Bike Drag racers arrested by police.

The drag racers were planning to hold the race on the ORR in Koramangala. These people 50 of them were planning this race. Out of 50 8 were arrested by police. All were college students. The below is the snap shot of TOI's today's edition.

Drag races were supposed to be held in the grounds. Why these kids are doing in streets? Hope none of our t-bhpians are involved in this tough.

Drag race halted, 8 youths held

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: It was 2.30 am early Sunday. These 20-something youths were riding their single-wheel bikes at breakneck speed. These racers who took to the Koramangala intermediate ring road for kicks found their roaring engines shut off too soon following a swift operation by the Ashoknagar traffic police. Fending off desperate attacks by the drag racers, the police arrested eight of them and seized eight bikes. The youths have been identified as Murali, Prithvi Reddy, Sanil, John, Nithyanand, Mukhesh, Ramesh and Manjunath.
Being weekend, traffic sleuths were checking drunken driving. “Checking was going on at major junctions till midnight. Suddenly it started raining and many officials wound up the drive. However, a motorist alerted us about the drag race being held at 2.30 am,’’ a senior police officer said.
Traffic officials then took the help of the law and order police. As the policemen approached the racers, some of them ran helter skelter and some attacked the policemen, but the resistance was shortlived. “These motorists had disturbed fellow motorists and even teased girls. Some motorcyclists plunged into the army ground, off ring road. We managed to apprehend eight of them,’’ DCP east (traffic) Seemanth Kumar Singh said.
On investigation, the police found that around 50 bikers had gathered on the ring road on invitation by an unknown person. “All the accused are in their twenties and most of them are students. We are looking for the person who is the source of the message inviting bikers,’’ an officer said. The accused were arrested and booked under Sec 179 for dangerous driving.
The police didn’t find any imported bikes on the spot. However, the seized ones were altered and the youths were riding on single wheel. The race was being conducted on different segments, including wheeling, race, zig zag riding.
MG Road used to be the hot spot for such bikers earlier. After stringent action, the bikers had shifted to city outskirts. The officials said strict vigilance will be in place on weekends to check the drag racing in the coming days.

My question too.
Article must have been written by the same group that does Times Auto.

something is really funny here. Nobody organizes something this big without planning for all eventualities. I have a feeling these clueless kids were set up.

I bet they were happily racing elsewhere when the police were rounding up these "drag racers"

A diversion, anyone ?

BTW the article is utter crap , I am still trying to figure out what they meant by single wheel bikes . There is a mention that no imported bikes were involved.

Definitely these guys were upto doing wheelies and drags and interestingly none were imported bikes as generally to my knowledge some of the imported bikes too come in quite often and the guy who is supposed to be organizing this event could not be traced and certainly these kids landed in no man's land.

looks like a setup... bring all these kids in one place, fully pumped up for an "illegal drag" ala FnF, they fool around - wheelies etc etc. in the mean time, the bikers actually drag around hebbal or some place on the other side of town. sweet.

There are many communities in Orkut, with hundreds of members (Street Racing in BANGALORE, Bangalore racers, Top Seed drivers, Illegal street racing, etc.); which play an important role in all these. There are topics like, "Drag race-This weekend" or something like that, where KIDs are discussing about racing their DAD's Gift.

It is sad.. but true!
