You can replace the glasswool alone..and its damn cheap..maybe thats why the service guys are lazy NOT to do it!

all that needs to be done is :

1. cut open the exhaust pipe.

2. replace glass wool adequately.

3. re-weld the pipe and check for any leaks, plug them if they exist.

Service guys will not do this. A friendly neighborhood mechanic will definetly do this for you.

Reason : costs more for a new exhaust pipe and less labor too.

Keep in mind that you might have to get the pipe chrome plated again as the plating will wear off after it is welded back.
