Kinetic Luna

My God, Man theres no moped that gives this fuel effeciency.
After i've done my engine, i've ran 100 kms with only 2 ltrs of fuel filled initially.
I still have some more fuel left in the tank. The manual shows 70 kmpl.
I think 60 kmpl would be an ideal mileage this moped can give.
STILL "Chal meri LUNA"
Had a Red Luna Magnum purchased somewhere in 1992 from Steerwell Motors in Bangalore (KA 02 E 4996). I recollect an ad placed by Kinetic in Deccan Herald proudly claiming that the New Luna Magnum had effectively overtaken the legendary Deccan Queen on the Mumbai Pune run (!!!!). We were impressed
Sis & I (somewhat less extensively) used to go around on the Maggie (As we affectionately used to call her) on Bangalore roads. Later, took it with me to Manipal where the moist weather almost ruined the little Magnum. I put the Magnum in the luggage van of the (then) 1 - coach KR passenger train from Udupi to Mangalore, got her repaired at the Pai Sales Corporation authorized workshop at Pandeshwar Mangalore, spending close to Rs 900/- then. I then drove it back to Manipal on the busy NH 17, with a single stop at Surathkal for tea. – What a sight it was – a tall guy on a small Luna!
I remember applying the golden colour anti rust paint on spokes of the front and rear wheels – a practice followed by everyone there, to prevent the spokes from gathering rust.
Sold the vehicle in 1996 and got along the WB registered Vespa select all the way from WB to Manipal.
Nice time on the Luna Magnum!
Aah what a bike, still we remember the ad, "Chal Meri Luna", the babu in the ad was Raju Hirani, who became famous Munnabhai series director later.
My first hand on that machine (my uncle's) was wayback in 1991 when I was in 7th std. Infact that was the first time I rode anything other than a bycycle and it indeed a dream, I liked it a lot.
Nice job done kadam, I am sure your grandpa would be proud of you..
Abhi
I had a black Luna TFR, bought in 1989 at Jabalpur. Used mostly by my sister. Sold in 2002 as there were no spares availablle in Delhi.
Thank you guys for your inputs,
Great, Even today these mopeds are not a forgotten thing.
Its very interesting to know that every automobile built has got so much history behind it.
Guys pls check my thread on my VW Beetle restoration .
Very nice thread to read after a long time..
Great job there on the Restoration work !! Three cheers to you..
I remember riding my cousins luna which was a 35cc (i was told) which did not require a license and we used to have fun riding doubles in that and also had paid fine to cop who had told us that we are not supposed to ride doubles..... lol:
Yes Sriny, Thank you very much.
The luna referred by you was called Kinetic Mofa which was a basic luna chasis with a 35 cc engine, and yes you dont need to have a license to ride them.

Nope. this was Luna wings, i was talking about and it had a good power for a 35cc engine..
Maybe over there it was called the Luna Wings.
In INDIA it was known as MOFA
Luna....aha!! You have brought back those old memories when I was a kid and had a fascination for these things. I had been to Honnavar (North coastal Karnataka) where my uncle had a Luna. Since it was not so complex two wheeler to ride, I immediately to a liking to it. It was my first ride on a two wheeler. I even pressed my father to buy me one since it had pedals and I could use it as a cycle while my father could use it as a moped :) . He never yielded to my coaxing and I know why....I was just 10 then.
Good work dude!
i learnt to ride a bike coz of the LUNA only. it has such lovely memories and i still have scares on my legs, falling from the luna.
Mofa was 22cc (or something like that) and was by Enfield India. Luna Wings was by Kinetic and in response to that. That whole segment died pretty quickly
Thanks for the info moderator,
Great info generated thank you every one,
Moderator I think we can now close this thread.
Hey just stumbled upon this thread. I was having Luna Double Plus (brown Colour). Sold it off in 1996 for Rs.2500. But it gave good service to our family. We used it for around 10 years. You certainly have brought back my memories and what all we had done on that Luna. BTW, it i nice restoration you have done to this small bike.
