Gadget happy

One of the constraints on long rides is the need to reserve motels just to charge all the gadgets. GPS, camera, iPod, and most importantly cell phone. If I could charge on my bike, I could sleep in a tent in the state parks, or on the road side (should be possible with a wilderness permit). These holidays I did just that. Setup for a uninterruptible long ride. A wiring harness + powerlet outlet (12V), that I can hookup to. I could hook it up to a cooler, heated vest, or a car charger for any gadget. Now I can charge my gadgets on the go. I also got a few Ram mount parts, to mount GPS, Camera, & Camcorder. Here are some pics.

Powerlet point, and Ram mount base

Ram mount

Camcorder mounted

GPS mounted

I am really excited about my next trip, I can really maximize my time on the road, as opposed to sitting in a motel waiting for these things to charge.cheers:

The bike is pretty much stock. The only mod is, that I have replaced the tail with a sleek number plate kit.
Here's a few more pics, I may have posted this before.

Its called a Tail Tidy (no idea why!).

Where did you get your charging point from? Its NEAT as it doubles up as the mounting point. I have a mount (metal - no charging point) for my camcorder, but the damn bike thumps so much at idle and low revvs that anyone watching the video will get a headache!!! Could do with a charging point for my mobile, though - esp since it also doubles up as a GPS and therefore consumes more power.

I am confused.. From his description, charging point and mounting points are different. where is the charging point? Is it the black thing in the middle with the lid?

Yes they are different. The Black 1" ball in front of the tank is the mount point. The black thing with a lid is the powerlet outlet. The wire harness connects to the battery, and is routed beneath the fairing, then by the radiator, through the fork tube, to this powerlet point. The company Powerlet Products sells kits with precut wire lengths for specific bikes. It can also be done by anyone who has reasonable electrical wiring knowledge.

Well, the VFR is a little better than other sportier bikes like the CBR when it comes to vibration. (I used to have a CBR before). That said, let me see how well I can capture videos. I would most probably use my still camera to take pics at vista points, without getting off the bike.
