Buying a yamaha RXG
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorbikes/39817-buying-yamaha-rxg.html)
hi all,
i am planning to buy a yamaha RXG.i want to know wether there are any issues with the model. my neighborhood mechanic says that the model has some problems with kick and gears and that they break or sumthing.is this true?should i go for it?
Thanks in advance.
someone please help.
At what price are you getting, go for a Rx 135 5 speed you will never regret.
RXG has a problem of too much jerking while you coast with throttle closed, it's a pain in traffic. Later models have got it rectified this when the company started making them with heavier magnet rotor. Still it wasn't really a fun to ride vehicle. The top speed wasn't too great either.
The solution is pretty simple, change the RXG bore with a later model 135's.
RXG was launched to satisfy the pollution norms. I wouldn't recommend this, go for later model 135s or older RX100s.
i am getting it for 8 grands. i wanted to go for yam rx135 5 speed but they are scare commodity which come at a price. For them all i can stretch by budget is till 15 grands.
See if you can get a used RX135 4 speeder for around 8-10k.
Converting it to 5 speeder with all Brand New parts costs around 8-9k.
So by the time you are done with it, you have a RX135 5speed with a brand new complete engine, gearbox and all this for around 16-18k in all.
Not bad for a brand new feeling. Eh? :)
i too got this RX 135 in just 8k,model 1998 with newly rebuilt engine, new chain set, front tyre.
@ scaryuskulls - agree: u r right bro.
oaky. by the way i dint know one could convert a 4 speed yam to 5 speed. What has to be changed in here?can i do it in RXG?
rascalangel, RXG is not advisable. Go for Rx135 4 speed if budget is limited or else go for 5 speed.
Pretty sure you can convert the 4sp/G/RXZ 4sp to a 5speed .
You will need to buy a 5speed bore - piston kit ~2.8K and then the gaskets and rings and some other stuff with it for another 500 rupees . Total is about 3.3K.
Just replace it with the old one and you have a close-to-5 speed version.
What you will NOT find in any spares store is a original 5speed head and carburetor . Having said that , the 4sp carb on a 5sp setup does ok-ish .
well what i meant was not in terms of performance but in terms of gearbox! Can one get the 5 speed gearbox fitted onto the 4 speed ones?

you can also get larger carb jets if i'm not mistaken... so that problem should be tackled.

i don't see why not. just make sure that you find a good mechanic to do all this work. i've seen plenty of mechanics (including company authorised) bungle up big time.
ask around - you might even be able to get a piston kit from thailand which is a bit lighter and enhances the pickup.
okay.thaks a lot guys.it really helped. search on for RX135 for sub 10k.
Dont install the 5speed barrel with 4 speed head as such.
The 4 speed head has a larger volume. Thus compression will be down. And hence power will be down.
Do you have someone who will accurately cut the head of a 4 speeder and dial in the squish too to get the compression up, then only go ahead.
dear scaryskulls what is the difference between barrel and skull?any mods required for gearbox change?
