The Best 4T Oil

20W 50 in HH splendor? It should be 10W 30 for all HHs below karizma drain interval in 6K.

For Pulsars -- Valvoline 4T Premium 20W50
Karizma -- Power 1.

Yet to do some oil change other than Yamalube on the R15 and FZ.

Mine is a Feb' 2000 model. As per the owner's manual the oil to be used is Servo 20W40, which was used for the first couple of services at HHASS. Thereafter Hero Honda 4T+ oil (10W30) was launched, and since then they have been using that till the last (80k) service.

Now that the bike has crossed 85k, it is consuming some oil and I have to keep topping up every 10 days. So I thought of using a thicker oil, the thickest available being 20W50.

Don't worry, nothing will happen!

Today I bought GULF pride 4t plus 20w 40 in 1L pack. There is no confirmation of API category properly. The pack says “it exceeds the Valve Train wear requirements of API SM”. How to confirm the category is it API SL or it is SM?

Also I got the pack for Rs 195 only ( I also got the bill) whereas I paid Rs 220 for Servo 4T API SJ. Is it ok, GULF is cheaper than servo?

That means the oil meets API SM, which is the highest possible service category. And don't you bother the price. Gulf is supposedly better than Servo.

Very True. I've been using it on my P180 UG3 for some time and find it very to be very good. Engine is very smooth even at high revs (I've gone only upto 6K). Only issue is my gear switching hasn't improved. Same old click sounds on changing gears. But I've noticed if I go easy on the gears it is quite smooth but when I do it quickly, then the gear changing is not smooth - I get a distinct sound.

Open your chain cover, clean the chain, front and rear sprockets thoroughly, use some good amount of heavy duty grease on both the sprockets and also some SAE90 oil for the chain.

Your gear shifts would be as smooth as a knife through butter.

It retails at 895 INR. (MRP) However, the dealer can give it to you for 750, depends.

Could someone point me to trusted outlets in Bangalore where i could buy bike engine oil. Iam looking at brands like Motul 3000 4T plus 20w40, Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40, 20w40 Yamalube SL.

Also are there any good websites where we can buy engine oils? vicky.in does not have good reputation, it seems.

You can buy Motul and Yamalube from here. Motorcycle Components is an authorized distributor for Motul lubricants such as engine oils, coolants, brake fluids, chain lube, etc. and also is a distributor for genuine Yamaha spares. All these are available at wholesale prices. Speak with Mr. Vineet and refer my name if required.

Check out indiMotard's page on facebook. They stock Motul oils and you can source from them as well.

Regarding gulf lubricants i wrote a mail to them in 2010 and got the reply within 4 days with the address of their authorised dealer in my city.
On gulf website there is an address of their office at banglore (http://gulfoilindia.com/contact_us.html). They can tell about their dealer.

I am going to try Motul's semi-synthetic "Technosynthese" range 20W50 3100 Gold next on my Duke. Its been working beautifully on my Bullet 500.

This is a pretty good oil but after 2 refills i switched to 7100 fully synth 20W50 and the ninja is as smooth as butter. The 7100 costs 700 bucks a liter in blore. Suggest you try it out as well.

There is one grade between the two which is also fully synthetic and splits the price differential.

The 3100 Gold is 350 bucks, and this fully synthetic one is some 500-540.

The difference between this fully synthetic and yours is that it is single ester while yours is double.

Synthetics are a waste in standards at the rate they consume/burn/belch out oil. Minerals flushed out with all the crud at regular intervals is the way to go there.

And from what I am reading elsewhere on another Duke thread, the 7100 actually is getting used up as guys are finding the levels dipping sharply midway through the fill interval. Somehow not so with the 3100 Gold.
