IN Zigwheels it is mentioned that the plan to import was during the time when the $ prices were low, Now tith the dollar back up BAL's plans must have gone awry. I guess hence the steep price tag

We could expect this 2.69L price tag to go up after a few months. It is not absolutely dissappointing but at the same time out of reach for many. 2.2L was mostly expected.

Does this mean that the pricing will vary according to high's and low's in dollar price? Seems it won't. But its for sure that the Ninja will be a great sports tourer.

I am going to visit the probiking showroom either today or tomorrow. See if I can post some showroom images.

Ahaha. Overpriced it is, then. Okay. Just as a disclaimer, enthusiasts will justify the price tag due to lack of competition, but in the end, affordability is a non-negotiable aspect.

Speaking of value for money, here's a knocker:

ZMA: 4940 INR per BHP (@83K on road, 16.8 bhp)
R15: 6058 INR per BHP (@103K on road, 17 bhp)
Ninja: 10508 INR per BHP (@310K on road, 29.5 bhp/30 ps as per Bajaj)
Hayabusa: 7744 INR per BHP (@1363K on road, 176 WHP)
Suzuki Swift: 6860 per BHP (@590K on road, 86 bhp)
Honda City: 8448 INR per BHP (@980K on road, 116 bhp)
Honda Accord: 11581 INR per BHP (2050K on road, 177 bhp)

So you see, the Busa, even at it's current heady price, is more VFM than the Ninja. This is strictly enthusiast-performance-speaking.

I'm nitpicking here, but I've always felt that the baby Ninja's clocks are quite not upto the mark. Frankly, the ZMR's clocks look ages better. Even the R15's clocks are better. Heck, there's not even a fuel gauge on the Ninja...!

The only positive thing is the route that Bajaj is taking off the SKD. If they can price a 200,000 INR (world-wide price) at 300,000, let's hope that they can show enough commitment to price the 480,000-odd INR (world-wide price) KTM 690 at 650,000 or thereabouts, when they finally decide to launch it by 2011.

I'm keeping both fingers crossed and praying with my heart and soul that Yamaha goes the SKD/CKD route and get the FZ1 below 7 lac INR (approx 500,000 INR worldwide). I'll beg, borrow AND steal to get my hands on one. An FZ1 at that price, would be VFM. Period. And I will have one. Period.

LOL never in my dreams did I think someone would come up with a comparison like this

Yes you are :-)

The Discover/TVS flame has better speedo than the ZMA, does that make them better than ZMA?

Leave all that just pay a visit to a showroom when it reaches there, the clocks look much better than we expected (US spec ones)

I think you are quoting the price of US spec bike, this one is Euro spec which is roughly 2.5L INR

Its CKD (Completely Knocked Down)

So, in Bangalore it could end up touching 3.5 lacs on Road. Or atleast it'll be more than 3.3 lacs. Good thing is that we're getting the latest model. I wish the Free Trade Agreement between India & Thailand comes up fast.

So what? a Euro spec is sold in Europe for 2.5L INR by Kawasaki, In India it is facilitated by Bajaj. Do you expect it to be sold at same margins at which Kawasaki sells it in EU?

I am really disappointed by the pricing. 3 Lac on road for 250 cc bike !!!.
They import from Thailand as CKD and pricing at 2.69 as such its an CUB.They have to reduce the price at least by a lakh to achive their sales target.

A Honda Shine sells for 2000 pounds in the UK so lets keep things objective here.

Really sad, thought of picking the bike if it was under 2 Lakh. Out of reach now.
