the seat. Firm seats do fare well on long journeys, so I will give it a few thousand kms to settle in if I am buying one. There was no pillion, so can't comment on the pillion seat experience.
- Vibes were indeed the most evident on the footpegs. Manageable on the handlebar and little to none on the seat. But these are only upto 5k rpm, beyond which it is surprisingly smooth. I think this will be great on the highways. Eagerly waiting for Royal Brothers to list the Adv for renting it .
- The one thing that didn't impress me was the suspension. It was not at all like an adventure bike suspension, felt like any other street bike albeit with longer travel. Add to it the non-adjustable aspect, it is nowhere close to the Himalayan. The Himalayan is literally a sofa on wheels. Can't comment on the adjustable suspension equipped Adv though. Hopefully, it will be better.
- Heat from the engine was as expected for this class.

Immediately went to the RE showroom. Test drove the Himalayan 450 after a long time. All the beautiful (impressive suspension, big bike feel, engine, very spacious for two) and ugly (Hand numbing vibes at 4.7k - 5.7k rpm, useless mirrors, heavy clutch, the side stand and weight) stayed the same even after 13.5k kms on the odo.

Then hopped on to Guerilla to get a feel of the engine tune on that and what a stark difference it was. Same engine but it is surprisingly refined on the Guerilla and never felt any annoyance even upto 6k rpm. Couldn't pull it beyond that in the city. Hope, RE refines the Himalayan's engine to this level atleast. But looking at RE's track record, updates are going to be very slow and years apart.

So it seems like someone coming from a street bike should find this much more comfortable plus this should translate to very good handling in twisties and on the highway
