Hey guys (Gurus)!

after months of persuassions at home and jhols in office for leave, i am finally ready for my mumbai - leh dream trip. But calamity has stuck even before i step a foot on the road, i just found out that my beloved RX135 cant make it even upto ahemdabad!! so cant even think of leh on it.

So the Big question is to arrange for a bike for my trip, please suggest which bike to go for, i am thikning of selling off the bike as soon as i am back, as i already have a Yam and a Kine, no point adding another bike, so please: please suggest a reliabe bike for this trip, and also whether it has to be off the showroom or a second hand is a good idea (resale price would be a question then).

i know i m sounding stupid, but all set for a dream-long-distance-bike-tour without a bike does this to the human brain!!:Frustrati

I'd suggest you to get one of these 2 bikes :

1. If you have ridden and understand the characters of bullets, nothing like them for the ride.
2. If you want to stay away from the classics, perhaps a karizma would be a good choice. Its comfy, powerful enough and is kinda sturdy too.

It's better to hire a bike which is travel ready.

Come to Delhi and hire/buy a secondhand bullet with a fixed resale value from Karol Bagh.

If i have to choose any bike for a long distance trip.

i would lay my hands on Bullet (1st choice) and Karizma(2nd choice)

No other indian bike comes closer to the comfort and cruising speed of these bikes.

reliability is of course dependent on the condition of vehicle.

So,carry some spares like extra tube, fuses, clutch cables, headlamp bulb etc etc

i would prefer the karizma in the first place for a trouble free ride

but for the experiance go for the bullet

how reliable is a second hand bullet who's history you don't know about if the first thing you do is take it to ladakh?

Go for a bullet for the real Adventure and comfy ride, and karizma for a tension free ride. i just did my Leh trip on my 77 Bullet 350 no fatigue at all

i own a karizma and i just did the himalayan odessey 2008 on a thunderbird twinspark. I would not recommend the karizma unless the bike is new. The plastics wont be able to take the beating.Although its not impossible. The simpler the mechanicals the better for such rides. A bullet in good condition makes a better choice or id say go for any of the 150 cc crop of bikes.Theyre quick, reliable, consume less fuel than a bullet or a zma.

how about something from the apache family?

I remr , that long time back when suzuki-fiero was released, a team of armymen ( around 20 of them ) went to leh in that bike. I would trust Jap bikes for their reliability.

Go for the Bullet. Its so comfortable especially for the long drives.

great idea , Leh on a bike.

I know a classmate of mine whos done biking on that side on 135cc bike

Thank you all !!

from what i see, Karizam and Bullet are the only options, but of all the horror stories people have told me about bullets, i rather stay out of it.

So karizma it is , but its 85K guys! and after a month, i'll have a Brand New Karizma, One Month used, 5000Kms(approx) done. What do you think would be the resale price for this!

HIRING - Never thought of this option!! it would be soo cool to hire a karizma for a couple of weeks. Does anyone know where can i go hire a bike in Mumbai?

I googled it up and came accross indiabikes.com and Tonybulletcentre.com , has anyone heard of them?? any good/bad experiences with these guys??

Although these are again just bullets, this is kinda weird that the only bike available for rent in mumbai is a bullet!!

Leh today is like lonavla. every tommy dicky and harry and their chachaji has done it. Any bike in decent condition will take it.

consider a fresh rebore and take your trusty.
