@2StrokeJunkie- Yeah you are right, patience is what is needed.

I had got a call now from a local mechanic who told me that there is 1 in malad,so went with him to check it out in the afternoon, saw it lying in a garage, the moment i could ask something more about it, the mechanic who works there says, "yeh tooh bikh gaya hai"( its already been sold).

So i returned to my office waiting for another day and another call..,

I might go to malad to check out another RD in the evening.

True Insaneroller, lotsa specialists but honest ones are rare and parts even harder to find. Met all the specialists from all over Bangy when I had my RD. And I personally believe classic vehicles should be looked after with love and care and used occassionally so that they last longer. Anyway thats just my opinion.

Thanks Guys

Hi Guys,

First of all thanks for all the suggessions, I posted this fourm very long back and could not update after that, i apologize for that, the bike owner has shown some interst and rebuilt it, the bike is in excellent condition now with new paint and engine jobs, i think now its worth buying for 45K, but not sure if he sells it or not, but he will sell not less than for 70K now. being a good friend of his, i can see the bike almost every weekend. thats the satisfying thing for me and i am not of a show off kind of a person, i love RD for its true values. and for Pradeep and other guy asked if it was in HSR layout in Bangalore, Yes i stay in HSR layout and the bike owner also stays here.

I once again thank all for all the suggession and feedback.

re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

Hi all,
Its been really a long wait for the dream machine, meanwhile I bought a jawa 350, and a continental GT( not the Bently one ) I am happy with both and then I stumbled upon this decent looking RD 350 (1989), the owner says its HT, how ever I doubt that, as according to my readings about the legend, the HT was manufactured only till 1985, and the bike in question definitely doesn't look govt. registered.
the engine No is: 1A1511758.
Please tell me if that series belongs to the HT numbering series or not. the owner is currently asking for 1.50L, Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?-yamahard350ak_l8081707051456334912_lg.jpg

Not sure if it's HT or LT, but for the price and the condition the bike looks to be in(assuming everything is working), it does look to be a sweet deal.

Let me know if you drop the plan of buying this and If you can help me with purchasing. I have been on hunt for an RD, but the prices are beyond sky high.

Well for now the plan to go for another high maintenance mistress is shelved, how ever apart from my personal considerations, i have some genuine doubt about the credibility of the documents of the above mentioned bike. so in case you want to go for her, check if all the documents are in place, the owner seems sceptic about providing the documents even after persistent insistence .

re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

The RD 350s today are costing anywhere between 250,000 to even 400,000 in Bangalore depending on their condition.

It seems like an investment today, it might go up even higher in coming years.

Please remember you will always be proud that you are very few owners or the last owners of 2 cylinder 2 strokes ever made.

re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

It is worth buying if you are a true blue bike enthusiast and don't mind endless hours searching for spares, running pillar to post for a good mechanic and shelling out obscene amounts on the bike.
The reward is nothing but a bike so full of character with sheer music from that parallel twin that no damned 4stroke can ever dream of + hair raising sort of performance. If you have money, buy, buy, buy

re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

Its really true, that RD is worth each penny that you pay, I paid a hefty amount for the bike, and then the spares. But the fun and the rush that the RD gives you when you ride it is beyond words to describe.

I myself had been a die hard fan of an RD for years, but every year what ever amount I saved, the RD used to go beyond that, Finally 2 years back I got hold of one, and have been enjoying it since then.

Did a solo 300km run on that, and it was really fun. If you treat it well, its there to stay.

So put on your helmets n just enjoy it...

I completely agree! In fact, I am looking for a HT in good condition. Could anyone of you help me find my dream machine?
Cheers!

re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

I have owned 2 rd350 bikes , one HT and one LT. I have ridden them extensively for thousands of miles. I have been following this thread and i can share a few words of knowledge
1. 2.5 lakhs and above for a used two plus decade old bike is not a good deal. Sellers usually have endured lot of pain with it, just like myself. The rate quoted is not for the metal, bike or papers. It is not even for the performance of the bike nor its looks. It is for the time, the pain the owner has endured during his time with the bike!.
2. RD 350 is outdated in every aspect, even during its hay days, it had many flaws right from poorly designed electrics to brakes.
3. It is a 2 stroke bike, where as there were many 4 strokes with much better over all biking abilities ( esp Honda cb350 four) even during 1980's.
4. After paying so much for the bike, you will have to endure constant pain of searching for a knowledgeable mechanic, source spares and wait for many weeks to get it back on road again.
5. Its easy to say spares are available on ebay.com, but please add postage, then you will feel how expensive it is. Locally available spares are of inferior quality and it will always bother you when you take it out for a ride.
6. Look for better, newer bikes for the kind of budget you have. You will enjoy your drive with peace of mind.
7. It is mass produced bike, aged and just outclassed in every aspect. Why splurge hard cash on such bikes?
Thanks and safe riding!

What is the current Market price for a well kept RD 350 HT? Everyone’s quoting above 2.75L.

Even that I couldn't find! HTs are difficult to find. In general the couple of the advertisements that I found were >₹2.75L.

All the things that you said, although makes a lot of sense, I hate to accept. You know, this is one of those truths that you can't or don't want to digest.

You have got me thinking again... but now hoping that other fans or RD owners will contradict you and put some weight over the heart chosen choices vs mind made decisions.

this is not about mere transportation from point A to point B. The newer bikes have no character, certainly not what a RD has. The adrenaline rush that you would get cannot be substituted by any of the newer bikes. I fully respect your rational view and all points respectfully taken bro, but, to me, 4 stroke bikes are equivalent to taking a ride in an auto-rickshaw!

True to the core, my friend. The other view is rational, but yours is passionate. All those classics here happens to be restored due to such, so called, "irrational passion" of enthusiasts. If you have the means, go ahead and follow your heart. And do post the soulful music of that "twin pipes"
