Another maxi scooter incoming


According to Autocar India, Honda is gearing up to bring the ADV160 maxi scooter to India by 2026. It is codenamed as K4LA, and it'll rival the recently launched Hero Xoom 160 and Yamaha's Aerox 155.

It's powered by a 156cc liquid cooled engine producing 16hp and 15Nm of torque mated to a CVT gearbox. It runs on 14-13in alloy wheels. Features consist of traction control system, dual channel ABS, height adjustable windscreen and a 30litre storage space under the seat.

Based on the previous rumors, I was hoping they would also launch Forza 350 in addition to this scooter. For folks who already appreciate the difference in utility of maxi scooters compared to normal Activas/Jupiters/etc. (e.g. more power, highway capable, bigger under seat storage, liquid cooled, etc.), it would have been nice to have something to upgrade to from Aerox.

Have heard these rumours ad nauseum from Honda over the years. PCX 125, PCX 150, PCX 300, Forza 350 etc. Now its become yet another version of 'sher aaya.' Wonder why are firms so shy to introduce a halo product like a maxi scooter or even a 'Niken' or 'Tricity' Trike.

How about the Forza 350 , Honda ? We've been hearing about the Forza 350 launch for eons now. Nothing has come of it.

Wouldn't it be better to launch a niche product like the 350, gain a first mover advantage in a non-existent segment ( should I say...create a segment ? ) and then follow it up by launching the ADV 160 to fight it out with the others ?

If Honda couldnt even experiment with the CB350 and made it their own instead of brazenly copying existing hero product (RE Classic/Bullet), then I dont think we should expect segment creation from Honda.

Hope, that when it gets launched, (if it does indeed!), it doesn't go through the usual "It's a premium Honda, hence its price is 1.5X that of the competition" syndrome and then they following it up with "ok, we will cut the price by 50k, to clear stock" .

Honda already has the famous scooter brand Activa, which is available in 100cc and 125cc options (an electric Activa is also planned). Instead of releasing an entirely new maxi scooter, Honda would benefit more, in my opinion, if they launched another Activa variant with that 150cc engine.

In my opinion, maxi scooters is a segment which excites a lot of folks when they hear announcements of new products, But when it is about buying those maxi scooters, there will be very few real buyers.

India is still an aspirational market where the customers are trying to derive their worth by the products they own. When we are talking about 150/200+cc vehicles, the geared bikes will see more traction than maxi scooters as the geared bikes derive more aspirational value as of today.
