Bajaj to launch Ninja 250 and KTM Duke

Yes! Finally the Indian biking scene is getting hot. With speculations doing rounds, that Yamaha is launching the 150CC sport bike, Bajaj has some plans up its sleeves as well.

Bajaj will launch the Kawasaki Ninja 250CC and KTM Duke 690CC in 2008 through its Probiking showrooms. So 2008 will be a great year like never before for the bikers in the country cheers:.

I hope this holds true and not just another January rain. The launch of big bikes has been a matter of speculation for quiet sometime now, but i think with the launch of the prototype of the Bajaj small car(rival to tata small car) i assume Baja wants its products to appeal to the masses.I don't really see it venturing into the 'exclusive' segment be it for cars of motorcycles. But my heart says i am wrong and hoping for the best!

The 2008 Ninja 250 is a great bike for our market. We should see big sales volumes. Its an incredibly reliable bike, with an all new body that looks great to me.

I am not so sure about the Duke though. Its a good bike alright, but if I have an option between a liter class Kwakker, or the recently launched Yamahas, I would go with the japs anyday.

@ what price?? if someone can assist me with that, it would be great. P220 is for less than 1 lakh, I would really think twice if I have to pay 2 lakhs for 30 CC extra!

@Amtak, the 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250 retails at $3499 in the US of A. I would not expect it to be any less than 2.5-3 lacs OTR if it takes the CBU route. However, the prices can significantly come down if it takes the CKD route (I hope Bajaj is trying the CKD route). Even then, it should be anywhere between 1.5-2 lacs, which IMHO is a fair price for a bike of such high pedigree.

For more on the bike, you may wish to visit: http://www.buykawasaki.com/Products/Detail.aspx?id=263

Most definitely is a superior bike than the home-grown P220 (The P220 is great too, no doubt about it!) in terms of performance and various other aspects and one will have to pay a premium to lay his hands on one.

Amtak its not just question on 30 cc extra its the engine construction for what you are going to pay, its 250 inline liqued cooled twin with 6 speed gear box compared to Pulsars single cylender air cooler 5 speeder(mind it the cylender is air cooled and the radiator fitted in that bike is just to cool down the oil temperator).
Lets see when Indian market is getting matured for 250-500 CC multi cylender class bikes.

I dont want more cc, but more power. I would not mind paying more to buy a 150cc bike from Yamaha producing 22bhp then a mere 20bhp from a 220cc powerplant as in the case of Pulsar DTSFi.

Well, Ninja is lot more than 30 cc extra! But if it's through CBU route - it would be 2.5 to 3 L here. I think Ninja 250 would be the real star of Auto Expo 2008 as far as bikes are concerned!

Gotta agree. Problem with the 200's and 220cc's in india right now is they're single cylinder. This parallel twin is exactly whats been missing so far so its more than welcome now !

The duke will be expensive for a 690cc single cylinder. Unfortunately all European (but triumph) are much more expensive than Japanese motorcycles.

Whether true or not its an exciting news for me especially Ninja 250.i think if launched 1.5 -2 lakh pricing would be most suitable to make it a showbiz.

The Ninja 250 is an extremely popular bike in the US with newbie's, especially women. I know two indian girls in the US that have this bike. Sounds pretty good with an aftermarket exhaust too.
