Team-BHP - All about Shogun Modification

Here is what i did to get my shogun prepped up for the highways.
(won't mention the RX135, i spent much more time and energy and esp money on it but it never could be what the shogun could- but since i learnt everything about what to and what not to do on it, i give it the same respect).

-Bullet spokes on stock Adeep oem rims

-Stock rims with Michelin M45 2.75x18 at the front and 3.00x18 at the rear- awesome grip, great wet grip, much better lean angles even in wet and rear lock ups reduced to almost nil, even on concrete city streets.

-KB100/125 full length springs in front forks with 175ml fork oil per fork.

-The stock Gabriel rear shocks were a bit too soft for my taste and changed them for stiffer armstrong ones that complemented the faster rebounding front forks.

-Boyesen dual stage fiber reeds in the stock reed cage but polished intake for smoother intake

-Widened and polished induction port from the crank side- not touching the actual ports.

-Widened (tapered) and polished exhaust bore without touching the exhaust port, same for intakes and xfer ports

-mildly lapped head+bore

-Gypsy sealed beam in suitable dome of choice- P43T Philips/Osram 60/55W with Maruti oem wiring/holder, also almost eliminates rear bulb fusing at high rpms.

-Original KB100 rectangular solid stalk rvms- pretty steady at 100kmph.
Turn inwards for city use and one gets less than handlebar width to scrape thru traffic- turn outwards and wider to look behind one's arms/shoulders.

-Stiffer foam for seat with very thin layer of medium soft foam and contoured to prevent rash due to friction at the edge(not stepped- i shifted front and back depending upon terrain and riding style, plus a bit long legged)

-Last (i think) but not the least- TVS (ceramic coated) power-tuned exhaust for stock Shogun: instant 16bhp(claimed) with retuning for the stock shogun without any of the minor mods i did. lol:
And it was maybe 10x the scream of stock bike at 8.5K rpm and beyond.

The black beauty screaming by and all chickens flying all over the van- still the stuff of my dreams. stupid:
Would have been replaced if only i had a Vmax, a 916 or a GXS1000R.

I had a few friends who did similar things what I did to my shogun in their RX 135.But after drag racing a few time Shogun always left them far behind.

You are right my next bike is going to be a Yamaha R1.
I have a few pictures of my friends R1, Ninja CBR 1000 and Ducati. Have a look.

Well- a lot of RX guys will never admit that at stock, the RX always got outdragged by a stock shogun on open roads, especially in the higher gears.
But a lot depends on the the vehicles and their state of tune and also at times upon the rider.
Some of my friends were so ham-fisted, they couldn't outdrag others with a seemingly better bike.
I have seen a splendor outdo a shogun in moderate Mumbai traffic, that to years back- the shogun rider was kinda weird, not revving cleanly and using poor judgement to eke out a path ahead and ending up accelerating wildly but braking too often- getting pwned big time.

Nice- i hope you have enough experience to get a machine in that class- no offence- just a friendly remark.
Coz, the day my friend finally got a new 600F4 on my insistence instead of the used litre class machines as it was the first big bike he was getting(never ridden anything bigger than the commuters here), he saw a guy crash his 1000RR just after taking delivery, even before he could hit the main road- born again biker. :(
And i hope you don't compromise on any safety equipment.
That Honda F4 guy is yet to buy a good pair of riding boots- he bought stuff part by part- starting off with the Jacket+armor and helmet first.
Out there, it's always a good idea to have or join a riding group of sober, friendly riders- the track sessions are too much fun he said.

Dear Mods- I am sorry for flouting the smiley rule- i thought i was restricting myself while posting on tbhp- i am kinda notorious for my smilies elsewhere.
Even in the above, i would have gone like a smiley per line as per my expression(i actually try to show what i may look like while saying something) but i couldn't even use one smiley per quote as i can use only 2.
I could have used atleast 2 smileys just for this last para- an 'embarrassed face' for sentence 1 as i felt sorry for flouting rules, and a 'sad face' for the above sentence.
But i want to say i am sincerely sorry for breaking the rules as i hate breaking rules in any walk of life. (happy face smiley)
